Being an experienced MPC user myself this was actually surprisingly educational! Which is really telling for the MPC platform: There are so ridiculous many ways in its workflow to achieve the exact same result that even as a veteran you're always learning something. It also gives you the feeling that you have never truly mastered the MPC. Case in point here, TIL that you can actually use the bank buttons to change the octave.

I got mine a couple of weeks back. The new version is so different I feel ive wasted my time learning th old one. Certain elements when it comes to sampling the hardware instruments I own in relations to working are a real pain in the ass. I REALLY hoping the new MPC v3 makes recording my midi > hardware synth > audio workflow more enjoyable.
@andybeard32135 ай бұрын
@MrCshmn I push all my gear into my mixer, then the mixer goes stereo into the MPC on the old firmware, and it works well.
@Fauxleroid5 ай бұрын
@@andybeard3213 Not what I was meaning. Eg recording a synth with a reverb tail using the looper doesn't work because it cuts the tail off. the workflow of sampling it using the one audio track, then triggering a 4 bar one shot sample to trigger it gets really messy. when you actually accidentally trigger it eg if maybe you tried putting these samples on drum pads can get into a really noisy mess. Looks like the new version has multiple audio tracks so you can just place audio tracks in a (what MPC calls) a sequence and it will just loop properly. Hard to tell right now as even though they have made a massive noise about the new (much improved looking it seems, unless you are an old MPC purist) software its not actually available. I can't be bothered learning MPC 2 now because I find the workflow to record audio and QUICKLY have it play properly in my arrangement (and sound the same way it was when triggered by midi) to be a pain in the ass. I mean there must be a better flow than THIS.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqi6nZyooL9jjpo

I bought an MPC One Plus about a month and a half ago, and I absolutely love it. As a synth nerd it's kinda awesome to have a non-computer core to the whole setup. Coming from an iPad centric creative workflow, the MPC was really quick to learn aside from the programs and all that nonsense. Love to see that they're abandoning all that in MPC 3 and going with just straight up tracks.

Im sort of surprised as a synth guy, when you got to the end of the video, and the ADSR menu popped up for the sample page on the drum program you didnt immediately say, "hold my beer!" 😅 Theres so much more to this device that you don't need to use everything at once for example just focusing on it as a midi sequencer, or using it solely as a drum machine, or a sample editor and each element you use is so indepth it is its own machine in its own right. Its what I failed to understand when I got my first MPC and I'm so glad I stuck to it.
@BoBeats5 ай бұрын
Yeah i think its the sheer amount of things going on at once that overwhelm
@StuartMawdsley5 ай бұрын
@BoBeats Oh for sure! I could not agree more. It's a damn shame the way it doesn't have an immediacy you get with other devices. It's really sad to admit, but for the first 6-8 months, I just stared at it and did nothing substantial because of how overwhelming it all was. I think the best advice for any beginner is hooking it up to the computer as this was the only way, which helped me to navigate and learn the device (navigating the structure of the menus is the biggest hurdle) and seeing it all laid out on a bigger screen made much more sense. The UI on the computer is beginner friendly. Now, however, I am hoping MPC 3 software will alleviate that nature. So cheers! Can't wait to see a follow-up.
@stevekirkby65704 ай бұрын
@@StuartMawdsley Shame on ya! LOL. I unpacked mine and wrote and recorded an album - it took a year, but I learnt the MPC as I went along. Every new thing I learnt was an answer to get the result I wanted. I usually do that with any new complex gear. I just use it to feck and back until it makes sense. I think the v 3.0 is going to be epic - but just another layer ontop of the 2.x - so the more comfortable you are with what's behind the main scree should translate to v3.0. IMHO.
@ac3v3da5 ай бұрын
Selected Ambient Works Volume: Bo. I too approached the MPC One with more of a synth mindset. I found it is great as a brain too. You should sequence some of your modular gear with it if you haven't yet. That interface was brutal to learn at first and I haven't updated mine yet. Looks like it is only getting better.
@stevekirkby65704 ай бұрын
As a lifelong musician I picked up my first MPC at the ripe old age of 64. Nice - once you get your head around the workflow. I do NOT make hip-hop :) Ambient and space rock. LOL. Looking forward to v3.0 software. Found very few limitations with the MPC... and with an arranger and disk streaming all desires will be fulfilled :) Enjoy it and literally think outside the box... I record guitarand bass into it, use it with modular and a modwave keyboard, plus it's fully loaded with a lifetime of samples and the plugins. Joy.

@stevekirkby65704 ай бұрын
@@BoBeats Thanks :) I have the keys 61, so my abysmal keyboard skills can be input easy! Saying that, if I was to do it again I'd get the big box and a Fantom or something similar, so I had full size and better keybed. It is not just for beats (and for that it is massively expensive, but cool) - but it's just the best standalone sequencer on the planet. IMHO. I used Protools and Cubase in a professional work capacity for years and so needed to move away from the computer :) It ticks all the boxes for sure.
@simonlees28485 ай бұрын
The best thing about the MPC is it runs Linux so the amount of external gear you can add is huge, mine currently has 2 USB midi controllers and a 8 channel audio interface and basically runs as my daw. It's much better for synth players with a midi keyboard
