I feel like Riddler’s breakdown at the end is the most important part of the episode. It can be easy to forget sometimes that Riddler is legitimately mentally unwell and to dismiss him as just a guy that likes riddles but seeing him have a full on meltdown at not knowing the answer to something shows us that he genuinely belongs in Arkham.

And so you reach the last of the Riddler episodes. This one I’ve always found to be the strongest of the three, mostly because I think the riddles in this one are genuinely clever. Poor Edward, so unable to help himself and thus earning a permanent residency in everyone’s favorite vacation home/looney barn, Arkham. John Glover really does a fantastic job in this one. If you really want to see more of Mr. Glover’s escapades in the DC multimedia franchise, look no further than Smallville and Shazam! to see this lifelong DC player at his best. Have a great weekend, Meg! 😊

You and Blind Wave reacted to this exact episode on the same day. This is the best Riddler episode, too. John Glover was PERFECT as Riddler, but the only one who had gotten close to matching what Glover did was Wally Wingert; he was Riddler in the Arkham games, and he sounds a *lot* like Glover's version.

This show has the best Joker and my personal favorite Riddler. He's like an evil Niles Crane from Frasier. The darkness and mature themes in this kid's show makes modern kid's shows look like kindergarten building blocks.

I'm not a professional by any means and I'm pretty sure they didn't do it on purpose HOWEVER. What Bruce did, would actually be the right thing to do to the riddler. Most version of the riddler is him having OCD and being obsessive about being smarter and riddles to prove so, the best form of therapy for people with OCD is ERP which would involve essentially making that person live with the discomfort of not giving into the obsession. So even though it was almost torture for Edward at the end, if it was done more consistently it would actually help Edward not give into obsessions and cope with his OCD better. Again anyone can correct me if It's misinformation

idk if riddler's wellbeing is what batman had in mind, that's contestable, but that is definitely how my ocd works. it's hard for me to see the fun in his little gags and motifs even though he's written as such a goofy character (in a lot of iterations) because i've always seen him as kind of tragic. shame arkham can't give him what he needs though cause at the end of the day he's just a very unwell man. i appreciate the comics where bruce empathizes with ed though and shows concern for him as much as anyone else despite his actions because it humanizes both ed and bruce for the reader.

If you like Riddler, you should totally take a look at some of his early comic book stories, they aged really well, and the story from Batman Issue 179 does a really great job at showing how his mind works, and is the first story to ask "Why doesn't the Riddler just commit crimes without leaving clues behind?" And gives a really compelling answer.

The 1960s tv Riddler was also amazing, brilliantly played by Frank Gorshin. He was more maniacal than the cartoon version, but also one of the most accurate portrayals, as many of his stories are direct adaptations of the comics.

One of the things about Riddler is he could very easily walk away from a life of crime, go completely legit, and even make a lucrative career for himself as we’ve seen in this and in previous episodes, but in order to do any of that, he would have to swallow his pride and admit that Batman is smarter than him, and he simply can’t do that.

Thats true and makes sense why Riddler barely shines nowadays. Half the time, hes portrayed as a nerdy loser who’s a nuisance rather than a real threat. Other times, he rarely uses riddles, which when actually used are more like Bad puns. Matt Reeves did a good job with him though.

This series really was just the absolute best. You totally owe it to yourself to watch Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. I consider right up there in the top five Batman movies. Then, while I'm not sure how well it would fly with KZbin, you should watch the Harley Quinn series. It's more adult, but it's very well written and really explores Harley getting out from under the shadow of the Joker.

I was always kinda 50-50 on Batman in this episode, on the one hand he was proven right in the end, but on the other hand Riddler genuinely wanted to reform, if only to stay out of Arkham, and Batman kinda just taunted him, like "come on, I know you want to do more riddle crimes, do it, do a crime." There was a much better chance of him reforming and sticking to it if Bruce went more hands-off IMO.

@nickjames8726

Watch* Harleys Holiday. All the Two-Face stuff especially. He gives Pamela a lot of credit too, with some of his attempts to save rainforests and the like. There are many instances where he tries to reason or pull for these villains. There are these instances though where he kicks back at them a bit. With Nigma, I imagine Bruce begrudgingly lets him carry on only because he knows, for the moment, Nigma’s true plan and its clues elude him. He’s letting him be while Riddler blows away his chance to live peacefully and spits in the face of the one man that can do him in but lets him choose. So he lays it all out, “you cant stop”. Riddler can prove him wrong but he decides to…kill him!! lol. And that’s when Batman keeps his secret. He COULD…never give up on Nigma and always pull for him, like Harvey Dent, but maybe there just isn’t that personal connection.
