My mum always says 'never celebrate your birthday, its 1 year closer to the grave'. Allah save us all from the punishment of the grave.
@oliviabanks888 Жыл бұрын
Tell your mom that being a year closer to your grave is worth celebrating as well. If you are a believer, you ought to rejoice and be glad that you’re a year closer to meeting your creator( or Allah) As Christians we don’t hold any grip on staying in this world, Jesus said He’s going to his Father’s house, where he’d create rooms for us in His Father’s mansion. So, heaven is our home and a year closer to our grave is a year closer to meeting Our God and His begotten son Jesus. Muslims should stop with the hypocrisy of “where was it written in the Quran that Mohammed celebrated birthdays” I can list about 50 things Mohammed didn’t do that Muslims now practice. If Mohammed was alive, He’d definitely forbid social media (Twitter Facebook KZbin google are all founded by Christians) Mohammed did use cars, Karl Benz ( a Christian) created the first automobile that Muslims now use. Mohammed didn’t use computer, Charles Babbage (a Christian) invented computer that Muslims now use. We can go on and on, truth is not everything existed in Mohammed of Jesus’s time. We were given brains and holy books so we can use them to make a decision between right and wrong. It’s ridiculous to say because something didn’t exist about thousands of years ago means that it’s haram now that they exist. Religion should be separated from culture, it’s one of my problems with Islam, it seeks to take away other peoples culture and identity, and replace it with Arab’s culture and traditions. People should be allowed to differentiate between Arab’s culture and traditions, and Islam’s culture and traditions. Being a Muslim shouldn’t make me an Arab

There is one thing I want to add. Your birthday, calculated with the lunar calendar, which is the wright timespan, is different every year. Just like Ramadan shifts, your real birthday also does in the gregorian calendar. It means you are all older then what is mentioned on your passports since an Islamic year is around 11 days shorter then the gregorian calendar you age quicker then you think. A person who thinks he is 33 is actual in the sight of Quran around 34 🙂 I never heard anyone speak about it. Since I am just a layman I am amazed how Allah helped me to pounder over this overlooked and little mentioned detail in the ummah of Muhammad, salallahu alaihi wassalaam. La ilaha ilallah. Allah’s peace and blessings be upon all messengers and prophets of Allah the(Only) king of king’s. 😅

Thank you! Allahumma bareek! This is what I've been thinking too tbh. Why would the whole world start using the Gregorian/Julian calendar? Even for people's birthdays? A country's Independence Day? First and foremost, the calendar IS of Greco-Roman origins right? So why would THAT calendar be the worldwide standard? I think we already knew WHAT made it so...

@På Luffen not partner, but servant and messenger of God (AlLah). He even told his family that each individual will be answerable for what they did on earth including him and that even he couldn’t save them or even himself for that matter, the ultimate reality is God. But amongst all creation he (Messenger Muhammad SAW) has the highest rank.
@ahmadalhashmi89403 жыл бұрын
@På Luffen Please quote the shahada first cause we may be thinking of different things. Cause where did you get that from "I bare witness that there is no god but Allah (this alone contradicts your entire statement), and that Muhammad is the messenger of god". Are you really implying that being a prophet even remotely equates to God? If you don't then your point seems moot, and I've never seen a Christian or jew ever make this point before as it just doesn't make sense. It's strange to make your point the shahada when it's the most clear-cut point in which the oneness of God is mentioned.

Asalam alaikum we rahmatullah we barakatu dear Brother. Thank you very much, for your in-depth research and arguments. - As a convert and father of five minors (7 to 17 years of age) I still have the questions on how to change the established customs of family and social context in appropriate way, so that, instead of discouraging or frightening my children off, encourage to a better perspective. A mere cutting of the old won't do. Any further inspiration will be apreaciated.
@ahmedmaaz43903 жыл бұрын
I don't have a good answer to your question. Small children will feel left out if their peers celebrate and they don't. They will think Islam is a kill joy. Even worse, their peers will congratulate and throw them a party out of courtesy. I know this happens in offices where they don't plan to derail us from Islam but they assume we would want that so they arrange for a cake. I don't know how I will ward them off.
@Hamza-GH-Hofmann3 жыл бұрын
@@ahmedmaaz4390 That is a good answer, dear brother. "Islam is not a kill joy" - for kids it shouldn't be. For adults, I expect a more sophisticated attitude. Like, when we go out, amongst the comrades of voluntary fire-brigade (for example) I would neither eat pig nor drink alcohol, so that my comrades do not feel "unwell". That is a different context. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It helped, to reflect more.

@@sound_knowledge0 you can tell them this story , and i also recommend to read about Omar bin Abdulaziz . Here's the story : The little boy came running to his mother crying with a request. “Jarir and Mughiz have both got new clothes for Eid. Can I have some new clothes as well?” The mother picked him up and wiped his tears. Their mother, Fatima bint Abdul Malik(RA), was no ordinary woman. Her father, grandfather and each of her four brothers were at one time or another Caliph and leader of the Muslim Ummah. In fact, her own husband was the present Caliph, Umar ibn Abdul Aziz(RA) - who ruled the world’s largest empire that stretched from the Atlantic to the Indian oceans. She promised him that she would check with his father to see if he could have new clothes for Eid. When Umar ibn Abdul Aziz returned home, his wife related her sons request to him. The Caliph had a pained look in his eyes. “Fatima, you know how much I value my children, but all the money I have is in front of you”, he said motioning towards the sparsely furnished hut. Though a Caliph, Umar took care to live honestly and did much to ensure justice. Fatima agreed with her husband, but she said that maybe it would be possible to buy very cheap clothes for him and he would just be happy with something new to wear. The tears have left satins on his cheeks. Finally, the Caliph, saddened by the plight, agreed and wrote a letter to his treasurer requesting that his pay be advanced a month early so that he could buy his child something to wear on Eid. But the honest and pious Caliph had an equally honest treasurer who wrote a letter in reply to the Caliph. The Caliph read the letter with tears flowing from his eyes: “Amir Ul-Mumineen, I have great respect for you and I trust and obey you completely. However, if you could guarantee to me that you will live through the next month and do your service to the people (which will entitle you to your pay) then the money can be advanced to you. If you cannot give the assurance of your life, then how can the treasury pay you and why are you taking the rights of the poor, orphans and widows onto your shoulders?” Caliph Umar ibn Abdul Aziz realised his mistake. Fatima bint Abdul Malik, washed the old clothes. The day of Eid arrived and the whole area of Damascus was buzzing with joy and celebration with people clad in their new attires. Caliph Umar ibn Abdul Aziz also set out for the Eid Prayer holding the hand of his son, both father and son wearing their clean old clothing. The young boy’s face shone brightly, as he walked alongside his father, convinced that the eternal pleasure and comforts of Jannah (Paradise) are by far superior to the comforts of this temporary world.

Hadith on Celebrating with Gratitude: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasized gratitude and encouraged the remembrance of Allah on significant days and events. For example, when asked about fasting on Mondays, he said, “That is the day on which I was born and the day on which I received revelation” (Sahih Muslim 1162). This highlights that remembering significant life events, including one's birth, is meaningful if linked to gratitude and devotion to Allah. This hadith suggests that commemorating significant days with an intention of gratitude is acceptable, provided it doesn’t lead to extravagance or activities against Islamic teachings.

When i told people abt the origin of birthdays...they defend the celebration with the practice of maulid - birthday of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
@matthewbergsma76472 жыл бұрын
Spot on. Muslims should know and understand that by the calendar you follow that your birthday is never on the same day year by year. If you were born on the 21st day of the first month of the year, you know that it moves every year to a different day in the solar cycle. God has done this for a reason that way we do not pay homage to a Sun God or the Catholic Church (Gregorian calendar made by the Pope) instead of to God. Myself as a Christian I keep the calendar as outlined in the Bible although it is a little different than yours right now. I keep it by understanding that when the sun was created on the 4th day of creation that was the equinox, and then we are to start the year 4 days before this, when the moon was either created or reflected light when God said "let there be light". Anyone who reads the creation account from the Bible should quite clearly see the moon was not created on the 4th day as the sun and stars were. It does not fit the criteria for being out only during the day or only during the night. Thus by following this calendar God made it for all mankind and not just for the Jews but made it in the beginning for Adam. The start of each year will always fall between March 2nd and March 30 consistently on a calendar today, but never on the same day and hence why the denomination that I belong to (Seventh Day Adventists) also are told we are not to celebrate birthdays or worldly holidays as well. I am going through the Qur'an myself now (only chapter 9 so far) and see and understand why now in Surah 9:36-37 it says not to transpose or postpone the one particular month so they can go to war. That that is your 12th month where as a Christian following the Biblical year every 3 years or so we add an extra moon cycle to the 12th month. The Jews I believe call it Adar II. The Qur'an is super exciting and I am shocked at how it matches the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy in so many ways! Praise God that He gives light to everyone in the world and may that light shine brighter and brighter even in ways many do not expect. Keep preaching!

It shud also be mentioned.....that the prophet muhammad used to fast every Mondays ...the day he was born... to show his gratitude to Allah subhanahu wataala.....rather celebrating birthdays with cakes n candles.... Muslims should fast n cook good food n feed the poor n needy and share it with your family n friends ....sharing food is a very good deed in islam ....just making neeyah of pleasing Allah subhanahu wataala is needed in all our aamaals ......when people have hard time leaving bad habits ...replace them with good habits...thats in my humble opinion as a Muslim only ...allahu wa raooluhu aalam....

You’re looking at birthdays wrong. Youre not celebrating trhe day of birthday per se. You’re celebrating that the child did not die. This is historical as many cultures dealt with high infant mortality rates especially within the first year.

I have a question. I heard from one source that the holy prophet pbuh used to celebrate his own birthday by fasting every Monday as he was born on a Monday? Also, I know of at least one non-Islamic country where the practice of celebrating birthdays in the Muslim community has been "modified" somewhat where the family would celebrate by getting together and reciting Quran and doing some form of thikr. Has the practice of celebrating birthdays not become a cultural practice in Western countries and not a religious/pagan practice so much? So another question would be is the ritual of blowing candles the problem? Or is it the whole ideology of birthday celebrations which is seen as the prohibited in Islam? And are there different views amongst scholars? Also in Islam, can something which was seen as a pagan practice in the past, be modified and changed to something which is beautiful and acceptable? Respectfully asking so no cursing please :-)

The Prophet saws made an act of worship in honor of the day on which he was born this has nothing to do with yearly birthdays brother it's just the day of the week he was born on he wanted to make it a day of 3ibadah adoration
@armag-don3 жыл бұрын
The basic law of ibadah (ritual) is forbidden, until there is an order (by Allah through Quran or Rasulullah Peace be Upon Him) to carry it out. The basis is from what Allah has said in Quran surah Al Maidah ayah 3 : "... Today I have perfected your faith for you, completed My favour upon you, and chosen Islam as your way. But whoever is compelled by extreme hunger-not intending to sin-then surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful". This is the last revelation given to Rasulullah Peace be Upon Him before he died. Other point I want to highlight first before answering the question is, if we talk about ibadah, several question we should consider is, did Rasulullah command or do it? Second one is, how did Rasulullah do it? We can't do fajr prayer with 5 rakaat, since Rasulullah do it 2 rakaat. If we do it 5 rakaat out of passion (we think it will give more reward), it means we accuse Rasulullah Peace be Upon Him hiding some part of Islam or Al Quran is lying since Al Maidah verse 3 tell us that everything is already perfect in Islam, not more, not less From the above verse and little opening, we can answer the question one by one 1. Yes Rasulullah teach us to respect Monday since it is the day when Rasulullah Peace be Upon Him was born and it is the day where the he was given the revelation. (see Sahih Muslim Book 6 Number 2603, 2605, 2606) But how we respect that? By fasting, weekly, not annually. Not more, not less, don't change the rule. So it is different in concept with how birthday is celebrated in paganism (annually) 2. We should cautious, if we start to celebrate birthday, even with different ways (in Islamic ways), we might start to hope for reward from Allah, and step by step we might consider it as an islamic ritual (ibadah) where we don't want to miss it (such as celebrate Rasulullah birthday annualy on one exact date). And it is prohibited in Islam, don't create new ibadah. Even if there is two argument, one side allow it, and the other side forbid it, Rasulullah already command us in Book of Shahih Bukhari Number 2051 or Muslim 1599 to leave something that is doubtful The Prophet Peace be Upon Him said "Both legal and illegal things are obvious, and in between them are (suspicious) doubtful matters. So whoever forsakes those doubtful things lest he may commit a sin, will definitely avoid what is clearly illegal; and whoever indulges in these (suspicious) doubtful things bravely, is likely to commit what is clearly illegal. Sins are Allah's Hima (i.e. private pasture) and whoever pastures (his sheep) near it, is likely to get in it at any moment." (This is the example of Shahih Al Bukhari no 2051) So please just leave the annual birthday celebration since the least it has regarding the law is doubtful (syubhat). It is not a sin to not do it either. We don't want to fall into sin. There are still so many ibadah we can do and I believe we still have not done. 3. Bringing the last verse I mentioned, it is clear that Islam is already perfect, so don't mix and add a new kind of ritual into Islam. Let's keep the purity of Islam, brother. If Rasulullah did it, then we accept it, and do it like how Rasulullah do it. If Rasulullah didn't, for the sake of safety then we should not do it, leave it. Different thing with muamalah, in muamalah everything is halal (allowed) unless there is a prohibition about it. I hope it answer your question. I am sorry if it is not clear.
