a lot of business, at least in the midwest, that used to repair macs have closed down in recent years because they are unable to get instructions on how to fix newly released macs, nor are they able to buy repair or replacement parts. You essentially have to take apart of a fully functioning mac just to see how it works and guess how to fix a broken one without any official guide and what to do.

Anyone who says this has literally never tried repairing either. I’ve frankensteined together several perfectly functional macbooks that our incompetent IT department wasn’t able to fix themselves, they’re easy to get into, internals are neatly laid out, all accessible from the bottom and simple to replace. I’m pretty sure Apple even used to sell kits to replace the DVD drive with a hard drive back when those were a thing. Meanwhile, I’ve had 4 windows laptops, 2 of them ThinkPads and they’re a nightmare to work with, there’s fucking no way to remove the plastic case without breaking the clasps holding it together and once you get in, there’s still components hidden away behind other layers of plastic or metal sheets so unless all you want is RAM access you basically have to pick apart the entire thing and keep track of the countless screws of different lengths and be careful not to yank out any of the countless exposed cables sticking out everywhere. Sorry, but this is just not a valid complaint.

Abdega They solder parts to the motherboard when it makes sense for them to make a better computer, it’s not like they’re scheming for ways to fuck over their users every time they plan a new product. Take the SSDs for example, it’s not like they take a standard replacable SSD and solder it in place. Instead they use flash chips in raid 0 closely integrated on a chip with a custom SSD controller to reach insane speeds up to 3GB/s read and over 2.5GB/s write. That’s much faster than pretty much any other laptop on the market, and losing the ability to replace the SSD was a tradeoff that was needed to be made to reach that.

The problem with Apple products isn't even that they're not reliable, it's that they're overpriced and underpowered. You can always get a PC that's more powerful or more convenient for way less money. Also, Macs still use a different file format for their HDD, the "Power PC processor" is not relevant here.

I’ve had two Macbooks in my life, my first one constantly crashed and eventually died, taking the hard drive with it. But my second Macbook worked flawlessly and never had any issues. So it just seems like a total luck of the draw with these things. Also the Macbook charging cables are garbage! They basically just fall apart after a few months, it’s ridiculous.

I don’t know what Jeff was smoking but here’s the bottom line when it comes to Macs, or at least Mac laptops I had a MacBook Pro for a year that I got for Christmas, I used it to mess around with GarageBand and play video games via bootcamp (I forget the model but I know it was the most recent one that didn’t use USB C to charge). Whenever I turned it on, within 1 minute the fans would audibly start kicking into overdrive, regardless of whether I was running MacOS or Windows. Within one minute of that, the keyboard would get SO FUCKING HOT that it would LITERALLY BURN my fingers if they rested on a key for too long. I took it to my dad (who is a huge Mac nerd) and he opened it up and said everything looked perfectly fine and then gave it back to me. He checked with his Mac buddies to make sure and they said it looked just fine to them too What the fuck I heard it’s even worse for MacBook Airs, all in the name of that “sleek appearance” I guess Anyways, got a used acer one now for like $600, no burns, it actually runs things, and I got lucky and snagged one with an extra 1 TB hard drive on it so yeah

I have a story near identical to Zach's. My friend bought a Mac but I used it primarily. It costs $1700. I only used it for 3 things, League of Legends, KZbin and Logic pro x. The total amount of time it was used was less than a year, about 10 months. It crashed and I lost all of my music. I'm sorry but that's inexcusable. Fuck Mac. It lost all my work.

I feel for Zach. I bought a macbook for $700 fucking dollars, I used it for Isaac and Adobe animate, lasted 1 year and the battery ducking fried. I have a budget PC, and have used it for the past 7 years, finally upgrading it 1 year ago to make it a proper gaming pc. I have 3 terabytes and never once has it crashed or froze, even when having tons of applications and Adobe stuff open at once.

I have a Mac ox pro and the Skype thing is a REAL issue, you have to wait a while then open Skype to avoid that, you should probably open things 1 at a time or the Skype slow typing will happen, and you just need to drag and drop instead of cut and paste

I owned an apple laptop that I paid 2000 dollars for because my college had full apple integration. A few years later I bought a 1300 dollar pc. I can safely and whole heartedly say that Windows is 1,000,000x better than Apple. Not only does it run like a shitty windows computer, but with the whole forced obsolescence thing that Apple does, it really shows that Apple hates their customers. And on top of all that, they are against letting their customers fixing their products themselves, I have seen videos of dudes being forced to pay hundreds if not thousands to repair something at an Apple store that could have been fixed by some dude at a small business computer shop for 20 bucks. I know PC vs MAC is a shit-flinging contest, but the argument of "Why are all of these PC manufacturers going out of business then?" is redundant. The point of PCs is that there is no brand attached to *all* PCs. You get the components you want and you combine them however you want to suit your needs and budget. The reason PC manufacturers don't always get big is because pre-built PCs are a scam most of the time. PC is not a brand, MAC is. Literally a non-argument. Plus, as far as I know, branded gaming PCs are doing alright. Aren't Alienware, Razer and other such companies at least somewhat popular? MACs are for people who just want to give more money so they don't have to think about components and specs and shit. Kinda like consoles, but consoles at least bait you in with exclusives.

I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO FUCKING HATED MAC COMPUTERS they're the absolute worst. All of our school funding went into these pieces of shit, they're so slow, they're sticky, and they don't even work. Now we can't have decent desks and chairs.
