I have been a tractor trailer mechanic in Alberta’s oil field for 10+ years and every fleet ive ever worked for has run Duratrac’s year round. They are proven in the harshest conditions cold, or muddy or both.

Obviously you are not using them in the harshest conditions, or you would have experienced the well documented sidewall failure that thousands of others have. I have a set on my daily driver jeep , and they are a decent tire , but I would never put them on my trail jeep or work truck as I've seen first hand how easily the sidewalls fail off road.

@@bdd1469 yeah so im talking about long highway drives, ice roads, deep snow, mud to the doors getting dragged into sites by a dozer. I had never heard of the sidewall failure until i started watching overlanding videos. I think its an overall pretty rare failure considering how many millions of duratracs are sold. Maybe its not the best rock crawling tire. This video is about winter use and in my experience the tire does great in the winter.

@@bdd1469 Over the past 40 years I've had plenty of goodyear car tires suffer sidewall failure so I dont buy Goodyears. However I'm on my second vehicle that had Duratracs on them when purchased. Only Goodyear tires that I've ever been impressed with. Great on road manners year round and work off road pretty decent. Then again Im not part of the air down /sway bar disconnect crowd that have to do the ritual to tackle obstacles that my grandma could pull off in a stock Rav4.

My buddy has a lifted suburban with firce attitude Mt tires 35 inch. He was having issues going up a hill. I went around him and kept on going. The falkan wildpeaks at3w are amazing. I went with Yokohama Geolandar a/t g015 and so far I wasn't disappointed. They hold decently on snow, drive me through shallow mud without really slipping much, hold well on wet surface and perform decently on dry road. Only noticeable loss of grip I got so far was on icy road and even there they alternated from lost grip to full grip in an easy to control manner. Considering their low price, not bad.

I have to say, I have a set of Kanati trail hogs in 37s on my ram and they are the best snow and ice tire I have ever used. I have pushed though 4 feet deep of snow with them and pulled out other stuck rigs on solid ice with ease. They are extremely quiet especially for a 37. They are fairly soft and are wearing fast on my truck, but I am also 7000lbs diesel making 1200lbs torque. They may wear fast but they are half the cost of their competitors, you can buy two sets.

I'm in rural Quebec Canada, snowy icy Winter condition about 5 months out of the year. I run falcon wildpeak at3 and I also have snow tires. Falcons aren't bad in deep snow actually I have a big hill to climb on my driveway and I always make it even with a few feet of snow. On ice you can't beat a snow tire though. I can get away with running the falcons year round but I really have to watch my speed and unsalted roads are super dangerous without a dedicated snow tire. Id say if you don't get too much snow and ice all terrain tires are excellent however if you live and play in the snow it's important to swap for proper snow tires.

Long time dyed in the wool BFG ko2 guy here until I sold my Rubicon and bought a ZR2 two years ago. The factory installed Duratracs on the Zed are an amazing tire. I live Texas and spend a lot of time in Colorado year round pulling a small travel trailer fly fishing and exploring. I see all the seasons , weather and lots of miles on/ off road and the Duratracs have yet to disappoint. Excellent video here on tires guys, something else to consider with tires is weight, unsprung weight, and for me thats an issue since I'm pulling a trailer and loaded up with gear. Ive noticed that the Duratracs are some of the lightest tires. The factory installed tires on the ZR2 are 30" tires that come in around 44lbs per tire, I'm getting ready to replace them and move up to the 255/75r17 which is a 32" tire and 2lbs lighter at 42lbs per tire compared to 52-67lbs per tire in a similar sized tire from the other manufacturers listed in the video. Big weight difference that affects unsprung weight, wear and tear on brakes, suspension and decreased fuel mileage. May not be an issue for some but for me it is, especially at the current fuel prices.

I run Duratracs and have 55k miles on them in mixed terrain to include pretty brutal lava rock wheeling and lots of snow. Tires are still nowhere close to being worn out and have served me well…as they age they’re just now starting to make a little more highway noise and lose a little fuel efficiency but by a small margin and still nothing bothersome. I’ll definitely be buying a new set to replace my first set in ten to fifteen thousand miles

Duratacs running for that long wtf you mount them on a Civic?! I've seen first hand them burn off in less than 20k on a 3/4 Denali 6.6 taken care of every 3k atleast. So from what I have seen, mind you I really like the tire, the soft compound has no chance of lasting under anything heavier than say a half ton....jeep or little gutless Taco then that'd make a lot more sense

I’ve had Toyo open country AT3’s on a 2006 ranger. Great on road performance, went very well in snow that was a foot deep. Im currently running the Mickey Thompson Baja boss ATs and those behave very similar to the Toyo’s. I would say the Mickey Thompsons are a little more noisy on road ( still quiet generally speaking) and outperform the toyos in deep snow and mud.

I've run Goodyear duratracs on a Toyota Tacoma, 1993 Range Rover classic, 1996 K2500 Suburban, 2006 Silverado 2500HD, and a 2016 Silverado 2500HD. I've driven them across western Canada and on the winter ice roads of the NWT. Great all around tires summer and winter on and off road. However, for really good winter performance I do like to run them studded and after a couple of winters I'll pull the studs and run them as summer tires while getting a new set of studded Duratracs to for the winter.

Been running Duratracs for the past 80 000km here in Canadian Rockies year round and they've never failed me. Good traction in snow and on the ice. I am just buying new tires for this winter, been looking around, thought about the K02s or maybe some other cheaper options, but gonna buy again the Duratracs as they've proven themselves over the 4 years I used the one set on my 1500 Silverado. Also I worked on the pipeline in BC and pretty much every company vehicle truck or van was running the Duratracs, so that also says something about them.

Just got a set of the Baja Boss A/T this past Wednesday so no chance to try them in dirt, snow, or trails. From driving around town they have been very quiet on my Ford F250 diesel without any rumbling or roaring. Bumps felt very controlled and comfortable. We did get a thunderous downpour last night that came down in buckets. We drove home at less than highway speed as it was hard to see. The road at times had ponding to test the tires in very wet conditions. They were very secure. Without interlocking tread blocks, water was ablwntonflish out quickly so I didn't feel any lifting of the truck. The truck cut through standing water as long as we drive at a reasonable speed. Good feedback so far.

I currently run the Falken Wildpeak ATW3 in 275/70/18 on my 2019 Tundra. 3rd season on them now and I can say they wear excellent, don't cup and are quiet and I like the extra deep tread depth for helping prevent rock punctures, but the wet pavement traction, snow of any depth and ice traction is certainly less than the Duratrac's I used to run. The price on them is much lower than the Duratrac's coupled with a deeper tread depth is why I went with them. With that said I will be going back to the Duratrac's. The Duratrac's I had did wear great and were quiet, but had to pay a little more attention on cupping (rotate more often). I wish the Duratrac had the same tread depth as the Wildpeak. This truck is used everywhere from pavement to gravel roads, off-road and our mountain terrain. The BFG you mentioned doesn't seem to be the tire of the past as a friend with an identical Tundra had them wear out prematurely and I have heard this often with other vehicles.

I used to run the first generation KO2s on my Bronco up in Alaska. I always aired them down for winter driving. It stayed cold enough there that overheating the carcass due to deformation wasn't really an issue. I think the Bronco's stock recommended pressures were like 32 front/30 rear. For comparison, my old Jeep Cherokee had Michelin X-Ice and studded Sumitomo Ice Edge tires and my wife has Blizzaks. I'd rank them as 1st - studded sumitomo, 2nd - blizzak, 3rd - X-ice. I put studded General Grabber ATXs on my new ZR2 and I'm a bit disappointed, especially with braking. I also run Duratracs for late spring and early fall in the snow and they might be almost just as good. Depends on what you do and where you drive, but none of these can compete with true winter tire. For complaints about Duratrac sidewalls failing, it may be people are buying C rated tires when they require E or F rated tires. Most blogs mention Duratracs are Great or Junk. Many that claim Junk Duratracs are heavy duty pickups in "real-work" environments. I think tread depth (16/32nds not 12/32nds)) is extremely important for great snow and mud traction.

To everyone in the comments talking about how a specific tire has bad wet traction, that is typically caused by you having a tire that is a higher load rating than what you need, my brother's last f150 has nitto ridgegrapplers that were 10 ply tires and it had no traction in the wet, the last f150 I had with 6 ply ridgegrapplers had much better traction in the wet. While some tires will be better than others in the wet the load range and the tread life matter more.

wear is mostly dependent on the type of driving and maintenance the tire is subject to. How's the suspension in terms of wear? Alignment? are they easy or harsh in day-to-day driving? I was curious to learn what you had to say regarding dedicated winter tires. Back in 2008 I started looking at replacement tires for my Jeep Liberty. A forest ranger suggested the General Grabber series. They have proven to be most capable summer and winter. They have the snowflake on the sidewall so I no longer switch tires with the seasons. For less than $150 per tire I can find them in several stores now. Tire rack currently lists them for $138. I normally get 48,000 plus miles on that tire, sometimes 52,000 before they are down to the wear bars. To be fair, I'm certain tires made for winter ONLY will have better traction on ice than my Grabbers. Unless we are expecting horrid ice storms my Grabbers will suffice. I still have one pair of Winter force on wheels in the shed in case we get a nasty freezing rain in March.
