Just in case you don't know, Wanna say that this needs and must be understood in the right context (i.e.the whole New Testament and the Bible as a whole), it is true that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone (Ephesians 2, Romans 1-4...), but it is also true and crucial to understand that Christ calls everyone to repentance/180 degrees turning away from sin/self/the world and faith in His finished work on the Cross which makes salvation possible coz when we believe in Him, He give us His perfect rightiousness i.e. it is imputed on us as a free undeserved gift/grace, God the Father sees us as if we have lived Jesus's perfect sinless life and count us as innocent as Him even tho we are guilty for hell...coz He took and paid our debt/punishment willingly on that Cross in full for everyone who will truly repent and believe in Him... (Isaiah 53, Romans 5,6...) And you can know whether your salvation is genuine by the fruits of your life, i.e that faith will produce the right fruits.... Jesus said not everyone who calls Me Lord Lord will enter heaven... (Matthew 7) And also He said that, unless someone gets born again he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven (John 3), in other words if God truly saves you He will give you a new mind and new heart in spiritual sense, that will start to love His commandments and hate the sin which you once loved and for which Jesus died for and you'll start to love and grow in His holy things/the things He loves and are important to Him (obedience to His commandments, Christlike love towards everyone, reading Bible, prayer, fellowship with bratheren, evangelism etc) as described in His Holy Word (the Bible). [Romans 7&8, Ephesians 4&5, the book of 1 John....]

Repentance is absolutely necessary. Christ asks it of us when He saves us. However it doesn’t contribute to our salvation. He alone saves us. Without Him, you couldn’t be saved regardless of how much repenting you do. Basically, it’s this: repentance itself doesn’t save you, but Christ requires you to do it when He saves you.
