"David Gates and Bread" were on top of the music world in the early 1970s. This man had the voice of an angel. "Everything I Own," was another huge hit. It was a song about the sudden and unexpected death of his father. A beautiful tribute to his dad.

Hi guys from Phoenix, Arizona. I was born and raised the great state of Colorado. When this song and album came out I was 14 yo and was seeing a girl at the time. We both loved this song so I would sing it to her looking into her eyes. I will always remember that!

Bread was a hit machine in the 1st half of the 1970s. They are the epitome of 'soft rock'. I called them 'White Bread' back in the day, but I've grown to appreciate them more with age.

Bread has always been one of my favorite bands. Coming from a Rocker that my top 3 Bands are Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Rush. Honors to Fleetwood Mac and Boston oh and Steely Dan. 1973 The 1st album I bought in college was the best of Bread👌 ❤, it became one of my favorite albums. 1946-1964 the largest generation, it was the after World War 2 baby boom. All of them coming of age in the 60's, 70's and 80's no wonder there was so much great music, 😀 the larger the population the greater the amount of talent, all I know is I loved those times thanks for always reminding me with these great groups😀 Peace✌️ and Love❤️ Gary😊, A lot of us Baby Boomers👶 are your biggest fans❤️

A very good easy listening group started in 1970. Lead Dave Gates had a great voice. Many very good songs, only one was different, not easy listening. Actually I saw them in a gym in 71 , very good concert in Pennsylvania Also only $5.00 a ticket😊, it's true.

Beautiful song! I grew up listening to the soft rock music of Bread in the 70's & had their albums. Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. They had so many hits such as "Make It With You", "Everything I Own", "Baby I'm-a Want You", "Lost Without Your Love", "It Don't Matter To Me", "The Guitar Man", "Sweet Surrender", "Aubrey" etc. In 1978, Gates enjoyed success as a solo artist with the hit singles "Goodbye Girl" (from the movie The Goodbye Girl) & "Took The Last Train".

I heard this when I was a kid of 10 years old. I always enjoy the song, but I never paid attention to the story behind the lyrics, until now. But I agree, he loved her enough to let her go. And he wished her well. A good note to end on.

Very shocking the first time you hear it and quite sad. Many have had this sort of experience if not to the point of marriage, but just being interested in someone and the other person either unaware or interest in someone else. Great twist of a song. David Gates is a wonderful singer.

Hey Guys, you really need to stop giving yourselves a hard time about your English. You both probably speak it as a 2nd., 3rd., or 4th., language, I know many English people, that you would put to shame. I have a little true story for you, the last house I lived in was my family home and I lived there for 63 years. At the end of the road was a corner shop and dairy, called Bedford's. The owner, who I had known since childhood, inherited the shop from his parents and decided to make a few changes. There was a bit of shopfitting, a general clean-up and a new paint job. It was pretty much all done, bar the finishing touches, so a signwriter, was putting the new name up. Very soon after the job was done, we noticed that the signwriter, instead of putting Tom Bedford's Dairy, had instead put Tom Bedford's Diary. It stayed like that for quite a while, only going to show that some English people, struggle with the difference between dairy and diary also.
