It's very interesting how the Book became part of Castlevania canon by having Quincy Morris' offspring become Protagonists in Bloodlines & Portrait of Ruin.

As someone who's been following the Dracula Daily mailing list, an important thing to note is that all of the events of this story take place inside of a few Months, from May to October. With Dracula only being in England for a Month, at most. Now consider how long Dracula probably spent plotting his scheme; learning English, researching locations to purchase in England, figuring out how to "game" his cursed need to spend the day in the soil of his homeland to see if it could be carried across borders and work. This was the work of months, if not years of planning. He was planning to stay in England for centuries, and he ends up having to scurry back to Transylvania because he picked on the wrong goddamn victim.

You also gotta consider this when thinking hard on it: He did NO research whatsoever on Harker, honestly he probably just picked a name at random from an English Directory one of his Gypsies brought him. The fact that he didn't do enough scouting was actually what did him in, not the Heroes themselves...

@@peggyliepmann5248 and that's something that always bugged me about the Heroes; I know it was a different time and place, but NO WAY would three of them(2 ex- suitors and one Newly Wed) be able to get along that well, especially given how the Woman in question had been stringing them along FOR MONTHS(at her own admittence, no less). You could argue that it was mutual Revenge plot of theirs(it was one of the Good things they did in the Oldman Movie at least), but it's flimsier than a Boat made outta Pulp trying to cross the Atlantic...

@@OrpheusSpyros5 Researching a person or family of low birth (ie. not noble or royal) that lives more than a thousand miles away _during a period when the telegraph was the height of communications technology_ wasn't that easy, fast or simple. Besides, Dracula did expect being easily able to control or destroy Jonathan and anyone else getting in his way. As far as the ex-suitors teaming up: "Hey, this guy who stole our chance is actually an unholy monster that must be destroyed. If we kill him we have another chance."

Another thing most will be adaptations leave out is the fact that the Count has a mustache. Also having the graphic novel illustrated in black-and-white was a nice touch.

Huh... the timing of this upload is ironic. What If Bram Stokers Dracula was faithfully retold in comic form but with the actors likeness of the famous movie, it was announced on December 12th we are revisiting Batman issue 428 but Jason Todd living!

Wish Last Voyage of The Demeter had Dracula look like Bela's Dracula. I personally believe it would've been creepier that something that looks human is killing the crew.

I don't mind him looking more beastly in the boat, as I more chalk it up to him slowly regaining his strength. After though, did not like he still looked the same. Absolutely no way he would blend in looking like that.

The comic is probally easier to follow than the book as well. The Original book was written as a collection of Journal entries and news clippings. It can be hard to read for some, but the comic seems to make it easier.

I wish someone would make a comic adaptation of Nosferatu. Not Dracula, the 1922 Nosferatu film, with Count Orlock and all the unique parts of that film's version of the Dracula story, like Orlock bringing a plague to Germany, and Ellen (the film's version of Mina) destroying him by sacrificing herself to keep Orlock busy until the sun rises.

Quincy Morris is a badass, and the vast majority of adaptations do him dirty; either excluding him or combining him with other characters. I don't even think the Coppola film did him (or the story) that great of a service.

The Coppola movie ruined Mina too by making her fall in love with Drac. I can’t get over how stupid of a decision that was. Imagine if they remade Stephen King’s It, Pennywise still ate children, but the screenwriter thought he deserved “sympathy” for some dumb reason and had one of the group fall in love with them.

This is a cool idea for a comic and the art work looks great. The adaptation does a good job capturing the essentials of the book. A part of me was wondering if they would include other actors from the Browning film or cast characters from the book based on the film's release year, but I understand the need to avoid any likeness issues.

Fun fact there’s actually another fatal comic adaptation of Dracula, and this adaptation was made by some of the most talented people in the industry at the time and possibly even some of the most talented people in the industry period.

The moment this review came to my attention, I knew I had to get this comic. I finally got it as a belated gift from a friend. Another friend of mine, whom I shared it with, described it as "Dracula - The Definitive Edition." I don't see a reason to disagree.

so....are we ever going to get a comic adaptation that has Cristpher Lee's Dracula used? he always did want to be in a more faithful adaptation of Dracula and only ever got a 1970s film that, i believe still strayed a bit but was more faithful than the Hammer films

When I was in grade school I got a book from the library that was pretty much this concept, combining the Legosi movie with more from Stoker's novel. It was a paperback. So I kinda seen this before. Just saying.

Transfused blood probably tastes like a drink from a used cup. Like drinking root beer then filling the same cup with mango juice. The funny thing is that Dr. Van Helsing transfused blood from himself and Lucy's suitors into her without any knowledge of blood types, which were not discovered until after the book released. Dracula was unintentionally healing her by removing it.

Say what you will about the Oldman version of the Movie, it was at least a slightly better adaptation of the Original Book. If Legosi wasn't the better actor between the two(given that the Dracula Movie was Scary Oldman's first lead roll) in the Roll, I'dve chosen it. It's nice to see this Book is much more faithful to the Source Material, nice Pic....

I’m not a fan of the Oldman version trying to turn Drac into a “sympathetic” character while he still does horrible things. Then they turn it into a poorly aged 90s toxic romance when non of that was in the book. In the book, Dracula was recognized as the truly evil monster he was by all the characters, yes, even Mina. She didn’t fall for a serial r**ist/murderer like in that dumb take that unfortunately uses Bram Stoker’s name in the title.

@@ruggiebuggie3195 that's true, but you gotta remember what was the big trend in Hollyweird at the time: Interview with A Vampire had come out just a little bit before this(I THINK), so producer's were all on the "Sympathetic Villain" Trope. Not excusing what they did(any scene with Oldman in it seems to Drag unnecessarily because of it), just explaining the Motive a bit.

The idea of Dracula is so simple and yet the story from the novel starts out because of land purchase leading to the main character being a lawyer and one of the supporting ones is a stereotypical American cowboy. Weird
