Before lockdown I remember seeing a guy at the gym jumping rope and thinking to myself: "I bet that is more difficult then when I was a kid", come lockdown I take it up and yes, it was WAY more difficult, but that is part of the appeal, the satisfaction as you get better is immense. I remember my first 100, my first complete song, working on cross-overs etc. 19 months later I am still loving it and it's still a core part of my workout. Great video, and well done on progress, mastering those tricks and footwork in 30 days is very impressive!! 👍

Another great video. You guys really do a good job of showing what realistic results look like and I liked the test at the end of comparing strength levels. I would love to see a video on the impact of isometric exercises on strength. Since Brendan works out a lot with weights, it would be interesting to see you measure your PR for a few different lifts before doing 30 days of only isometrics and what it looks like afterwards. Considering isometrics are really space efficient, beginner friendly and require pretty much no equipment, if you were able to get very good results from only doing isometrics, it would probably appeal to more people who are starting their fitness journey.

My go to cardio is jump rope. It's the best. It is hard at first but as long as you build yourself up incrementally over time you'll be smashing it very quickly. I use the same speed rope and its awesome. Always stretch out before and after, particularly calf muscles. Can't emphasize this enough. It makes a huge difference. I use a tabata timer app which as a beginner was 30 seconds jumping, 15 seconds rest. That built me up to where I now do 3.5min sprints with the rope combined with other HIIT routines and core work melded into a 1hr workout. Jump rope is always the foundation to keeping my heart rate high in between every set. Have never felt so fit and I don't have to leave my house!
@ted.angell760920 күн бұрын
Yes. It’s important to temper your enthusiasm and take it in small increments. I learned to stop and stretch after the first 20 skips, then after the next 20, three or four times. Your strength grows during rests, not during challenges, and you don’t get ahead by trying to do too much too soon.

*If this isnt * enough motivation to learn to* jump rope....* I documented 3000 skips per day for 90 days in a meticulous cinematically shot time-lapse video. Basically you get to see 20lbs melt off my body in 2 minutes through the “time-lapsed” magic. This project was a beast to complete :S Its finally published!

That bruised finger looked like it was about to gangrene and fall off. Ouch! Way to stick with to the end.

Just started jump rope and damn is it hard, lungs and calves burning after 30 secs!!! Plenty of mistakes so I knew I had to build up so I started with intervals of 40secs on with 20sec rest and work my way up to 10 mins and see how I go. I’d like to do tricks but focusing on just getting through with the basic bounce. Great video guys

Super excited to get started, just ordered my rope! I'm almost a year postpartum and have been looking for something like this - something to improve cardiovascular endurance and jumpstart the weight loss journey. Did you utilize the CrossRope app in your 30 day challenge? If so, did you find it helpful and was it worth doing the premium membership to access their workouts?

I didn't noticed that I watched the whole video without skipping, may be because of your honesty in video I'll again continue my jump rope journey from tomorrow Morning ❤

I have been jumping rope on and off for almost two years and I can say that those PVC ropes are good for beginners and will not leave marks even when you get whipped. But I guess you need to use crossrope since they're the sponsor. I'm so sorry that you got injured. But next time, just use a PVC rope until you get better to switch to cross rope.

The cheaper pvc ropes always tangle which is why ropes like crossrope is better

Good video. Nice footage, story, and narration. Plus training montage. Everything is better with a training montage.

It reminds me of when I set goals on the treadmill. Once I’ve accomplished that goal it becomes so much easier almost like I’m not in my head because of my need to meet a goal

When I started jump rope, I discovered that I get “runner’s high” which made me euphoric but also led to near disaster - I could do 45 minute sessions straight off the bat (with water breaks, I’m not a freak of nature lol). Turns out doing 45 minutes daily straight away is a *very bad idea!* The runner’s high was masking any pain and on week two, I suddenly realised I’d totally wrecked my knee by jumping for too long, too soon, on concrete, without a mat. Had to have two weeks with no jumping which was really frustrating. I think all the “I did the jump rope challenge for two weeks!” videos on here of people sailing through it with no bother led me to think it was a good idea to do it every day like that from beginner level. Barely any of those videos show what it’s actually like, but yours does and I’m so glad! No one shows getting whipped by the rope for example (I eventually started using cycling gloves because I kept whipping my hand which freaking HURT). This is a much more realistic portrayal because it shows the good with the bad. Thank you for not sugar coating the beginning stages and giving people the impression it’s easy or that you should just “man up” and push through every day. There’s a sensible way to go about it and it’s not by doing what I did, in a misguided attempt to be “consistent” like all the other videos show, when they’re failing to talk about the importance of rest and the risk of overuse injuries.

I can’t believe this comment doesn’t have any likes. Yes, ease your way into it. Trying to do too much to soon will just lead you into setbacks as you strain and injure yourself without realizing it at first. Honestly, though I applaud what the guy in the video accomplished, I don’t think most people should emulate his crash-course pace; a beginner should have a couple of rest/recovery days per week.
