While waiting for the NES to get modded, I decided to spend the time learning how to edit basic videos and try out making summary videos for the games I play. Ideally, I'd love to have videos like this for every game I play, although it is more time consuming, so I won't be able to upload them as frequently as the stream VODs.

Do you have any idea of when the NES will be ready?
@shmoopshybob
@shmoopshybob Жыл бұрын
@@jeremyjung8600 The modder received my system a week ago, and their website says the modding can take 2-3 weeks. However, that doesn't include the time it takes to ship back, nor does it include the time it takes for them to receive the mod, so it will probably take at least 3 more weeks.

Where did you get the color TV game, was it hard to find?
@shmoopshybob
@shmoopshybob Жыл бұрын
@@moderninc.5295 I got it on ebay. It wasn't particularly hard to find, but it wasn't cheap either. It also ships from Japan, so there's an extra cost for that too. The only one that is hard to find is Computer TV-Game, which I have unfortunately been unable to obtain.

Crazy that you are seriously trying something this huge but i have faith in you! Genuinely one of the best ideas ive ever seen on this platform, and very inspired to make my own series similar to this! Very excited to see this progress!

Recently discovered your channel and have now started watching this series. I've been fantasizing about doing pretty much exactly the same thing for a long time, so I absolutely love to see you making it a reality! Keep up the good work!

Great video. I'm not sure which pong clone we had. Might of been a grandstand. It had a light gun game. I can't emphasise enough how weird it was to be able to control something on a TV. Even if it was just squares. Good luck with your quest.

Awesome video! I recently watched all of your videos and I think they’re very entertaining to watch. Watching you beat every game in the order that they released is fun and this new review video was just as enjoyable to watch. I loved that you went over the history of the game and I think you reviewed the game fairly. Keep up the good work and I’m rooting for you! You’ll beat every Nintendo game someday! 👍

I feel like 1:53 is perfectly reasonable, actually. But while the approach you are taking has more variety and technically represents more of what is available on Nintendo systems in total, it will also take longer and include a few more stinkers along the way.

This video was amazing man 🙏 good job. I have a question about how you recorded the gameplay? I’m just curious since it’s such an old console. I also wanted to use this myself and I was wondering which tv or crt or vcr you used. Thanks in advance

To capture the video, I plugged the console into a VCR, converted the composite output of the VCR to HDMI, and ran the HDMI through a capture card. That's the general gist of it, but below I'll talk in more detail about each step. To get the console into the VCR, you'll need an RCA (female) to F-Type/Coax (male) adapter. The console I bought came with one, but I bought a smaller adapter to reduce the noise. If you get one of these, make sure the RCA port is long enough, since the first one I bought didn't actually fit. For the VCR, anything should work as long as it has the "ant in" F-Type/Coax (female) port. Most VCRs have this. I used an old General Electric VCR that my parents had lying around. The VCR will need to be set to channel 95 or 96, depending on how your console is configured. The console can be configured by taking the back off and flipping a switch. There are also some knobs here you can use to fine tune the signal back there, but hopefully your console would come with it already tuned. I then used the composite (red, yellow, and white) output and converted that signal to HDMI. To do this, I used a relatively cheap composite to HDMI converter. If you want to spend a little more, you could get something like the RetroTINK 2X-Mini to convert the signal. This will probably have less input delay than the cheaper options. You can also use the RetroTINK 5X-Pro and get it with the Composite to SCART Adapter. It's expensive, and probably overkill for just this application, but it is fantastic for converting component signals, and I'm currently using the 5X-Pro to convert my RGB modded NES to HDMI. Finally, I am using an Elgato HD60 S to capture the signal and run it to my PC. This also has an HDMI output that I plug into my monitor. If you want to play on TV, but still capture the signal, I recommend getting a composite splitter and send 1 signal to the capture card and 1 signal to the TV. You'll want to make sure this actually amplifies/duplicates the signal, otherwise you will lose a lot of picture/audio quality. At this point, you might be able to use an Elgato composite capture card and completely skip the need to convert it to HDMI, but I've never used one myself so I can't vouch for the quality. If you're JUST wanting to play and not record, you can probably plug straight from your RCA to F-Type converter into your TV. Modern TV's might even support this if they have the "ant-in" port, but I haven't tried this myself so I'm not sure how bad the lag is. I know this works with a CRTV. Another option would be to still use a VCR and plug the composite output straight to the TV.

@@shmoopshybob thank you so much man for this response. No one talks about this subject so its great to see you helping out. I’ve seen your other videos of beating every Nintendo game and I gotta say you got some balls on you. Not only is that a insane accomplishment to go for but some of the games are going to be extremely hard. I believe in u Shmoopshybob 👍

Didn’t they release a card game before they actually started making video games?😊

Yeah, that's the Hanafuda cards I mentioned at 4:45. Nintendo made quite a bit of toys before making video games too. While it would be super cool to actually play around with all of these, there's no way to actually get a hold of them, so I'm just going to be focusing on Nintendo's video games.
