🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 02:05 🔄 *BDNF binds to TrkB receptors, leading to their dimerization and autophosphorylation, initiating signaling pathways for cell survival.* 03:28 🌐 *Three main signaling pathways activated by BDNF converge to promote cell survival, anti-apoptosis, growth, and neuroplastic changes.* 05:32 🔄 *Akt pathway involves phosphorylation cascades, promoting survival and neuroplastic changes, both gene expression-independent and gene expression-dependent.* 07:08 🌐 *Phospholipase C gamma pathway leads to calcium release, activating calmodulin kinase, initiating phosphorylation cascades for gene expression and promoting survival.* 11:29 🔄 *Ras-MAP kinase pathway, triggered by BDNF, involves kinases activating transcription factors, promoting gene expression for survival, growth, and neuroplasticity.* 13:21 🔄 *Long-lasting changes in cell growth and neuroplasticity require alterations in gene expression induced by BDNF signaling.* 14:59 🧠 *BDNF promotes neurogenesis (growth of new neurons), synaptogenesis (formation of new synapses), and strengthens synapses, contributing to neuroplasticity.* Made with HARPA AI

Would you please make a video on how BDNF signalling may be altered by exercise and some drugs and supplements (eg. l-theanine, SSRI's), as a possible antidepressant mechanism? This video explains well the role BDNF plays in improving neuronal connections. It seems reasonable that depression is a loss or down-regulation in certain signalling pathways and BDNF might be one mechanism to restore it. Thanks!

Thanks for the video! One question: How Ca2+ is released from ER?

Wait so BDNF is proven to actually GROW new neurons? for decades it was always taught to us that they are impossible to grow right? this is amazing. so Boxers who had so much trauma have hope now right?

Great explanation of this signalling pathway Kevin! TrkB is Tropomyosin receptor kinase B (a receptor tyrosine kinase as you explained) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropomyosin_receptor_kinase_B
