I have never understood why that era is called the "dark ages". Perhaps because of the dogmatic approach to heretics. But we still have that today.

Anti Catholics both intentional and unintentional, always take every opportunity to attack Catholicism, especially by referring g to the high point in Roman Catholic Culture as the “dark” ages and calling the beginning of the Protestant revolution as the “enlightenment”. The clues are all there if only you know how to piece them together.
