I love your Muscovys they are gorgeous. I have around 30 or more Muscovies now they are all pied. My flock has come from my neighborhood and when I moved where I am now I took them all in and took care of them. The neighborhood can't stand them they speed through my neighborhood and sometimes run them over and don't care (ducklings and grown) it breaks my heart. I've raised my first muscovy myself I found her in the road and she was not even a week old and fell in love she's just amazing. Thank you for your channel I love it!

Lisa, thank you so much for your kind words and support in watching my channel. It really makes me feel blessed to be able to share the things I'm passionate about with others and to know they find value (or at least entertainment) in them. So thanks for watching! Do you just keep them for pets? Do you have to sell ducklings so you don't get too big of a flock?

@@FableHillFarm I keep them but I've been picking up their eggs so that we don't go overboard and they are free range. There have been so many hawks lately grabbing my ducklings so my heart can't take the hawks getting them.

I am new to the Muscovy and I love them. We got a flock of 10 a year ago and now have 23, including my loving stalker Poe ( he was hand raised). I have been watch your videos with interest, especially on colour. I won champion water fowl with my princess, she is traditional black and white pied. I am excited though because, by watching you, I have discovered I have a Lilac pied. She had 2 babies hatch today.

I've been watching your videos for about a week because we just got our first ever muscovy hens and we hwve 3 now. One white, one black and white pied I think it's called and one bronze that's like a chocolate and white color. Anyway I was curious if i have a choice between a black and white with green wings and maybe ripple or peid im bad with those feather variants or a mostly blue drake who looks grey and maybe a slight darker head which one should i pick for my hens? I have a woman that is willing to adopt me out one of her drakes and those are rhw choices. I juat dont know what kind of colors each of them wold produce if that makes sense. 😅

Howdy guys. Great video. I use the same chart. Nice spreadsheet work. You really have a nuanced plan for your breeding. If only I were half as organized I would be able to call this gorgeous chaos here a breeding program. I free range everyone so arranged marriages are just not possible here. They have been doing a great job of it themselves though. If y'all were a little closer I'd hook you up with some looney genetics. If you ever plan a trip up into ontario you'll have to stop by the homestead with your clan and pass on some of those pro muscovy wrangler skills.

Hey Jasper. Thanks very much for watching. I also free-range our birds and that’s still something that’s important to me so my plan is to build an enclosed run around our duck house and alternate each breeding group coming out every other day so they are still getting out on our property and being the awesome little insect assassins they are. I will definitely let you know if I’m ever heading over to Ontario. I appreciate the welcome! I would love to add looney genetics. Would you ever consider shipping eggs?

I do have a question, How come my blacks gave me a grey color ? Is that still considered a black ? And then I got a hen that looks like a wood duck colored one. She is beautiful though. So does the blacks throw out different colors?
@FableHillFarm
@FableHillFarm 4 жыл бұрын
Blacks can produce black, blue (which could be what you mean when you say grey?) and silver typically. It really all depends on the underlying genetics of what those birds carry. If there are recessive genes at play, then there can be more color possibilities. If you want to send me photos of your birds to help you identify colors, you can send a message on my facebook farm page, Fable Hill Farm, or tag @fablehillfarm on Instagram in a photo of them.

Thank you for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Too bad you don't have access to a wider genetic pool - the variety of colors and patterns is so much fun when it comes down to establishing a breeding flock. I'm really looking forward to this year's hatch. Should be some beautiful birds, lots of variety. What colors do you have there? Where in India are you located? I dream of visiting some day. @FableHillFarm
@FableHillFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for watching Calvin. The 'split to' refers to a recessive gene that is inherited. So if you have a drake split to chocolate and you breed him to a chocolate hen, you get the option of chocolate offspring as well.

It really depends on the genetics behind the birds. Black is dominant but if you have heavy pied birds, you may need to bring in more solid genes to see solid black birds.

On the color chart, what does split to mean?
@FableHillFarm
@FableHillFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for watching. Split to means that animal is a recessive carrier for that trait. A drake split to chocolate is not chocolate himself but is a carrier that could produce chocolate if paired with the right hen.

Just giving heads up about duck's is they will fly over to neighbors porch sit on their fence looking in their windows , & maybe go to their cat foot & maybe do their droppings there as well , & at their owners home step's & porches & out side hall ways between house & shed , so need tarp sheet to keep changing every few hours , & will sit on power lines , & some neighbors will catch them for blocking their car/s from moving a whole 20 adults or less . If move where can't have pet's will miss them a lot . And need to watch out for dogs chasing them and killing them & pet female turkey adults as well the dogs will catch and kill . A small one would chase them to the German shepherd size dogs to kill . And another thing , if have adult breeding pair with 2 female adults & the 2 have clutch of eggs , & new male & few females come a month later of the ones already there , the ones with eggs will try to corner them and attack them all the time and the eggs will get soggy & smell & won't hatch .

Hi there Karl, thank you for watching. Great points you made that could be very helpful to people I'm sure! Thanks for sharing all of that. I am from SW Florida originally where Muscovies are quite invasive and thrive in that climate. Here on our farm in West Michigan, we have been really fortunate that our flock likes our property and stays put without getting their wings clipped or being penned up. Every once in awhile, a couple of them might lap our hay field or wander down onto the road but we live in a rural area and they've never gone all the way to the neighbors - they've got enough to keep them busy at our house, thankfully.
