I don't know if it's because I watched so little drama series but i thought this drama would be rememorable for a few reasons.the main reason was that there were a total four sets of couple shown on scene. there were two main couples and then the two minor ones. for a drama series this short, the script people managed to stick them all in there and give a somewhat satisfying ending to them all. I'm impressed.

I also find that most annoying thing is that the main character's love is pop up from no where. However, Zheng Ye Cheng is SO GOOD at flirting haha. And what is touch me the most (and get my tear out!) is the acting of the rebel prince.

I think this is Zheng Yeheng's most handsome drama to date, he looks so freaking good in this drama. I gasp every time he comes on screen LOL and the set looked so good. I only decided to watch this is because Zheng Yecheng BECAUSE THAT MAN CAN ACT I just wished he will pick a good script!! LOL but the only thing I had against this drama was that it had soooooooooo many loop holes. Not enough answers and a lot of cuts... I felt like I watched a very SHORT drama that everything was just smashed up together hahaha... I would give this drama 4.5/10 for the storyline itself, but a 10/10 for Zheng Yecheng looking so good and the sugary chemistry between the two leads, hahahahahahaha....

I love Zheng YeCheng's acting and martial arts skills, but this drama is giving me diabetes! LOL... it's good that he's finally getting the attention he deserves with this drama even though he's a lot more a versatile actor than the common sugary romantic comedy. This drama is one of his weaker drama production but is now the most noticed. I prefer the Sleepless Princes and Stealth Walker over this drama, but his chemistry with the FL is pretty good. Don't expect too much from this drama except a lot of laughs, it's not meant to be a serious story but a short quick silly drama.

This is so spot on to how I felt from the positives to the negative stuff. The logic or no logic of the plot and their romance made me feel nothing for the drama at all. I haven't read the novel but it was pretty obvious that there were a lot of things that were cut out. It just felt so choppy and awkward while I was watching.

The original novel is close to 400 pages if I’m not mistaken, and it covers Liu Ling’s depression and suicide attempts. They had to delete that in order to avoid censorship and translate the rest to a 24 episodes drama (which iQiyi further cut it down to 22). Plot becomes unclear and illogical. I enjoy the drama though because it is easy to watch and everyone looks so pretty 😂

I don't think they were saying that they cut out the psychological aspects and it didn't make sense. there were 24 episodes initially but as we all know only 22 were released. most likely that transitional scenes as well as contextual scenes were edited out. that's why it felt so choppy.

You are right ab them creating so much sugar for promotion purposes,the actress her self said that for the first 2 weeks of filming they did kissing scenes almost everyday, which was very hard on her,actors also need proper love story line progress for them to grow their chemistry,I didn't hate the drama, I enjoy it, but like you said I dont think I will watch again , even though I do like to rewatch ZYC dramas, I will watch anything that ZYC in it but I wish he will get one blow up drama soon, he deserves it.

Actually, around ep. 5 our female lead showed a lot of the hem of her gown, and it looked like she had indeed been on the run through the forest. With historical dramas, I'm always amazed how they can 1. Sleep without getting a crick in their neck on those uncomfortable looking squared off pillows, and 2. with all those hair ornaments sticking into their heads. Lol.

I do enjoy watching my sassy princess but only for zyc even with lack of storyline he put his heart into it so I love his acting here, also digging his look 🔥 and I enjoy the sugar 😁 chemistry is good for me though love story happen way too fast…. plot wise is a wreck.. all the cuts and deletion was annoying. There are a few funny scene that was funny. Overall, drama is okay, like a good drama to watch during relaxing …I’m actually surprised how popular this drama is in China, seriously it really is. I’m happy for zyc though this was not his best drama but he got a lot of attention from This drama and he’s been on the hot search so Im happy for him. His fight scene is awesome… Waiting for his next drama…

Good point...yes I agree with your opinion... we give credit to zyc and yby because they worked hard to make the story line interesting.. even if there are flaws.. but it still attracts the audience to watch it... for me "my sassy princess" is a romantic love story. ..there is an element of comedy inserted...the fighting scenes are not boring to watch..they animate the given characters very well...I have repeated watching it many times until the behind-the-scenes scenes and many scenes that have been cut... if you are questioning if this drama is really good...Yes! i admit.❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉

I just finished this drama a few days ago and I totally agree with the points you’ve made. I began it with decent expectations because I like both the actors and it’s very pretty but then the weird editing with too much stuff getting cut out began. The worst thing is they would bring up something that supposedly happened and I’m like huh??? The audience didn’t see that happening lollll. I literally laughed out loud during one of the scenes where the princess’s dad was crying……

I'll just add my thumbs up vote to the sleeper Avenue X recommended, "The Killer is Also Romantic." It is a short drama series (comprised of several mini-episodes, less than four hours total) that gives a master class on how to write a concise, coherent script. It still includes exciting action, humor, intrigue and swoon-worthy romance. It makes dramas like "My Sassy Princess" seem like wasted opportunities, even with a much bigger budget and 22 episodes. My one complaint is that some of the English subtitles are not the best, but they're good enough to follow the plot. Bravo! I wish I knew how to say "Brevity is the soul of wit" in Mandarin.

Hi, I am so glad I am not the only one that wonder where was it they decided they love each other. All of a sudden they are close. I am not sure if I will continue this for all your reasons that I totally agree with you. I have been watching Chinese Dramas for about a year and a half. I have used them to totally lose myself during a total covid lock down and now the horrendous war news, I am 87 and have a disabling illness, I have come to some conclusions. There are certain scenes that have to be in romantic dramas, I say - oh here is the - staring into the eyes scene, the falling off the cliff flying scene, the giving mouth to mouth resuscitation after falling in water,or giving medicine. Love them all and the fight scenes. Probably remember others later but you probably know what I mean. But Although I love them I do give up on ones like Sassy Princess. My favourites are ones that I learn something about Chinese ancient culture like weaving or cooking.

I liked the soundtrack and the interesting relationship between the first and second male leads, who are both senior officers and brothers with very different personalities. The actress who plays their tiny, terrifying, stern mother was fun to watch. The grandfather of the second female lead's Xu family and the young men's father staging a diversion after the second lead couple's prison break was funny, especially their disingenuous "explanation" to the Crown Prince. I enjoyed those small moments the most. But the script never really explained the Crown Prince's obsession with the second female lead. Nor is the viewer given much insight about why the second male lead was so determined to protect her, even sacrificing his career and social position to do so. I think the just under one gold mine rating is fair.

I hope to see more period drama with less intentional "cute" or "sweet" scenes. Cut out the girl falling and guy catching her, cut out the girl tripping and guy spinning her in slow mo, cut out the accidental kissing etc and will immediately elevate the drama to a different level.

I quite enjoyed the drama. Not going to defend the plot because it’s terrible. I did read the book a while back so I think that helped with understanding character set up a bit more especially Liu Ling. Imo this should’ve been at least 36 episodes to fully explain things better. I really liked the color grading on this one, probably one of the best I’ve seen of a lower budget sweet drama, I couldn’t stand the white/blue color grading of sleepless princess. ZYC and YBY did a good job and their chemistry worked with me! I also really like the FL and second FL’s relationship, it was very sweet and supportive on both sides

For me this is included in the "for passing free time drama" and i also don't really feel the chemistry between the Leads but yes they're great at acting.. it's ok if any one of you want to try watch it but please have the slightest expectation of the story and maybe just enjoy the ride.. I agree entirely with your comments. I tried to watch this but finally had to skip to the end because it was so annoying, especially the FL character. I also liked Love and Redemption very much so this was very disappointing.

I am for it, loves much. Not only the diabetic sweetness but also music, costume, landscapes, comical lines, friendship, patronass. To our regret, not good enough for its length to complete the storiy satisfactory. I don't know the original book, and I don't mind it. Couple cliff jumping, kissing in water , knelt down to beg for lovers life, fly like birds to save lover, all those ridiculous are rampant in Chinese drama 〈cliche〉 I laugh through all, don't mind. This “sassy princess”made me think about their passion , merely beginning from absord pursuit end up to square marriage terms and conditions. Princess randamly found goodlooking man at work and followed him instinctly. He reluctantly let her around and came to notice her virtue and value（politically ）. At first , I thought he behaved like marriage-scammer. Anyway through their marriage contract dialogue, they grew up as credible counterpart. the course is very worth watching. As I am Chinese language student, so their exchanges(Chinese）are so excellent texture, fascinated.

I watched this drama and was only able to hang on until ep 3, lol. I HATE the female lead character Just my opinion is that her character is more likely a female villain who loves to throw herself in front of the male lead..., she doesn't care how many times he has rejected her coz she somehow has no shame. She's in love with the male lead at the first sight due to... not because of his smartness, not because of his kindness, coz she barely know nothing about him.... but is still in love because of his...... HANDSOMENESS, how low is that. She even suddenly develops an obsession with him and stalks him around..., this bugs me a lot. How sad that the line between your crush considers you a stalker or a romanticist is... your physical appearance. If you are ugly, you are a stalker, if you are good-looking then you are a romanticist. In ep 3, there's a scene where she's throwing money in a restaurant and paying 3 silver coins for every 1 type of food she purchased..., which is what I know after watching countless dramas, silver coins consider a big sum of money in that era. And she purchased a long table full of food... I can't imagine how much money she has been throwing! She's a princess, she's not even working, so..., she wasted people's money for her personal pleasure.... why on earth people with that kind of behavior is a protagonist?? I can't even finish ep 3 and give up at minute 18:18.

Oh man this drama had so much potential, great chemistry between all the actors, interesting plot with the king and the handmaid, the brothers, etc. They even had some great episodes 5-9, but the princess character absolutely destroyed it for me. She had no learning to her character which was far too selfish, hopeless, and ignorant -- all of the characters were risking their lives for her and she kept being a petulant child. I eventually just felt sorry for the ML and hoped the foreign prince would just kidnap her.

The problem is in the cutting of scenes. It lost the continuity of the plot. But overall, the work is fun and easy to watch. I like colors because they are not boring like other dramas of that style and their music. The actors also performed well. But ultimately, it depends on each person and their preferences.

He's been one of the reasons I kept watching some okay dramas (Mirror Twin Cities, Love of Thousand years, Love O2O). If anyone has any suggestions for another drama with him that's actually really good, I'll take it! Currently watching Ming Yue... it seems like he has a support role in it but don't think I've seen him yet.

Definitely check out The Sleepless Princess. The chemistry between the leads ZYC and Hu Yixuan was just so good in that one. The storyline could have been better, but the chemistry was so so sweet.

I watched the first two episodes and gave up. I like simmering emotions and any physical touch must be spontaneous after the FL and ML develop an emotional bond. This is not it.

Like you, I decided to watch this drama for the male lead. But OMG! Some of the scenes drove me batcrap crazy. That one, where he gets a gut wound from a filthy sword - and is almost to the point of death, no doubt from a massive infection - and the frackin female lead decides he needs to carry her. What the frack! Is this a Chinese romantic thing? Because I just don't get it. I see it in almost all of these dramas, and I just want to scream, "Walk, bimbo!!!!" And the instant love. I didn't buy it at all. They needed more build-up to get to that point. Watching leads go from enemies to lovers is part of the fun of a decent drama, and this one fell really, really short.

By this point I’m thinking…maybe the female lead just naturally, or for whatever reasons, has a hard time developing chemistry with male actors? I watched at least 3 dramas of hers (either completely or at least 50%) and I think she had poor/average chemistry with all of the main leads. First one was with Zhang Yixin (Lay) and omg their chemistry was so non-existent that I kept asking myself “why does he like her? why? he just doesn’t look like the type of guy who would like this type of girl!” whenever they appear on screen together. Second one was Liú Lí (Redemption of Love) and third one is this drama. Liu Li’s script has some very interesting parts, so it helped with the male/female chemistry. But I can’t help but feel that there’s something lacking in Yuan’s acting skills. Just that extra spark to make her character a bit more lively, like some other actresses such as Yang Zi and Tan Songxun - both tend to have great chemistry with their male leads too.

I think your perception is because she is shy, it is not easy for her to be uninhibited with her male protagonist colleagues. But she works hard to improve her acting skills, and it shows every time another drama comes out, regardless of the script. In "Love and Redemption" the 10 characters she made were not easy to perform. And that pays for her. 😉
