I am a 64 yr old woman and have increased my bone density in my spine by 12% and my hips 4.6% . I take my supplements individually. I took vitamin k2 m7, D3, Boron, Magnesium glycinate. Stopped eating bread and sugar. I use monk fruit and stevia. My doctor was really surprised. They were pushing the drugs. I had gone into osteoporosis. I now take creatine monohydrate to help my muscles and energy.

I had to see a heart specialist who charged $250. for office visit. What did I receive ? 10 minutes of her time? & let’s change your med. 😖 That’s when I realized there’s nothing special about a specialist & getting well is for people with $$$$. So I am researching & becoming my own specialist, trial & error, pretty much that’s what most doctors do with patients. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thankful for the doctors that share their knowledge on YT to help us.

I don’t know what kind of Doctor you are or where you are but do you see real patients? If so No matter where you are located I would give anything if I could get an appointment with you. I feel desperate. I ham 76 but have always felt younger mentally anyway LOL. MY L1 is fractured, L2-L4 have collapsed and can’t remember the problem with L5-S1. My husband d was very very sick and I had to do everything alone for a couple of months and during that period my son was in a Head on car collision so I had him to take care of and I did too much because that is when everything happened. That was in April. I know all this information is great BITNI REALLY NEED A ONE-ON-ONE with someone like you. All my Doctors do nothing but tell me to take Bisophosphonates. Which I really don’t want to do BUT AM TERRIFIED FOR MY SPINE TO COLLAPSE. My whole life has changed. I am always in pain. D3/K2 is recommended. K2 helps put the calcium into the bones. This was discovered a few years ago so studies were done. Without the K2 calcium was going into the soft tissues. Now D3/K2 is being told to use by many Drs. Higher doses fro a couple of weeks then taper down as needed.

You are a breath of fresh air. My doctor wants me on 1500 calcium. And when he realized I was not on any prescriptions, he planned to fix that. So I have not been back. But I will have to do something. 3.9 spine and I was first diagnosed in my 40s (more than 20 years ago). My sister is on Prolia...did no research. Just did as her doctor told her. I never thought my problem was caused by a lack of calcium so i don`t know why taking that to excess now will help me. I have seen those vegan and alkaline recommendations and they did not ring true to me either.

You always do a great job of presenting whatever the topic and we love listening all the way to the very end of the videos ( and then, sometimes watch them again! Being one of many people who have a difficult problem of trying to swallow pills, please consider making the product you create in regular size & also a lot smaller size. i have ordered mini size pills in the past & they are just rounder instead of an inch long & still impossible to swallow. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would be willing to take 3 or 4 pills rather than 1 large one. Older people especially need the smaller pills so they don’t choke. DR. DOUG. 3-28-2024. I feel like I am spinning my wheels…..with you…..on getting solid info. First, I struggle because your videos are so long and detailed, that frankly, I am worn completely OUT going from one to another, to another. Second. Hearing BASICALLY the same things repeatedly….plus getting soooo worn out is THE reason I don’t sign up for that one hour class. The seemingly long winded information is wearing me down. I am SO sorry to say this. Third. So I STILL have my doggone basic bottom line questions. A. You say do not take calcium. Then, you say TO take calcium. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 B. You NEVER have mentioned specific Labs for a recently diagnosed Osteoporosis patient…..to request. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 I will be 80 soon. I have OTHER HORRIBLE diseases, so am constantly trying to stay apprised of THOSE, as well. I love you since you seem to be a natural or transplanted Southern boy, but honey, you are driving me into an early grave.❤️

@@Dr_DougLucas Thank you for the video referral, BUT, for my elderly mind, it simply went completely OVER my head. All that is continually whirling thru MY mind is, “ You are soon to be 80. Because of your AGE , do NOT take calcium. Period/the end. PLUS, get your calcium levels checked,and IF they are too high, then follow Dr. Berg’s advice on getting it LOWERED. “ So, this is where I stand. And as usual, your information…..for ME…..is just too overwhelming and I can’t comprehend what you are trying to teach us. Part of MY problem is A.D.D. , I realize.

More often than not we had to supplement with Magnesium phosphate and calcium chloride intravenously. Thank you for the explanation about vitamins, particularly vitamin E which I hadn't considered before as a bone health supplement. I don't mind taking a couple more pills of vitamin A and E if necessary. I have reduced my intake of calcium supplements to 500mg daily, based on monitoring my diet and realizing I was getting at least half what I needed through my food. I went to the product site. It has this disclaimer: "Caution: Individuals taking more than 50 mcg (2,000 IU) of Vitamin D per day should have their vitamin D levels monitored. This product is not intended for long term use and should be used under the supervision of your doctor." The product has 125 mcg of vitamin D, which is 5,000 IU. That seems like a lot. And if it's not intended for long-term use, I can't see it as being helpful for a long-term regimen, which is what we need if we're striving to improve and maintain bone health.

What level do you like Vitamin D at? I've maintained mine at 75 or so for 10 years, but still developed osteoporosis. This dose seems high for ongoing. I've had to back off of 5000 IU from time to time. Isn't there data so support a multivitamin in health? I was thinking of good multivitamin, K2, Calcium/mag, D separate combo do to manage separately amounts? Wondering about a natural source like cod liver oil for A? Still confused on K2 since fro what I've read the only substantial data supporting lower fracture rates is with MK4 Japan/high dose studies. We don't have enough data with MK7? If that's true why not go with the long time tested MK4 Japan 45 mg dose?
@Dr_DougLucas
@Dr_DougLucas Жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't like that dose because it's a monster dose! Also, I try to use supplementation to mimic natural consumption not supraphysiologic. There is data to support the impact MK7 has on osteocalcin and subsequently on bone. I wouldn't expect to see a large trial on MK-7 due to the lack of funding. The rest of recommended supplements we use biomarkers to determine. If you haven't come to our masterclass it may help to clear things up for you!

@Dr_DougLucas
@Dr_DougLucas Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Great questions. I’ve heard the theory that K2 and D3 shouldn’t be taken together but I look at natural foods and the nutrients that are often paired together. They do need to be taken with a fat source but not necessarily oil.

Thumbs up on this video, I really enjoyed the explanation of esp K2. I eat natto and the way to make it more palatable is to mix it with Japanese rice or any rice that is short and round. Mix natto into rice well and then cut up salted seaweed and sprinkle on top of the rice natto mix. It's delicious. I would like to ask - why is vitamin K2 MK7 pill more expensive on its own vs when it's combined in a D3+K2 MK7 combo pill? I noticed this in most brands and it's always the standalone K2 that is more expensive. I take D3+K2 (125mg) and the price is reasonable but when I see another K2 (125mg) pill without the D3, the price is double or triple of the combo that I eat. Hope you could give some insight on this. Thank you so much.

Question: When you spoke about avoiding “vitamin K” if on Coumadin, you did not specify whether it should also be k2 that is avoided. Obviously, k1 should be, and I know that it is said that k2 should also be avoided but I’m wondering if this is truly necessary or overly cautious, since k2 does not really function as a clotting factor like k1 does. Just wondering why you did not specify any difference.

What about the third of the population that is hypersensitive to vitamin K2? Can they get enough from diet? I’ve been reading about people who took K2 supplements and had symptoms of sleeplessness and anxiety. I have that reaction with many supplements on the market, and so haven’t tried K2. I asked my doctor about it, and she hadn’t even heard of the role that K2 plays in bone health (as I suspect many doctors haven’t).

We don't measure it. I'm not sure it's a valuable biomarker to measure.

Ok, i agree to a point. I have osteoporosis and its ALL through my family. I had colon cancer surgery this past August. I would not be able to have a bowel movement if I ate meat and cheese. NOW THAT I AVOID MEAT AND CHEESE I GO TO THE BATHROOM EVERY DAY. THESE THINGS STAY IN THE GUT AREA. Why does America take more Exlax and stool softeners than any other country in the world??

Thanks for the video! I looked at the supplement and it says vitamin A = retinyl palmitate and mixed carotenoids, why mixed carotenoids? Vitamin E appears to be in tocopherol, acetate and mixed tocopherols; no tocotrienols? Wouldn’t it say tocotrienols? Too vague for me. Vitamin D3 and K2 as MK7 look good.

Thanks for posting. I would also wonder about the vitamin E with no tocotrienols. I am taking one already with tocotrienols from Jarrow...not easy to find a good brand. I took a bad fall backwards ten days ago and broke my wrist. I am 71 and if I had not already been on this aproximate protocol for a few years I would have required surgery.

Agree. I'd like to see tocotrienols in there as well. I actually take a second vitamin E from Life Extension called Gamma E for more of it. The mixed carotenoids are designed to provide a variety of plant based vitamin A. Not my preference either since I don't think they provide any value over retinol.
