It's really good and it taste like popcorn ,but without butter and it comes with different flavors such as Bacon, salt and vinegar, BBQ etc and it isn't hard to eat as long you don't think about it and focus on the flavor it's easy to eat

I had them in Mexico and they are great. They are best if you get them right after they moult their shell, so that they are more tender. Fried crisp, tossed with rice and wrapped in a tortilla with some lettuce, onion, tomato salsa and jalapeno slices. You bite into it and they are crispy but then give way to tender as you chew. I was thinking how good they would be with soy sauce, and I suspect they would be awesome tossed into some typical fried rice, right at the end of cooking, so that they stay crisp.

actually I don't think non-Asians do think it's cool at all, look at the number of comments compared to most videos. Most "whites" either attack it or avoid the issue altogether. My favourite is vegans who attack meat eaters on ethical grounds but ignore the insect option, which is actually more ethical still! (btw I'm "white" & I find the racism of attacking people who eat bugs just wrong & very backward!)

You can get depressed from vitamin deficiency. Bugs have vitamins and are cheap. I feel generally good after eating bugs, there's a bounce in my step even though my life isn't very good. And I know Mexicans are usually okay with bugs, so it should not be hard to get them to eat more bugs. Chapulines from Oaxaca are among the best tasting bugs, and you also have the agave worms. They're all good, so it should be easy to fix it there. Getting Americans to eat bugs is as hard as pulling teeth.

This could also solve a bit of Food Waste problem, as you could feed some of the food losses and wastes to these insects. Having them as an alternative to meat means also you won't import that much soy, corn, grain anymore (maybe we would completely stop eating meat) which mean that the world market price of corn, soy and grain wouldn't increase rapidly and people of developing countries could still pay the high price and they won't have to starve that much as they already do...

Good enough that I will be ordering some again. I will probably harvest my own this summer too. Once you get over the "bugs are icky" factor, it's all good.

Many species, yes. There's nothing inherently bad about them (except species with venom glands and such). For example locusts and mealworms can just be freeze-dried and eaten (though they don't taste that remarkable without preparation). Some species are even eaten live by some cultures, though I'm personally not up for that :P

Took the words right out of my mouth. Back when I was in vocational school; our most lunches could be summed up as: A fuckton of salt with the side of some heavily processed meat. I'm glad that they had a good salad-table. It's also quite funny how western people have no problem eating a beef with the label of 70% Meat, 26% parts qualified as meat, yet make very hasty parables comparing eating bugs to eating shit.

This amazing documentary does not suggest a blanket solution nor does it even imply that you ignore the problem of overpopulation. it simply offers a, dare I say superior, alternative to our current source of proteins. Look at the environmental impact of bugs vs. cattle: Compare the carbon footprint and the water necessary between the two. From a practical and economical stand point; compare the cost vs yield of raising crickets to cattle. -Brilliant!

UN wants humans to eat bugs, no problem, but, their reason is, we want to have land to farm. I raise mealworms and have been doing it for years. I even wrote a book. You need bedding, which in turn is their feed. That requires farming. All the bedding that is being used requires a lot of farming

For this idea to flourish, a practical approach would be to introduce crickets as part of the menu in Thai restaurants after approval from health department of course. Separate tables should be designated so as not to 'freak out' those less adventurous.

Nature provides them with a life of freedom and movement and food foraging, cramming them in a sack to suffocate, starve and slowly die is unacceptable just because they seem small and less sentient to us. People used to think that cows and pigs didn't feel and thus deemed themselves entitled to abuse them. This ignorant entitlement towards insects is just the same. If an animal is your food and keeps you alive you need to treat it with respect or you deserve to starve.

The hilarious thing about this film and the comments is that we are all talking about how people are used to eating processed foods and so they cannot bring themselves to eat insects and yet if you have eaten processed foods you have eaten a lot of insects already, as this food contains percentages of insects which they mark as Protein on the labels. I agree with Jim though, we need insect powders like in Europe and make more appetizing food like burgers or chips out of them, and add veggies! :)

"why are they dead"? when was the last time you threw a live pig in a skillet when you made your bacon and eggs? The problem with this type of video is that they show the creatures being eaten in a natural state. Most people in the west don't eat food in the natural state. We eat processed food. Turn this protein mass into a ground mass, mixed with buckwheat flour and spices, and fill a sausage skin with the blend and steam it and you have a very delicious and nutritious hot dog.

I think it is because our instincts says that insects may be dirty and infected with germs, since they crawl around in what ever. But the idea is real and interesting. As long as no one stops the madness of fast people growth we have to come up with things that is radical. But at one point the number of people is so large that no sein options will work anymore. That time we may start to eat each other
@msebalogh9910 жыл бұрын
I was hearing and therefore thinking more about entomophagy lately. It sounds like a reasonable solution to many problems. I find it really hard to convince people just to think about the amount of meat they consume every day, whether it is necessary at all. I think Europeans and Americans in general will not eat insects unless they have to. No way anyone can pursue more than a marginal minority of them. But a MUST will come at some point.
