@@CollardValleyCooks - I did some research. This is from the Renwood Mills website: "Formula L Our Formula L Biscuit Mix makes baking biscuits easy. Just add buttermilk and you’ll be serving your family homemade biscuits in less than 15 minutes. Our magical blend of Southern Biscuit® flour, leavening, and shortening flakes allows you to make biscuits like Grandma’s, but in a fraction of the time." So I'm guessing L stand for leavening.

I’m a California girl, back in the 60’s I learned to make biscuits and gravy from my mother in law. She was from Little Rock Arkansas, born and bred. She broke them just as you did. My father in law was from Tyler Texas, and he INSISTED the bottoms HAD to be up. Brought back memories of them. Still west coast, haven’t made them in years, but thank you for the memories. Going to buy the biscuit mix, Amazon has it. Maybe I’ll even indulge in the calories and make some gravy. Probably not, but will put some jam on them. Loved them to death till they left us. Love to Hazel and Bob. ❤️

Hudson Cream Flour was also a favorite biscuit flour. Our Kentucky roux went further closer to gumbo dark before adding a mix of Carnation milk and water. Still my favorite! Soft, fluffy biscuits! Funny, a like cantlope with breakfast and any time my momma, now my sisters and I, made our Dutch oven full of Kentucky Half Runner green beans. Ohhh yummy! That is my comfort zone😄.

I watched the entire video and do not know what to think. When I was a kid, I didn't like any kind of gravy. But I don't remember any days without gravy. Unless we didn't have a meal. Bologna gravy and rice was the most frequent gravy. I tried to like gravy from restaurants as I got to be a teenager, but it made me gag. Had to be in bowl on side. Then I met my husband, who loved gravy. And he couldn't talk me into eating gravy thru dozens of recipes he knew. Fell into what I like by accident at a restaurant with a kind chef. Most people put too much salt in the gravy. Chef made a special gravy for me. And my husband reluctantly cut down almost all salt from his gravies. My favorite I can make (since my husband passed) is sausage gravy with Jimmy Dean sausage. I can make others but then don't eat more than half a teaspoon myself. I don't know why your video just reminded me of many meals I had trying to scrape gravy off my food. Removing from rice didn't work so well. I had to eat the food as it was served, no disliking food allowed in my family.

Tammy, first I’m so happy you made this gravy! My mom used to make it for my dad. I loved it! I tried making it years ago for my family. It tasted horrible! My husband and sons tried so hard to eat it. They didn’t want to hurt my feelings! I threw it out and we went and had Sonics. I didn’t cook the flour enough. I’m going to try making it myself. If it turns out good, I will surprise my husband. Thank you for that! Second, I think it is amazing that you read and leave comments to your KZbin fans! Not very many people do that after they get to a certain amount of subscribers. I love watching you and your husband!

My Mom always made her gravy with country sausage or hamburger. It was always a dinner meal. But when I got older, I learned that this was a typical for a southern breakfast, love it with some sunny side up eggs. Up here in the NW we don’t see it much on a menu, but we finally got a local cafe that makes a good biscuit and gravy. Think I’ll have to pick up some country sausage at the butcher.

Hi Tammy, so can a Northerner make a better "bisquick" mix and store it? I make it the long way, using all purpose flour, baking powder, pinch of baking soda and salt, shortening/lard/ or butter and buttermilk. Never really gave it much thought, because I think of my Grandmother Hazel every time I make them, That was the first thing she taught me to make. I had to learn NOT to overwork that dough :-O.

Lisa I have a few tips that may help you. For added flavor you can start by frying up Tennessee Pride Sage sausage using the fat grease from the sausage you can add your flour and cook it and then add your milk. I just leave the sausage in the skillet and add the flour then add the milk once the flour has cooked through. I watched Trisha Yearwood on the Food Network and she said that her mama always taught her when you make gravy it's the ratio of four four two and she said once you get that down you can't go wrong. She said it's 4 tablespoons of fat whether that be bacon grease sausage grease or shortening or whatever you choose to use and then 4 tablespoons of flour and 2 cups of milk. So she said it was equal amounts of fat to flour and then two cups of milk. If you want to double the recipe and make a lot of gravy of course you would have eight tablespoons of Grease fat 8 tablespoons of flour and 4 cups of milk. Sometimes I use 2 cups of evaporated milk or sometimes I'll mix it and use one cup of the evaporative milk and one cup of half and half or one cup of half-and-half and one cup of heavy whipping cream it makes it extremely rich and velvety smooth and then of course I have my salt and pepper. For me the taste of gravy taste better if you have cooked sausage in it, it gives it a wonderful flavor and if you don't have no sausage use bacon grease that works just as good. I hope these little tips helped you in some small way.
