Bugera sounds more creamy and warm, a bit compressed. Peavey sounds with more bright, is more agressive and organic, maybe a bit cold. I prefer the Bugera sounding.

I personally prefer the Bugera hands down. Although they do sound quite similar, I can definitely tell without looking when the you switch between them. The bugera has a more percussive, organic, throaty sound in comparison with the peavey, which IMO sounds thinner, fizzier, and more compressed. Great comparison! I must say I was suprised.

I have a Bugera 6260 Infinium which is supposed to be a 5150 i clone. The Infinium series are very reliable and allow you to swap tubes without biasing. I'm running 2 JJ's 6L6's with 2 stock 6L6's and love the tone I get. The biggest thing I did to my tone however, was to change out the speakers in my cheap Crate cab. I installed Eminence Texas Heat speakers and everything came alive. The Bugera amp only cost $400 new and with the speaker upgrade, I have a rig that sounds like it costs over $3000. Very happy.

And they have versions of like the Eminence legend etc.. The texas heat is ok, but you could still get some better speakers in the future imo. The veteran 30's are $65 to $70 whereas a vintage 30 celestion is $140.

+Daniel Willen I personally prefer the 6262, if you're playing metal or harder rock it's definitely worth it. Overall i think the Trirec is the best Bugera though, it is $50-$100 more than the 6262 but it has the two 5U4 rectifier tubes and sounds quite close to the Mesa Dual Rectifier. The other guitarist i play with in a band uses it, i used to use a Dual Rectifier too so i know what they sound like and it was 90-95% as good as the real thing for like 40% of the price lol.

Having a good objective listen though some decent monitors the Peavey still stands out, I think there's a touch more punch to it. But seriously that's a pretty damn good effort on the part of Bugera there! And I suspect some higher quality valves to the stock ones and a little EQ will easily compensate for the tiny differences.

The thing about "scooped" mids is that it's become a matter of all or nothing. Most ams don't have the 5 band graphic like a Boogie, so you get one knob, usually centered at 1KHz, and turning it down cuts right out of the center. The tight "scooped yet not so scooped" tone that a lot of metal bands use is low-mids being pulled down a bit just to prevent mud at high-gain levels, but the high-mids are still aloowed to breathe. Plus no knob should be all the way down unless you want a thin sound.

This is the first back to back test I've heard where I couldn't care one way or the other. They're so close you couldn't pick them out blind. Good job man. The good part about picking up a used 5150II is that it's going to hold its value forever as long as you don't trash it. The Bugeras are kind of in that realm where they aren't made super solid and get a reputation for not lasting. We had one ignite at the local shop. Couldn't have been that old, it was new or store model.

I read up before I got my Bugera last week, and when they first cam eout, they were not reliable at all, even by tube amp standards. They were known to blow tubes, caps, and flimsy pots. Behringer addressed the concerns, and from what I read, their reliable is supposed to be good now. As a point of interest, if you register a new Bugera within 90 days of purchase, they will extend the warranty to 3 years. A warranty won't help if it fails onstage, but it's better than 1 year.

I really think these amps get a bad name because of that fact that they are very affordable they fall into the hands of armature players more often than with more seasoned players with the money to get any amp they desire ,so with someone who isn't familiar with how a tube amp works and not having the ear for dialing in a band setting worthy tone they get a bad rep , and this just in! tubes need to be replaced eventually with modern made tubes they don't make them like they used to so think of it this way fifty - sixty years ago tubes were state of the art so they had to be well made that's why you hear about old marshals and vox amps with forty/fifty year old tubes ,we're the only dummies still using tubes

WOW! This an excellent comparison. 5150 has that ballsy upper mid-range boost while the 6262 has a signature growl, sounds slightly scooped, and with a little less "fuzz". The rhythm guitarist in the band uses a mesa mark V combo, this is the second best combo amp in the world-IMO. It has a fair few features and components that my bugera does not have, HOWEVER, in terms of volume, drive and clean tone, it has much more for 1/3 the price. his amp on 9 is as loud as mine on 4. I would recommend Bugera to anyone, just make sure you get a warranty as they are made nowere near as beautifully as a mesa.

They are the exact same amp, the Bugera is a copy of the Peavey. Any differences heard in tone is probably due to different mic placement, lesser quality parts in the Bugera or other factors that inevitably come into play during the recording process. As far as an opinion on buying anything from Bugera, enjoy your trip back to the guitar store in a week after you buy it. When I asked my local music shop how many Bugera's come back broken after being sold, he replied "all of them."

When it comes to tone its really personal preference. I've played for over 20 years. I love all kinds of metal. I own tube and solid state amps. I like amp distortion and pedal distortion. Some pedals sound better with certain amps and some people just can't dial stuff in to much gain or treble. Or cut their mids to much. My tone is ever changing. Besides when your mic'd through a p.a. your tone changes anyway. Sometimes you have to change it to be heard in your bands mix so noone is drowned out

Actually, I somewhat have to agree with Raqubor. I was thinking that the 6262 was definitely a little darker and more midrangey. Actually, ironically, it might be easier to get an EVH "brown sound" out of the 6262 if that is indeed the case. One thing, though... Whatever tubes are installed in the amp can actually make a big difference. I've had a bunch of 6L6GC equipped amps and replaced them with SEDs from whatever Sovteks people end up sticking in amps most of the time and it's a huge change

That's a proper side by side comparison. Enough riffs played on both amps that reveal all the nuances and not jut a random open chord. It seems there's an obvious difference this way (esp on the high end), but if the Bugera was put on a 5150 case and given to someone, he couldn't tell the difference playing it on it's own IMHO... Thanks for sharing this Ola man :)

and given that you can have a 6262 at 1/3rd the price I dont see why anyone would buy the 5150 anymore, apart for brand-loyalty (there's nothing wrong with that, btw). But, Peavey act like snobs and refuse to start any dealerships in developing countries like India (that's where I'm from) whereas Bugera has dealerships and support all over the planet. So the choice for me is pretty straightforward here :) Thanks a lot Ola! This was just awesome. I love underdogs, and I love the Bugera.

the 5150 is more fluffy, and 6262 is more solid. the 6262 is battling for space in the mix because of how solid it is, like it's not "moving over" for the other instruments and they cover up the guitar tone, where the 5150 is more transparent so you can hear right through it, i can distinguish individual notes easier with the 5150. and everything just sounds so clear. the 6262 also sounded more scooped to me in the upper mids. the 6262 was heavier. 5150 sounded more organic to me. all opinion...

I have a Bugera 333XL for month now, playing it every day and I don't have any problem at all. You can go for it. You can break 4 or 5 bugera it's still cheaper than only one Peavey.

I have used my Bugeras all over the world for live and studio gigs a like and I can say without a doubt they are some of the best at any price. I have kicked the shit out of them and never had an issue. My 1990 and 6262 are my babies! Next will be the 333XL! It's great to see the look on someones face when they complement your tone with desire in their eyes and then watch their smile fade when they see that your $600 head just kicked their $3500 head's ass in the mud! Priceless!

The bugera sounds just a hair thinner, a little less umph on that low end but for HALF the price I'm sure you can find a eq pedal to dial in a little more lows/low-mids to get it to sound EXACTLY the same....not to mention that ALL the nobs on both amps were set to noon so you could just as well turn the bass up on the Bugera and make them just about indistinguishable, especially in a studio where you're going to eq everything anyway after tracking!!!!

At the beginning of the video I liked the Bugera more, by the end of the video I was all in for the Peavey. Great review on these two beasts of an amp, well played...and good for me because I am purchasing the Peavey 5150 II and a 4x12 cab today, stoked!

They still are. i'm not saying you can't get a rock solid amp for cheap, but the law of averages would side with Peavey as having the higher quality amplifier. Yours may still be mint, but I have seen a Peavey drop out of a car and work with nothing but a tube swap.

the problem isn't really to get poweramp distortion, it's to overcome this "underpowering" of the tubes that makes them sound shit at low volumes.from my experiences i've found that most amps reach their full potential at about 3/10 on the master volume, and the lower you go the worse it gets (all depending on the amp of course). so, it makes a difference if you can put the master to 3/10 or 1/10 to get the same volume. try something with a powersoak like an engl gigmaster to hear it in person.

First batch of 6262/6262/333/333xl had the notorious sizzling connector issue where by design there is a connector from the power transformer secondary onto the main PCB which was never meant to handle the copious current that these amps chew through and it eventually it fries. only a matter of time. It is easily repaired by soldering the wires directly to the pins on the main PCB. Also, all 333/333xl knobs are quite flimsy. Not an issue with the 6260/6262.

I feel that if the bugera had some more processing in the FX loop, say like a sonic maximizer, and compression (be it rack mounted or in front of the amp) and it would sound exactly the same as the peavey if not better, for still a fraction of the price. These are seriously under rated amps.

I know this is an older video, but I've been looking into the whole 5150 sound and I have to say that the Bugera is thoroughly impressing me. That being said, you can get an OG 5150 for about the same price as a new Bugera. Not only are you getting a solid fuckin' tank of an amp (Peaveys are insanely reliable), you're getting a piece of history too. But that's not to knock the Bugera at all. If I can't find a 5150 head anywhere in my budget, I won't be heartbroken at all about getting a 6262.

I will tell you a very important thing that happens with the bugeras. You guys should BIAS it right out of the box, especially the ones that come with 6L6's, since the setting 6L6 that bugeras come with are really COLD for the valves. You need to get a BIAS PROBE and set the amp to the lowest BIAS setting, then put it to EL34 and measure it. That way you can BIAS the amp properly with enough current to make it sound good. THAT WAY this amp sounds 95% like a real 5150. 100% sure.

The main difference I heard was that the Bugera had some kind of boost in the higher mid-range which is simply a matter of taste. The Peavey had a less prominent mid-range and thus sounded slightly more "metal for the money", fatter, for that particular song. Again, a matter of taste. The differences were slight though and if Bugera has sorted out their early quality problems I can't think of any reason to choose the 5150 II over the Bugera 6262.

You are more than obviously right, that's not some kind of a secret at all :D However, a good friend of mine bought one of these like 3 years ago, and yes it blew up after 2 weeks. Some tiny stuff has been replaced, and it kicks ass ever since then! Now the other guitarist plays this amp as well, and they do an outstanding job live as well! Not to mention, that you get this quality for half the price of a peavey :) Okay, not the same quality, but c'mon! :)

I've owned several peaveys and have had a lot of issues. I've got buddies with marshalls. My bugera has had no issues and I crank it at home and with my band for several hours at a time and its been really reliable. I think engl's are really awesome a friend of mine has a engl endorsement and uses them. So if I did buy a higher end amp again I would go with engl. I just think bugera gets a bad rap compaired to other more established companies who had reliability issues in the 60's 70's and 80's.

The sounds are very similiar. But it seems as though the Peavey has just a pinch more presence or edge to it. With that said, both tones are outstanding.

Both sound great. Peavey has some extra spice in the upper mid range as I hear it, as if it was played with a v30 speaker and Bugera sounds as if through g12t75.

This video illustrates what they sound like at the same settings, but that doesn't mean you can't get the exact same sound out of the two.

Is 1000 dollars really worth that tiny of a difference? I don’t think so. Both are good amps, but I would only choose the peavey if I had a bunch of cash to throw around, but if I were on a budget, the 6262 is an amazing amp for the price. So 9 times out of 10 I’d go Bugera.

Awesome video, awesome playing, awesome song. So yeah... Frankly the differences are almost too small to really matter. Both amps would be perfectly usable. Personally I liked the 5150 clips a little better because the tone had more grit to it.
