Hey I got a Syrian hamster today! She is absolutely adorable and so far she has had her ears up the whole time, cleaning herself, standing up on her back legs showing all the signs of being content. I even gave her a little teeny piece of carrot and she just ate it from my hand. I think I have a very confident little baby already ❤️😍

I now feel a real sense of guilt for a hamster I owned when I was a kid. We are talking 30 years ago. We had the worst cage for her and she chronically chewed on her bars. I always thought she was doing it to file her teeth down…now it’s most likely from stress of being in such an awful cage. Ugh…that’s a hard feeling to take on. I’m so sorry Hammy, you deserved better.

King Max I had the same problem I gave my hamster lots of time and once she had started getting a little bit better without any interaction for about two weeks I got her to the bath tub and I sat down and waited till she came to me ! I did this for a while and she eventually found out that I wasn’t going to hurt her😁 I recommend giving ur hammy lots of time and just keep trying 😁 be patient with ur 🐹 hammy

@@Halinawithani Your parents probably will not allow you to get a sick hamster :// exotic vets are expensive. If you want a hamster I suggest choosing a healthy one, since the stress of moving plus being sickly may just speed up the death of the sick hamster. It's sad but true. I would also suggest taking pictures of any inhumane conditions and then report the store to animal rescues such as RSPCA, etc. If you see the same hamster again in that store & they don't seem too bad you could perhaps take a picture and post about it on social media to find someone in your area to try and rescue the hamster. Just remember that every hamster that leaves a pet shop is just opening up a slot for a new one to come in :(

I adopted a hamster from a shelter and he's only a few months old so all he's really known is being moved around to different foster homes and such so he was wayyyy more calm and unbothered than the hamsters that I have gotten from pet stores. He didn't care in the slightest when I would accidentally clang his bars or if my hand was in his bin, he would just carry on as normal. what an unbothered king 😂

I think a plastic carrier would be a great idea! You can reuse it and If you have to take it room to room, and they’re jumpy, it’s good to be safe and make sure they can’t fall out of your hands from that height.

I sat by my hamsters cage, talking to him, reading to him and even singing sometimes for the first few days. And i think that it has really helped him get used to me. I haven't picked him up yet but I've only had him for six days and he is already comfortable with eating treats from my hand. And he is also both eating, drinking and playing while I'm around or have my hand in his cage. Thank you for all the amazing advice!

I so agree and appreciate what you are saying. I read up about hamsters when my daughter wanted one for her birthday. There was an interesting study with results that show that hamsters with inadequate housing with minimal bedding and only a wheel...are “depressed” compared to hamsters with stimulating and interesting, appropriate sized housing- who continued to show a willingness to try new things. I try to do seasonal enhancements, as a little pumpkin in the fall, a cardboard box full of tissues, a new natural item...just try to keep it interesting.

Thank-you for this video. We have a couple months old Russian Dwarf Hamster in an aquarium. I got bit today because I thought he was being affectionate and then I got bit. So I'll be leaving him alone unless he needs food and water. He forages well, burrows even better, loves all the thing in his enclosure and he's naturally curious and has many places to hide. You can talk normally but just not suddenly or loudly, talking to them often is helpful as they get used to you more

Years ago I had my first hamster he was a Syrian and I loved him to bits tho I never cared for him right I knew after he passed I needed to improve my care watching ur videos and about 3 years later I got a new Syrian and I’m so much more confident with my care!

My 4 year old and I are quite enjoying these videos- and find them so much for informative than the PetSmart email we got🙄 I honestly wish I had read these prior to listening to these employees suggesting this hamster for my 4 year old. I realize now she is basically MY pet and she requires a ton of work, but I am loving geeking out over hamster care and caring for her.

My dwarf hammy escaped the fiirst day I got him he just jumped out the door and of the table was chasing him around with a treat and box for 10 minutes.... Then he climbed up my leg :/ managed to get him into the box after that

The first time I saw my hamster empty it’s cheek pouches I thought she was barfing and my brother thought the same thing and we had to google if they puked because we where terrified. Then I found out that they had cheek pouches and had to tell my best friend who has the biological sister of my hamster. And know it’s cute to see my hamster empty her pouches 😂

I’ve been looking through a lot of your videos and want to do the best I can for my hamster since I just bought him. Right now he is living in a critter tale cage but I as soon as I can I am going to get him a bigger enclosure, a wider variety of food, and a lot more toys and chewies. Your videos have been a lot of help :)

Hi Victoria, I have been commenting every day to tell you about my animals. I said to my father, "can I have a robo dwarf hamster in a cage as big as the bonnet of your car and with bedding as deep as the length of my long 2 foot hair?" and all he said was, "Well you do have three Guinea pigs soon to be six, a giant rabbit, a dog and a chicken so maybe?" I went in the house and in my head I was like *I'm going to get a hamster* I told him that they aren't *QUITE* as much work as my rabbit and herd of guinea pigs, and it could live in my bedroom. He just replied again with, "Maybe, I mean I'm unsure."🐹💕😋

The pet hamster we got when I was a child was a rehomed one. She was pressed up against the front of the cage looking at us curiously from day one. I only vaguely remember her since I was so little. But watching your videos have filled me with nostalgic memories of the little twitchy ears and tiny feet of my best childhood friend! ❤️
