My husband and I have been married for 22 yrs. I have made a point to be his helper. We both are in our early 40s now. My husband is a disabled veteran and I am now his caregiver to help with his appts and discussion with the many doctors. Happiness isn't guaranteed. Life can be numb at times but my love for him, how our life has been, our 8 children, and my duty to the Lord has kept me going. Not many know our struggle but that's ok. My attitude can certainly be better that's for sure.

I agree- also, notice what he tends to say thank you for, and start doing those things more. Especially, as working wives, we need to ensure we're doing the things he'll notice and be appreciative of if we're short for time. I also try and do things before he gets home, also.

I think the marriage series would be awesome. Not enough real Christian and bible content out there. I have felt conviction in areas where I could be better while watching your videos. My husband won't sit down and do this sadly. He just angrily says "I don't know". So I definitely need to go in prayer for a while before I try talking to him again. My husband wants to be rich.. make his. Company huge and rich, and I want to be very humble and a homesteaders living off the land. Any tips for that? Lol

Well to begin I will just say that I am no expert and am very young myself, so don’t take anything I say too seriously. ❤️ I imagine maybe he doesn’t know how exactly to go about making tons of money, and maybe when he is asked, it maybe reminds him of that and causes him to feel frustrated or threatened? I have no clue, that’s just what I would assume. I think your thought to pray a lot about it is probably the best option, as well as maybe simply illustrating through your own lifestyle, that you don’t need lots of money to be content and happy in life. So I guess my only tips would be to pray, your example, and then maybe wait until a completely non stressful time when he is in a good mood, to perhaps ask again. Or maybe you should start by just saying something like, “hey, if I could do anything that would help you at all today, or elevate some stress, let me know.” I have no clue if that is at all helpful, but I hope it is. ❤️❤️

One thing I found my husband loves to do is laundry 😅 and no breakfast in the morning I would always make breakfast and he would eat but he is not a breakfast person But he wouldn’t say anything

I have a question in my mind. But why think the things he do for help me in the house like a bonus. If both live in the same house, both make the “same” mess.

Great question. For the same reason he doesn’t “expect” me to help him at our remodel. He just thanks and appreciates it when I do. I will reap the rewards of it as much as he when it is done, but since we somewhat divide and have our own “domains” we tend to, (his being income and the remodeling,) (mine being the home and child rearing,) we both appreciate when the other steps into our domain to help, but do not demand or expect it. That is why I view what he does here at home as a bonus, and he views how I help at the remodel as a plus as well. Hope that makes sense💕

Sarah, I am really enjoying your videos and your insight and wisdom into marriage. But I just can't get past the inequality in the division of labour in your home! Surely, the hours when you are both home together e.g. evenings or weekends, the housework and childcare etc should be split evenly? If his job finishes when he clocks off and he gets to come home to rest and has zero expectation upon him to contribute to the housework why is your job 24/7, neverending?

Great question, and I love that you asked it. First, I don’t view our marriage as a 50 / 50, but rather as a 100 / 100 % effort from both of us. Danny does his very best and works his very hardest and I do the same. While I know some guys are couch potatoes when they get home, (and I would hate that,) my husband is not in the least. If I am doing dishes he will often take the kids outside, or get them ready for bed and such. But I do not ever want to just expect this of him, or take it for granted. I want to appreciate it and view it as a bonus, just as he appreciates if I make any money on the side, but never expects or requires it of me. When it comes to being his helper with long term goals, (our house remodeling adventures for example,) it is easy to work with him and support or help him in it because it’s something we both want. It’s not as though he is out building a career or a dream life separate from mine, but rather it is a team effort where we are both building what we both dream of together in whatever ways we can each best contribute to the process. Anyway, I know that’s a lot. Hope it clears things up. ❤️
