I bought a 2013 Tacoma new. One recall that I have been notified about was a problem related to cold and humidity....ie northern Ontario and Quebec. I live in southern alberta. cold and dry. Toyota gave me a new undercoat regardless. My truck has been above the arctic circle twice on the Dempster highway. This truck will NEVER die.

@@bufallobiff when I repainted, the truck had some minor body damage of dents, scratches, dings, etc. I was teaching scuba to Boy Scouts and it had made a few trips through the woods and had its fair share of parking lot damage. I paid a body guy around $600 to fix the body work and then I sanded it with my orbital sander and hand painted it in a bed liner paint called Monstaliner. Did it in my driveway for $500....with a textured roller. Truck has 313k miles now. After looking at new F-150’s and new Tundras, I’m just going to keep it.

Not too much wrong with my 2005 Tundra. The paint is peeling off the wheel wells & roof. I just had to replace the windshield wiper transmission, & the tailgate handle. My tire sensor light stays on, despite all the tires being aired to specification. I've heard that is a common problem. I bought the truck last August 2020 with 180K. It is immaculate inside. The previous owner installed a fancy radio, with Bluetooth, backup camera, & it plays DVDs as well. I'm very happy with my purchase, & look forward to putting my own miles on it. You didn't mention any specific major problems with my year, which makes me really happy!

Ok, so to manage these things, it sounds like the takeaways are: Plan to replace the leaf springs (easy); Inspect for frame rust, keep the frame clean (esp in winter) during ownership; Replace the stereo? If these are the reasons to avoid an entire vehicle line, prospective Tacoma owners should roll over to the Wrangler forums where their idea of a "reason to avoid" a model year includes: Failing heads, blown rear main seals, defective main crank bearings, cracked and leaking oil cooler and filter assemblies, and so on. I love the Toyota perspective -- don't buy a Tacoma because of rusty leaf springs..... ba hahahahaha ha. Jokes aside, this is a great analysis and provides excellent perspective about what constitutes serious issues in Toyota-land --- step outside the Toyota bubble, and these issues start to look pretty manageable.

It is a 4 banger and I do abuse her a bit, but absolutely love it. Only did plugs at 100,000 miles and oil/air filter changes. I own a 2006 tacoma, heard about the recall, called toyota and they replaced my leaf springs free of charge. All you need to do is call Toyota give them your VIN number and if your truck is on the list they’ll replace them free of charge. The sudden acceleration was taken care of when i took the truck in for service. All they did was cutout part of the carpet underneath the accelerator pedal and that was it. As far as the stereo goes i replaced mine shortly after i got the truck and therefore no issues here.

I have 2006 Taundra for 15 yrs now that it went trough 3 recalls which Toyota replaced passenger air bag, check ball joints which there is no problem and check for rust that is also not apply to mine. I only paid for replaced a starter on 70000 mi Yearly low maintenance (oil change) is less $100. I rate it, low maintenance and dependable truck. I put on 80000mi so far, and I changed timing belt. I love it, made in USA

I had a 2007 with the cold piston slap issue. They all might develop it eventually. GM had the same kind of problems on the Sierra and Chevy models. You just sometimes get a cylinder that was bored a smidge (talking 10 thousandths of an inch) over with a piston that came out of the cast mold a little small in diameter.

The secondary air pump failure issue was due to moisture being drawn into the intake system. Their solution was to place a baffle over the opening to the intake inside the passenger side fender. My daughter drove mine in a torrential downpour rainstorm once. A few days later, it would turn over, but not start on me. But, it seemed to go away. I got lucky in that it must not have drawn enough moisture into the system to cause the secondary air pump to completely fail.

If your late grandfather kept the oil changed & used the right oil, that truck is just getting broke in with only 58,000 miles. I know, because I bought a 2000 Tacoma 4x4 with 3RZ-FE engine & Aisin automatic transmission brand new. I just clicked 362,000 miles on it, and it still runs good as new. Actually, better than ever, due to recently installing a longtube header. Had I known how well the 3RZ responds to a header only, I would've done it years ago.

This video was not what I was looking for. I wanted to know why offroaders are preferring the Tacoma over the Tundra. Yet I'm glad I found this page. I have been a Tundra owner since 2007. I've modified my Tundras. Yes that was plural. The first year the new 5.7 Tundra came out I bought it site unseen while coming back from Arkansas to Huntsville Texas. Based on only stats. Come to find out years later that the 2007 model was completely unrestricted. Meaning full throttle in all 6 gears. This thing was unbeatable against every other stock truck on the market. Yeah I tested it every chance I had. I was told that the new 2007 model was unrestricted to gain popularity. OH and it worked. Years after that 1st through 3rd was restricted and a speed limiter was added. I'm trying to remember all the ones I had. 2007 2x4, 2013 2x4, 2016 4x4 (wrecked), 2013 2x4 (used) then the 2019 4x4. On the 2016 4x4 I helped K&N develop a cold air intake and did a flash tune on it. IT WAS FAST AS HELL!!!. The 2019 that I currently have I was given a cold air intake from K&N to test. It still needs a flash tune. I'm waiting on the developer to right the tune. My only problem with these trucks was wheel alignment problems. I had to have them re-aligned often. other then that I put almost 100,000.00 miles on it before trading it in. XM radio antenna was in the wrong place on the 2007 but quickly relocated it in future models. I hope this helps someone.

Rob you mentioned a noise coming from the driver side door at 2:59. I can attest to this issue. Now keep in mind, my truck has a 2 inch lift and off road tires, but I was going down the Interstate between 70-75, and it has done this a couple of times. The first time, it about freaked me out. As a particular oddity, when cruising at highway speeds, my moonroof might get a strange vibration coming from it (especially if it's a really windy day). Not sure if that's ever been reported or not. It's probably a combo of a few different things. Overall, I still love my 2016 Tacoma. My previous truck was a 2014 Tacoma, and I miss it. But my 16 is a step above the 2014. Enjoy the channel! keep up the good work!

My 05 Tundra is about to turn 400k. No problems with leaf springs, but I added a rough country add-a-spring first off, also added Rancho Quick struts with 2" lift on the front. 4.7 still runs perfect. Trans is starting to shutter, but my shop said bring it in and he can adjust that. I keep the oil changed at 5500 with Mobil1

All used trucks have problems, personally I'd take the Toyota problems over the Ford 😆 I love our 2007 TRD Tundra

Just bought a 05 Tacoma TRD black access cab I love it . Take the crap out of the door pockets , no road noise . My radio was shutting off randomly, I discovered my hand was hitting the steering wheel radio control . All mentioned are operator error except road rust .

05 Tacoma, 1st year of the 2nd gen. I have an 06 and I feel the same way. Amazing truck and well built. I only do normal maintenance and it treats me well. I have the 4.0, 4 door, 6.5 foot bed and find it to be a very useful smaller truck

In 48 years of various truck ownerships, my 2010 Tacoma has been the most reliable of them all. My frame was replaced by Toyota. Not a big deal. It took two days to do the job and they gave me a loaner 2018 Tacoma (I lie my 2010 better btw). Just regular maintenance stuff.

Yep, one thing after another with 2006 Tacoma, dealership acts clueless. Now making sense. Salesman tried to warn me but couldn't believe there could be a bad Toyota. Service dept so busy, I look across the street at the Honda dealership, made me think of the Maytag repairman commercial- the loneliest repairman in town. Hondas look like a decent machine.

My brother in-law had a 2001 Tundra ran with no issues. He pass it down to my nephew and the truck still running strong to this day. The only thing wrong with it is it now needs new paint. I got a 2013 Tundra crew cab took it across America. From westcoast to eastcost and still running like new. Only problem so far is I had to change the left turning signal and the left break light. The thing turns on and roars like a beast all the time. With that said I also owns a silverado 1500 and a tahoe. There's too many problems to mention but when it runs it's great. The worst issues are electrical on my tahoe. No one seems to know how to fix it. So yeah Tundra by many miles.
