Just replaced both ball joints on 2015 Master. The driver side was left hand thread and passenger side right hand and both held in place with a lock tab.

@howardandjoanne8979 👍 good job if you got it done. I didn't know that the threads were not the same on each side!

I got confusing information that pre 2010 masters were Right handed and later masters Left handed and I found that mine had both. Confused 😊

Instead of thread locker I'd put some copper paste in there to make sure it comes out easily next time. I've never had one of those loosen itself.

Good idea because they can be a pain in the butt to take them out. Thanks for the advice. 👍

What are the symptoms of a bad ball joint ? Does the wheel shake a bit ?
@fix-and-drive-diy-repairs Жыл бұрын
It doesn'tshake, you'll hear cranking sound. It will get louder and louder. It was very hard for me to know precisely what was making the sound. So, I removed the stabilizer links and drove around. That's when I knew it's the ball joints.

Good video,but may I suggest just taking an angle grinder to the ball joint nut, just cut it clean off 😊

The chrome socket says 14mm because it is for removing spark plugs. Its a spark plug socket. They usually have a rubber bush inside to grip the top of the spark plug to help with removal once loose. It's labelled 14mm because the thread on the spark plug is 14mm wide, but the spark plug will have 21mm flats to remove it.

Good video, just a question though, how much force did it take to undo the large end of the ball joint
@fix-and-drive-diy-repairs2 жыл бұрын
Well, because I am just a diy-er, I don't have a torque wrench so I just use a long pipe to make it easier. I've done one on my citroen, check the video. I use a jack to hold it for me😂.

Hi 🇷🇺, I now know lock-thread is not needed. Hopefully other viewers will read your comment. Thanks for the advice 👍

It's better not to use thred lock, because next time you need to unscrew the ball joint, it will be a big problem

You a buy a new wishbone for £25/40 complete with ball joints and bushes. Easier to fit than a new ball joint that can cost £15
@fix-and-drive-diy-repairs Жыл бұрын
That's true mate and thanks for the advice. I will do that next time because the bushes on the wishbone are getting too old now.
@jasondryden7576 Жыл бұрын
This vehicle has the ball joints in the hubs not the arms, but yes if your car has wishbones that the ball joints attach to before you couple the wishbone/ball joint via it's location hole and nut it down, same goes for wishbone back bushes just as cheap to buy the arm instead of messing about with a press
