This is the bitter truth of Sri Lankan culture. Hats off to you for bringing this up where no one want to talk about this . When I was in Sri Lanka same happened to my daughter as she has a darker skin. I am so glad that I brought her here, where people appreciate other things other than a skin colour.

Exactly they don’t know brown and darker skins are more trend now,
Absolutely spot on.This is in South Asian countries. Even teachers do this in selecting students for concerts.

When I was live in SL, I was sad bout my black skin. After I coming to Australia, I am very proud of my black skin because many white people like my skin colour.
I live in a western country and married to a European. I am dark skinned and his family loves my skin colour. Now I am in my middle age and I don't colour my hair. I hardly wear any jewellery. Our lives are very simple. Be yourself.
👏👏👏 Absolutely right.. I am married for 13years with a Korean national and He is athletically talented person and has nicely maintained handsome figure. skin yellowish &stunning..electronic engineer by profession. and owns a big stock company. he has fallen love with not only me.but my brown skin..

Yes . Some times Our people are crazy . Happy for you Dear. 🤗
A brilliant subject to address. Every word you spoke touched my heart, probably because I've gone through the same from an early age. My older sister was fair skinned and I was dark. It was not just the outsiders, who would call me " Kalu kelle" but even my own family, aunt, moms sister 😭she went to such an extent where she would tell everyone that every part of my body should be painted white !!! ( I'm not ashamed to say this because I know how much it affected me) Imagine a little child having to hear this. At least children of today, voice their opinion. We had no choice but to keep quiet for fear of physical abuse. I wish people were broad minded like you. I hope and pray this would be an eye-opener to everyone. May the Almighty bless your soul.
Thank you Ms Anoja W...You got to have confidence in yourself...We all got to be ourselves..I once went to Poland and had pleasant reviews of our browny skin complexion.People need to be true to themselves.Be yourself.Your authentic self. That's so radiant and charming.
You have addressed a extremely important subject. you are right . Keep it up. Sri Lanka need women like you.

So very true! It’s a very sad thing that people don’t know what to say and what not to say to someone. They don’t realize words can drive someone to even take their own life. It’s important we tech children to be strong and have self confidence. Growing up people shamed me for my curly hair all the time and it damaged me very much. I used to be ashamed of my curls and wanted to hide them every time possible. I flat ironed my hair as an adult. But now I’m confident in my own curls and I celebrate it. I wish everyone will listen to you and learn to mind their own business and not shame others for being unique. Thanks Aunty Anoja for sharing your wisdom! ❤️🙏🏽
