I'd rather see my catcher up on the balls of the feet, legs staggered ready to throw. One knee down imo is being less ready to move if theres a need to....

Loved the video, I have a question on the right knee down set up however. On a dirtball on the left side of you, how do you block it? On the right side with right knee down it is much easier because u can just slide your knee I noticed. But I am not sure how you block a left side dirtball with the right knee down. Great video

Good question. A couple of observations. The catcher’s receiving range is limited due to left knee up. A pitch inside to a righty would be a challenge and possibly get handcuffed. The catcher’s glove tends to come up when blocking. The glove must be at the ground level through the blocking process. The catcher has very nice footwork and looks balanced. Lastly, “received” is misspelled in your title secondary breaking ball.
@catchthisSK
@catchthisSK 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Are you a catching coach? Yeah, I know the "received" is spelled wrong but I didn't want to upload it again for one wrong word. I have different comments about the one knee stance and its totally up to the catcher. If he feels comfortable and able to block with each knee its up to him and his coach. Every catcher is different. Coach Lebo is teaching Shawn all that he knows for Shawn to be a complete catcher. Check out the rest of the videos on the channel and let me know what you think in the comments. Thanks again for your comment.

I’m not a coach. However I did play D1 and 6 years in the Cardinal Minor League system as a catcher. I’m intrigued how catching is evolving. I do like the drills shown in this video. Just a few small adjustments and he’s on his way.

I've seen that catchers using this will switch to left knee down for right handed batters to work up on the ball easier and to take the knee strike reference away from the umpire over their left shoulder. They'll go right knee down for left handed batters. What's your thoughts on that setup?
@catchthisSK
@catchthisSK 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, Shawn does the same thing with the different batters. Thats why Coach Lebo makes sure Shawn is able to use both knees down and be able to catch and block on both sides. I hope that helps.

Would have to agree with Ryan on this one. Never have one knee down with runners are on base. Honestly for increasing your pop time its all about muscle memory and core strength/plus quad strength and well it keeps going, from how you take the ball out of your glove to never letting your elbows drop and then there is the throw itself. Your footwork is also very important as well. Check out some of the other videos on the channel and let me know what you think in the comments. Sorry we didn't get back with you sooner. @@catchthisSK I understand, But the best catchers are quiet behind the plate allowing the pitcher to paint like Picasso. Both my sons played catcher. Go old fashioned up downs and knowing how to slide and block left and right and frame. Strong legs and knowing how to receive the ball to make a proper throw down. Or pitch out since all teams usually run on the second pitch. Giving the pitcher a target is all that is needed.
