Music is my 2nd Grand Passion in life…after dogs. My whole life has a soundtrack, complete songs pop into my head. A life without music and dogs…unacceptable.🎶🎶🐾🐾❤️❤️

Mr. TOM EARL PETTY hats off to you, you are so likable. Better than the beatles. Better than the stones. No ego . Just pure and simple rock n roll. PETTY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I was 10 this song came out. I told my mother Tom wrote this song for me because I was waiting on some big news. In 1985 when he wrote Rebels I told her he wrote that song for me. I was born on Sunday in Atlanta. I told her I wanted to be in his band and she said keep practicing your piano and when you graduate from college if you still want to you can. When I was a freshman in college the Wilbury's came out and mother said maybe we will both be groupies 😄. Tom's in Heaven with mother now, I like to think they are groovin! 🎸

Tom Petty and his music are so solid and consistent. It rocks, yet it's mellow too. It's Hip and it's timeless.

i was reading the comments ( not all) there are some 3 months to 12yrs. Toms music will never get old. he was a true rocknroller. but SO humble, so honest. but he Always stayed grounded and true to rock. most sell out sadly. i thought it funny. when eddie said all the girls LOVED Tom😁 cause I always have have. I'm no spring chicken lol. but when he was gone all the music by him I had never heard before blew my mind. miss you Tom so so so so much.

I love the part when he say's "Don't play that any more". funny. I saw him in concert in Indy last July. I always liked them but after that I realized how much. It makes us wish we could go back in time and have known them.
@cherixbiggs58195 жыл бұрын
This clip just cracks me up when Tom says it went on for weeks, with the first chords, some lyrics came finally, and people banging on the wall saying "don't play that anymore" -- LOLOL! Seems rather appropriate -- "Waiting" for the song to come together was certainly worth it! He had the most incredible smile! Missing you, Tom.

The beauty and secret of great music lies within the lyrics. Dylan, Petty, Young, Jagger, Nelson, and a bunch of others really cant sing that well but damn the strong lyrics, the tight band and the craftmanship are what make these artists great!

I love how he built the song piece by piece and came to through sheer repetition, waiting for the right idea to introduce itself. So often with these wonderful songs you assume they came in a bolt of inspiration, but it shows how much of the creative process is about stubborn persistence. Super inspiring.

Well, like the man said, the waiting is the hardest part :) It takes a while, with some songs, to get them over the line. Very occasionally you can be lucky and it comes out almost in a stream.

I agree, what a way to open a song: "well, don't it feel like heaven right now/don't it feel like something from a dream. " God, what a songwriter, what a man he was! So missed.

true that. just growing up from mid 70's to the 90's, really, all his stuff is in your life, even if you don't like him! I'm just coming around again to re-discovering his music after hearing refugee for who knows how many times on the radio. but like eddie vedder says, you remember the feeling in your gut when you hear each of these songs, especially like The Waiting, this one has taken on a whole new meaning for me now as I'm in my early 30's. I can't stop listening to it, it's beautiful!

I remember around 1979(give or take) I bought an 8 track of Your Gonna Get It after I head Joe Anthony "The Godfather of Rock and Roll" in San Antonio play "I need to Know" on 99.5 KISS FM. My 1st wife said "I never heard of Tom Petty". I use to request Joe and Lou to play it all the time back then. Met the drummer a few years ago at sycamore cove, he was a guest speaker for C.A. Peace Out Tom.
