I hardly comment on videos anymore but this needs to be said: Crash Thompson is one of the most important creators on KZbin for me right now. Not only does he continually release quality reviews and not only has he been responsible for helping me find the bands that have meant the most to me... His vulnerability, his sincerity, his ability to go deep in a way that reaches those like me, who are smack dab in the middle of addressing leagues of trauma and shadows...all while having videos with an average view of under 30k. Crash's dedication and commitment to his fans CANNOT be ignored. This is man is an absolute treasure on this site and I can say with absolutely honesty that my life and my mental health would be significantly less understood, validated, and supported by incredible music if it weren't for him. Crash, you have a fan for life. No ands, ifs, or butts about it. If you ever doubt the work youre doing, I hope you find this comment and realize just how big an impact you have made on at least one fans life...but I am sure I'm not the only one.

I am beyond happy to see backxwash on the list - I confess, I had tons of stress in my own day to day life, and her album was the perfect dark place I needed to go to when I was feeling just tired of everything and needed someone to scream at the world for me as I lie there with my brain all fried. And on a trivial, more personal level, going off of her twitter, she seems to have the same sense of humour that I do, so that's a nice bonus!

I thought one of the most interesting albums of the year was Metallica's the Blacklist. Like 60 covers of Metallica's Black Album by tons of artists. I mean 12 covers of Nothing Else Matters alone, from names like Chris Stapleton, Miley Cyrus, Darius Rucker, Phoebe Bridgers. Simply hearing the variety of different styles covering the same songs made for a really interesting listen. Chevelle, Dead Sara, Foo Fighters, Turnstile, CHVRCHES, Volbeat, all had albums I enjoyed this year as well. Looking forward to see what else Korn and Muse have in store for 2022 after hearing the couple singles released so far.

It's a mad mad world out there. We're all here for you and support you whenever you decide to post videos. I will recommend, if you haven't heard them yet, an amazing ska band out of Philly called Catbite. They released their second full length in 2021 called Nice One and it's a really refreshing take on the genre. It's a blend of classic organ-driven two tone, third wave and punk. It made my top three EOY list. Take care of yourself man.

I know I said this on your Worst of 2021 video, but again. You should never feel like you need to hear every album that releases during the year. To me, it doesn't matter when you upload because I'd rather see you ENJOY what you're doing every few months or once/twice a year, rather than see you slowly fall out of love with one of your favorite things in the world. (Sidenote: It's awesome to hear that you quit your old job and started going to therapy!) Point is, thanks for doing what you do Crash. 2021 may not have been as dire as a year for me personally as it was for you, but I still felt like I was slogging through the year at points just trying to get by. I wasn't always in the best place mental health-wise and would sometimes get worried that my inner thoughts will prevent me from enjoying music I love. So hearing you talk about what you've been through in 2021 was really comforting to hear. You may not upload all the time but on the rare chance you do, it's always worth the wait. Long ramble over. Here's my list: 20. Raccoon Tour - The Dentonweaver 19. Rivers of Nihil - The Work 18. Trivium - In the Court of the Dragon 17. Adeem the Artist - Cast Iron Pansexual 16. White Moth Black Butterfly - The Cost of Dreaming 15. Gojira - Fortitude 14. Deadtide - The Rabbit Hole 13. Spiritbox - Eternal Blue 12. At the Gates - The Nightmare of Being 11. Whitechapel - Kin 10. Backxwash - I LIE HERE BURIED WITH MY RINGS AND MY DRESSES 9. Every Time I Die - Radical 8. CHVRCHES - Screen Violence 7. black midi - Calvacade 6. Holding Absence - The Greatest Mistake of My Life 5. Zao - The Crimson Corridor 4. Ice Nine Kills - Welcome to Horrorwood: The Silver Scream 2 3. Between the Buried and Me - Colors 2 2. Converge & Chelsea Wolfe - Bloodmoon: I 1. ERRA - ERRA Honorable Mentions: Circa Survive - A Dream About Love Obscura - A Valediction Times of Grace - Songs of Loss and Seperation Billie Eilish - Happier Then Ever Chevelle - NIRATIAS Humanity's Last Breath - Välde Lorna Shore - ...And I Return to Nothingness

2021 was an interesting year for me. Some ups and some downs. Experienced my first real burnout and I’ve had people along the way help, but I’m in therapy due to my burn out and I’m in a better headspace now. Besides my gf, family and friends, music helped a lot. In no order, here were my favorite albums of 2022: Silk Sonic - “An Evening With Silk Sonic” Ice Nine Kills - “Silver Scream 2 - Welcome to Horrorwood” Badflower - “This is How The World Ends” Lil Nas X - “Montero” Foo Fighters - “Medicine At Midnight” The Pretty Reckless - “Death By Rock n Roll” Willie Nelson - “That’s Life” Lainey Wilson - “Sayin What I’m Thinkin” Giveon - “When it’s all said and Done” Dropkick Murphys - “Turn Up That Dial” (this is biased cause they were my favorite concert I saw in 2021) Spiritbox - “Eternal Blue” Ashniko - “Demidevil” Jetty Bones - “Push Back” Limp Bizkit - “Still Sucks” Kennyhoopla - “Survivor’s Guilt: The Mixtape” (c’mon Travis Barker, put your support behind him cause he’s making great pop punk) Olivia Rodrigo - “Sour” Rise Against - “Nowhere Generation” Ayron Jones - “Child of the State” Little Sims - “Sometimes I Might be an Introvert” Shang Chi OST Tyler the Creator - “Call Me If You Get Lost” Mammoth WVH - S/T

2021 was like "Manos: the Hands of Fate" - long, tedious, and hopelessly broken in almost every way. For pretty much all of the past year, I've been stuck in a near-perpetual panic attack. I felt nothing listening to Mastodon, but I quite liked Gojira and Btbam. I wonder have you checked Erra, Volumes, Archspire, Vildhjarta, and my personal aoty that virtually everyone slept on, A Place to Breath by Syncatto. I will talk a bit on Syncatto since I feel very strongly about it, this is an instrumental album but it's like edm album in the sense that it doesn't need lyrics to be enjoyed to the fullest. It's a prog metal/prog rock/flamenco (yes flamenco) with gorgeous violin work on virtually every track. I think this album quite a be pretty refreshing for you to check out in particular, but even if you don't, it's all good. Glad to see Humanity's Last Breath on there man, heck yeah! ❤

Anime used to be my favorite thing ever but once the pandemic started and I had a lot of free time in my hands I think I burned myself out on shows to watch that I just couldn’t finish a single one plus my mental health at the time was declining and watching anime wasn’t really a thing I wanted to do at that moment. That opening monologue in the beginning pretty much described my mindset for most of 2021. About 90% of what I heard, whether I liked it or not, had absolutely no staying power due to the amount of emotional burnout I've been experiencing. Plus, the sheer volume of music frankly was too much to handle. There were a few albums that I managed to dig throughout the whole year, but most of it was dust on the spoiled ground.

Feel you Crash. For some reason this and last year I've had the same/similar problem with music, both listening and writing, and it felt unbearably hollow just to muddle through the day without this core aspect of identity, even if some other things were okay. Reminds me of Bojack in an odd way, with the opening sequence showcasing this uneasy, nasty detachment that can appear and just refuse to leave. At least it felt that way to me. Recently started to feel better about it and got some of that love back - I genuinely hope you connect to the extent you want to and that 2022 treats you right overall.

For me a lot of my 2021 discography was stuff that was released in 2020 that I was really starting to get into in summer of 2020 and really, REALLY grew on me in 2021. Will wood and the Tapeworms. Winter, endless space between you and I. Dan Mason, I'm not going anywhere. I can remember taking out the trash after my 12 hour shift at my old job at 6 am and almost having a breakdown listening to Burn from I'm not going anywhere. That and 2021 was probably my record store peak. I found out about so much interesting obscure music that also began to grow on me as time went on. I also really started to like Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark around this time. Been consistently having Souvenir and She's Leaving on repeat for quite some time now.

It's cool Crash, you hit a wall & had burn out. Just breathe, and take down time. Remember you need to listen to music for you, not for your channel, or your viewers.

Love your content, the irony that this video I woke up from a dream where my friends and family died and woke up thinking it's class time but was 1am

In 2020 I had a very similar feeling, I relied on music during... Those times but none of it was the music of that year. Barring code oranges underneath and a NEW streets album nothing else really did too much for me? Spanish love songs, dua, rtj 4... Eh. I felt very eh to the whole year. The culture and your personal experiences around music can be as important as the sounds on record. You have every right to feel how you did. Sending love crash!!

Glad to see you're trying to better your mental health by really talking it out with a therapist, dude. I hope you can find inner peace in 2022. When you are ready to check out music again (no rush), I suggest you try Spellling's new record, ESPECIALLY if you liked the grand orchestral arrangements of SIMBI.

The best post punk album this year is by Squid and I selfishly wish it was getting more attention than black country new road, even though I think they're good as well.

Wow crash said no more scores just a few weeks after.mark also said n numbered scores I like this so much Cause if you can't tell by the word the critic said that they think it's good or bad then you aren't paying attention

Yeah... You weren't the only one in a weird place this year. Music for me was just as easily all over the place. I think the whole music industry was upended.

Heres an album that should be on anyones list for the year but probably not a lot of heard of: Pom Poko's Cheater. Its something like a norwegian zoomer version of Deerhoof but with some seriously brainwormish pop sensibility. I had to actually ban in from my playlists because it just got stuck in my brain too hard. Seriously cheerful but kinda brain-touched stuff.

I doubt you’ll even see this but I couldn’t resist leaving a comment. I’m a BTS fan (an ARMY) but I don’t engage in any of the…more divisive charting tactics. I also don’t really understand any of that enough to have much of an opinion on it all. But like, their music really is good and I’d suggest looking into their Korean music more if you want. I enjoy their English songs from the last year or so, they’re bouncy and cheerful and I can actually sing along with them xD, but their Korean stuff is definitely more interesting. :)

Top metal music of 2021. Senjutsu: iron maiden Hellraiser 30th anniversary: Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy Kilmister. There wasn't a ton of good metal this year. I was hoping for Judas Priest this year but didn't get that. Please recommend some good metal from this year if you want

You know, it's a decent little shoegaze record. It might be up your alley if that's your thing.

@@CrashThompson listening. It is a gorgeous shoegaze album, definitely my cup of tea. Thanks for the accidental recommendation! I feel like when I first listened to Alcest’s Shelter. The shoegazy side of the band is IMO better than the metal side and it shows - or I enjoy it much more.
