Things I love about these Pancrase fights, the no-time-outs (education/strategy games), the no talking from audience, I like the boxing ring with escapes, breaks to get fighters back on feet. all great ideas.

@@sursurrus yeah standing up no action on the ground is a great idea. or if you dont want that at least allow 12-6 elbows and knees on the ground.. current ufc has pretty sub-par rules, that's for sure.

It's so cool all these are up. When I was a kid, there was no knowledge of Pancrase here. So many early heroes of MMA made their bones there. It's fun watching Bas slowly evolve as he walks us through his career. It's an interesting window of time as well. I regard his generation of fighters to be really the first that came into UFC competition with complete skillsets. I dunno. Thanks for making this available.

Bas truly was a gentlemen fighter. Considerate of the crowd and his opponents. He could have ended some of these fights allot earlier if he really worked on a particular spot after he hurt them. Class act all the way. MMA is so different from this now. Even the ref let the guy rest when he was clearly on his way out. Can you imagine if this was done in a boxing match? We certainly have lost some of the sportsmanship we had back just a few years ago.

The Japanese competition and competitors are the complete opposite of the crass, loud, disrespectful, and thuggish atmosphere of American MMA, but that's not in the least bit surprising as it's just a projection of both cultures.

Out of curiosity are there any long term side effects from taking liver shots like that?
@TheJohn876510 жыл бұрын
From the small amount of research I've done, it really depends on the severity. A full-on lacerated liver can bleed you to death, but I would think kicks would *usually* cause bruising or small tears. Not good, but not the end of the world. The liver repairs itself fairly well, but you'd have scarring (and hence impaired function) in the damaged areas. Do it enough times and I guess you'd be giving an alcoholic a run for his money...

@mjay62454 жыл бұрын
They want to see the submission technique on the ground, not you sit on someone and beat the fuck out of their face until the mat is covered in blood. Its more of a gentleman's thing. No one has to get a broken knee, its really not about breaking things, just the skill involved. Breaks and injuries are an unfortunate side effect of the sport.

People just tend to prefer going headhunting for knock outs because that's what gets the best reactions..its a pretty harsh tactic, probably the most painful thing you can legally do in the ring. Not that I look down on Bas for doing it, I would too..but after the kick at 12:30 I would have asked him to just give up because I would be feeling horrible by that point.

I really don't understand this distaste for ground striking, especially their _particular_ distaste for a _striker_ using ground strikes. Isn't that exactly who should be expected to utilize ground strikes? Bizarre. Definitely one of those strange rules I would not have enjoyed when I was younger... martial arts organizations usually have a few I really don't like, and UFC is certainly no exception.

While we're all at home I would like to share a story, when I was a young juvenile I went to the big city to go to an underground nightclub already high I walked up but at the entrance there was a man . He asked if I'd like to get high with him and that sounded good to my juvenile self so like a idiot I walked down the street cause he suggested that the police might see us so the idiot juvenile I was agreed . We turned the corner which is like 50 feet away so no alarm yet for my young juvenile self . Then he doesn't stop confusing yet alarming my idiot juvenile self still followed even when he turned down a hella dark alley with no light. The alarm in my idiot juvenile brain went off but it was to late. He turned around with a needle filled with what ever he was on. Like an idiot I didn't run right away but asked what he was going to do with it , yes people I asked what are you going to do with it , a stranger in a dark alley. He then grabbed my shirt with one arm and raise the needle up to my face. Ooooooo shit is right I was so scared but in a split second I came up with the best idea I told him the only way we could use the needle is we needed cotton . His eyes changed from evil to confusion he said cotton I was like yeah man your socks are made of them. He looked confused but convinced and let go of my shirt lowering his needle arm and I started helping him lifting up his pants leg always saying cotton man it's right here. Then like lightning I ran and this dang dude chased me like a block or two screaming I'm going to get you but he never did. This is all true hope it helps you
