this conversation threw me straight back to Pat's deranged rant about Inscryption where he simply could not comprehend the concept of deck thinning and how losing one decent card made the game suddenly unplayable (in his head). Everyone, including the game itself, telling him "a smaller deck is a better deck" and it such a foreign concept to him. Like a PTSD flashback. I'm so glad he understands now it's like a weird euphoria for me.

I'll have to try it out. Midnight Suns successfuly defeated my aversion to card/deck building games and now I can see the fun. Now I need to play Balatro and Slay the Spire.

Sort of like how Dive Kick teaches you the fundamentals of fighting game footies, as woolie has put it in the past, I think Balatro does the same for deck building. As a mobile game, I've been playing it on my steam deck for the past few weeks, and it is great. Not just saying that in entertainment factor, because it is a no duh, but also in resource intensity. Played 4-5 hours straight and still have 50% battery life remaining. As an achievement hunter, this has one of the most 'not gonna get it' hard achievement I've ever seen (as of last checking still nobody has gotten it according to completion rates). Just RNG, on top of difficulty, on top of lucky enough to succeed all over again dozens of times.

I can see why Woolz thinks that two pair is somehow algorithmically more likely, I had a run that started with two burnt jokers (courtesy of an early ankh card) and had two pair juiced up to lvl 30 by ante 8 because it was so easy to draw that discarding it wasn't scary at all. Most brainless run I've ever played, barely required any deck manipulation.

31:04 I wouldn't feel bad about not making flower pot work, that joker is notoriously terrible. Even in the beta patch where the suit disable bosses can still use the card's base suit (debuffed cards count for NO SUIT with flower in the base game) it still sucks pretty bad. Even wilds can only count as one suit, it just auto-selects the suit. I think smear joker works the same. Also flies in the face of using death/removes to duplicate and trim your deck, which most high value jokers benefit from. Flower just sucks unless you're desperate and even then it often fails you.
