Grab some tissues, because this one is a tear-jerker. This song is based on a true story, about a cable car accident that took the lives of 14 people. 2 of those were a couple, who lifted their son to safety in their last moments. They did not survive.
The composer and original singer, Han Hong, later adopted the orphaned child.
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Dimash Kudaibergen for the first time, performing "Daybreak” BOTH on Singer and at Bastau.

Best reaction/review/analysis of Daybreak that I've ever seen! Truly! I want to say thank you for being so thorough and complete, not only with the backstory but more specifically with giving both performances equal attention. Both performances are wonderful. You hit on everything I had noticed and seeing someone else pick up on all these nuances just is so fulfilling! I can't even begin tell you! But all of that aside, mostly I appreciate that as a vocal coach you clearly see his ability to sing and powerfully convey all that emotion to the listener. See, most vocal coaches are only focused on his technical ability. And, while technically he is astronomically great, his talent of telling a story and his unmatched ability to transfer all that emotion directly into your soul is arguably the best quality about Dimash. And when coaches neglect that quality, it is highly disappointing and practically a crime. All the technique and range in the world would only be a circus trick if not for his ability to connect his soul with yours. I am sooooo impressed that you as a vocal coach can clearly see this and value it. I think if I were to take vocal lessons, you would be the BEST person on line to take them from..... because you get it. You understand! And unfortunately that is very rare. Thank you so much for your video!!

I totally agree! Some vocal coaches are so conscious to the point that they keep pointing out all the technique that Dimash used and they forgot the emotional aspect of it or they are “ rock hard” to seem to be emotionless sometimes😅. I love and adore audiences and voice teachers who truly feel it and feel the connection from Dimash through the songs.Because at the end of the day, music is the connection. When you sing and make someone feels it and cries, you are successful!😇

I am a houseless veteran, and as silly as it sounds, Dimash has been nearly the only reason I’m still around. He makes me feel something again, and watching the years of reaction videos allows me to see what people say about him. I’m grateful for your bravery in showing me the love you have for this talent. Your analysis and passion is worth a subscription, ma’am.

I would say it's the opposite, I prefer the bastau version because as music/vocals is just simply better BUT when it comes to emotions I find way more intimate the singer version, and the health problem he was going through during that one... It's just more emotional

He had completely lost his voice that morning, received injections in his throat, another contestant gave him throat drops, he performed and promptly lost his voice again. Plus he’s singing in Mandarin. I can only watch this a few times a year. It’s so emotional. Autumn Strong is another weeper. Such an emotional reaction. I love your reactions.

Dimash was so sick during his performance on the Singer. He was worried he was not going to be able to sing this song and give it the true justice it deserves. He also was in pain while he did this amazing performance. Afterward he lost his voice again. Now the Bastau version was PERFECTION. Thanks for your wonderful reaction. 🎼🎶🎤🇺🇸🙏🏼

Mark Hansen 😊 Did you happen to notice that a few of his newfound Chinese friends gave him a “vial” of what they called “liquid gold” for healing if his throat? They told him it was an ancient Chinese remedy, and he did take a few drops of it. It wasn’t in this particular video, but if you’re interested, I have it in my Dimash Kudaibergen playlist, and I can look for it. Interesting 🤔... Dee 🍃💗🍃

The original singer, Han Hong wrote this song after adopting a son who lost his parents tragically. A cable car fell and the father held his son up high until his dying breath in hopes of the toddler surviving and he did. Sadly both parents died. Han Hong was so moved she adopted the child and later wrote this song. She also became Dimash’s godmother during the filming of this competition.

The Charismatic Voice - I love the Singer version better just for the fact he sang this when he lost his voice went to the hospital came back from there after having injections in his throat and got on stage and sang this - he then lost his voice immediately after the song finished - for this i love this version and him. you can see the concern in their faces - they knew what was going on with Dimash but the audience and judges did not. In all honesty comparisons are a disservice to the uniqueness of songs sung no song can be sung the same each time plus Dimash usually changes bits here and there in his songs every time he sings them. It keeps them fresh for the listeners. Thank you very much. I come here regularly and enjoy every moment .

I realized watching this time that he uses different registers to switch from being the boy somewhat grown up back to the time of the actual tragedy, even at the end after being taken back to the terrible happening in a cry of anguish, he follows that with a very sad but muted lower tone, representing the boy now, grown up and more sober

Look how awkwardly he gets back up from his knees in the Singer after the high part-I think he was exhausted with the effort of singing when he was sick. I think the physical pain in his throat added to the pain of the song. It doesn't have the same fireworks as the Bastau performance (those runs!!), but I can't listen to it without breaking up. I'm glad you listened to it too. I think if he had been able to perform this one at full strength during the Singer, he would have blown the competition wide open.

Not one person can perform his song exactly like he does... not yet. For now, U need 2-3 singers in coordination to sing almost every one of dimash’s songs😂😂😂 i mean,, ie: u need a male and female opera singer to cover ogni pietra. there are people who tried to cover his songs,, n they did so beautifully,, but they had to adjust some parts of the songs coz they just couldnt reach those notes or perform the sort of vocal acrobats he does. Note, the people who tried to cover his songs are professionally trained singer in their own rights,,

You watched this video from Gloria Wu from the start, from 0:00?? Cause In the beginning he went to hospital, he woke up in the morning& he lost his voice, wasn't able to sing and there they gave him medicines and some injections, and medic said(he recognized Dimash) no more high notes for a couple of days, and in the evening Dimash has this performance.......👏👏👏

Thank You Elizabeth Dear!!! 💞This was the first premiere of yours that I was able to watch and WOW what a good one. From the day I first saw Dimash singing Daybreak at Bastau, it has been one of my absolute favorite performances. I’ve seen in WAY more times (100’s?😁) than I can count and tear up every single time!!! 😭😭😭As always, I so enjoy your professional review and learning more about my favorite singer’s incredible technique. Thanks for continuing to share your unique insight into Dimash with us. 🥰🥰🥰

Elizabeth, once again, thank you so much for this amazing reaction. Watching your reactions is like watching the song from the backstage, from the front row, from inside the singer's head, and in between his vocal cords. I know enough Chinese to understand the lyrics, but I did not understand how strong this song felt. I was actually not moved by the song, or had tears in my eyes, or was emotionally involved with the song until I watched your reaction. No other reaction videos online go through the depths of music and voice like you do. With so much love, thank you.

Same here, I could not admit until I read your comment that the song wasn't moving to me. I thought maybe I did not "get it", though I have seen it several times...then this review comes along. By seeing her response it brought out the part of me that I was suppressing. Whew, I am so glad that I am not the only person in the world to be affected in this way, and it took the proper time and situation to unleash my own emotional reactions.

Oh just missed the premiere...:( work...well... Daybreak is one of my favourite songs.... It doesn’t matter how many times I listen to this it still makes me cry.... It’s just so full of emotions and I cannot help it but being swept away by it.... I remember the first time I heard it....It made me emotional right away, but didn’t understand a word or I didn’t know the backstory.... and then when I looked it up with the lyrics..... I seriously couldn’t watch it one go because I cried so hard......

That was hard to watch. I know that, even if you’re very small, images of trauma will stay with you forever. I almost didn’t want to let my heart go there, but he doesn’t give you a lot of choice. Additionally, there’s you melting and still able to fight your way through his performance, hear and feel all of it, and help us understand what he’s doing. I’m going to take a few and think about how fortunate we are to have you. You’re as rare and special as he is.. #1Fanboy

Hi Elizabeth, I LOVED both performances and I LOVED both reactions (Very Sad, Emotional and Powerful!!). It's Amazing how Dimash's voice made it through the Singer competition. But when you Believe in Yourself and Your Dreams, Anything is Possible!! And when he performed at the Bastau concert, you could hear how much he improved w/ a more mature sounding voice (and riffs)! Excellent!! Thank You Very Much, Elizabeth!!! :-)

didn't want to see you cry more watching that twice lovey, just to have Dimash appreciated singing this song so beautifully, sick, and then in full voice with all the vocal acrobatics he had probably hoped to do in the Singer had he not lost his voice. Like, I think, if he'd gotten his whistle note out in Unforgettable Day during Singer, like at Gakku, he might have taken first place in Singer. Things didn't always go his way but he was always totally amazing.
