You can fill a pot a little too full so they overcrowd each other and the flytraps don’t get enough sun. Or you’ll have to repot it really soon to allow more space. It would be hard to say how many plants is too many because they can all vary by size a lot. But you’ll want two inches at least between plants!
@LuisGonzalez-nc8qb2 жыл бұрын
Is compacting the soil a concern? Also do you ever have to fertilize?
@California_Carnivores2 жыл бұрын
We always compact it because it’s so wet and it naturally will settle an incredible amount in the pots, leading to roots and crowns being exposed. We do apply a foliar fertilizer once a month during the growing season. We prefer diluted Maxsea!

I'm confused won't the flytraps need to be frozen for part of the year?

All of the plants in this bog are temperate and require a chilly winter dormancy so they can be grown the same 😊

I bought a bog kit from yall a few months ago. Everything is thriving except one of the flytraps died. Im thinking of replacing it with the flytrap ginormous. The sundews are growing out of control. They have made 4 flowers already😂

I want to create a huge (64+ quart) bog garden, and I can't find a water tray big enough for that size planter. If it measures at 20 inches wide roughly how many fly traps, ping, sundews, and american picture plants would be good for it. I know they need room to fill out as they mature. Also I I can't find a water tray that big, do you have any suggestions for how to keep it wet? I intend to put them in the lowest and wettest part of my yard. That being said even a SC wet yard would eventually dry out, so I know I will possibly need another option to keep the bog garden wet. Also I'm doing it as large as I am for a memorial garden.

That’s a great project! It’s hard to know what to use for a tray. You could do a non-draining bog instead. That may be easier than finding a tray. It’s hard to estimate how many plants to put into it. I would say that each flytrap, drosera and ping will take up about 3” of space to start and then steadily grow in. The Sarracenia can really vary in size but I would assume they will take up more like 4” of space each.

@@California_Carnivores thank you. What would a non draining bog look like? Would I just fill it with tons of spag moss and perlite and plug the drainage wholes? Also thank you for giving me spacing as that can help me figure out how much would be needed.
