You forgot a few major components of this type of doctrine. You plant landmines _everywhere_ along the front lines to create a definitive no mans land, ideally reinforced by a natural barrier such as a river, then you hit beyond the minefield with the artillery to 'motivate' the enemy to push into your minefield to close with and engage your artillery. You then pair this by putting a machine-gun behind every other bush and every fifth brick on a wall, and anti-tank with clear fields of fire in an ambush position. Finally, you test the enemies defences periodically to see if they have been attrited sufficiently to make a breakthrough. There are two kinds of break-through. Partial, where you manage to gain ground but the enemy has sufficient depth in their defence to respond, and total, where you punch a hole clean through their lines and can flow in forces deep into enemy territory and occupy it. This commonly causes defeat via mass-rout, but in CoH could be adapted to a win condition by conquest facilitated by force regeneration outscaling the enemies, combined by a series of decisive advances during periods where the enemy is attempting to regenerate their combat power. Suppress, decimate, probe, push, entrench, repeat. I am not a trained soldier. There are plenty of trained soldiers far more qualified to teach doctrine. Take what I say with a pinch of salt and as a basic guide to WWI style doctrine. Bear in mind that if the enemy manages to create a weakness, the tank was basically invented to facilitate the exploitation of it. Your defensive gameplay needs to be rock-solid in order for this to be particularly effective - although if it is, you can have some hilarious games rolling over WWII armies using WWI and inter-war doctrine.

So fun fact about the Maginot, the plan was to wrap the Maginot along the Belgian-German border, but Belgium was like "nah, we don't want Frenchies on our property". However, the French didn't want to continue the line along the French-Belgian border because A. They didn't want to isolate a potential ally, and B. They wanted access to possibly meet the German forces midway to France if possible to protect Belgium. No one accounted for the speed at which German forces went through Belgium and the Ardennes.
@purplefood15 жыл бұрын
Belgium also didn't want the war to be happening in their country as it tends to make a mess. As a result they attempted a diplomatic policy where they tried to convince the Germans to not invade and at the same time built up their own border with the Germans to please France. Unfortunately the Germans bypassed to neutralised the forts with commandos.

Fun historical fact; Haig literally sacrificed men like they were candy to children. The British and French threw people into the fights because they literally could not break the German lines. The allies barely cracked the lines maybe 5 times at most; and the Germans damn near took Paris in a single push. The Germans had the right idea of mobility warfare but their commanders were doing the same thing as the allies. The allies made the smart move of tanks first but it only worked so well. Ultimately what actually ended the war was the collapse of the support for allied leadership and the allies desperate need for the war to end is what brought WW1 to an end. America ended the war but only because the allies were so ready to quit they would have quit before the Germans did. Essentially alternate history would have seen the axis win if America hadn't joined the war.
