2:41" :: "But no one was expecting such large scale trench warfare in the modern day"? nonsense, it was inevitable if Iraq and Iran were anything to go by. There are parallels between Putin's war today, and Saddam Hussein's own invasion of Iran more than 40 years ago. People don't seem to realise that mass assaults are possible only if the enemy has no weapons to repel them. And Ukraine has plenty of drones and antitank and anti-air defences, as few and depleted as they may be. Germany prevailed in 1940 only because the Allied expedition had no weapons to counter an armoured blitzkrieg - the Americans and Soviets could move in on Germany years later, only because the Germans were too depleted to resist. And even then, the Germans too built trenches in Italy after 1943 .... Germans in Italy had antitank weapons.....their Greek and Yugoslav enemies from years before had almost none. Entrenchment in Ukraine was inevitable, as was its currently protracted and stretched out nature, the moment both belligerents are roughly equal in terms of strength - Western news outlets all churned up these possibilities, and those that predicted that the matchup was far less weighted in Russia's favour as many expected have since then proven to be correct.

There are some mistakes: -Fab 500 is a weight class not a type of bomb it means 500 kg bomb. -Fab 500 M62 is not the new bomb its is just a more dynamically stable version of the normal fab 500. - Russian glide kit is reported to be called universal planning and correction module (УМПК) which is counterpart to the american JDAM-ER. - It has been reported to have been developed to work on several weight classes: fab 500, 250 and 1500. However, the most used one is the fab 500. - It is reported, too, that it may have been gone through several upgrade variants evidenced by different visual characteristics on its debris photographed by ukrainian soldiers throughout the previous months.

@@balaclavabob001 when did that happen? you must have confused it with the bombs that erroneously fell on belgorod region due to pylon errors, they fell on openlands and near (and inside) the city. It hasnt been reported that the russian developed a shorter range classic JDAM counterpart with nearly 30km, so it is unlikely that they would waste a 70-80km range bomb to strike a frontline position.

It depends on what we consider game changer. Its not the same as magic superweapon to end the war instantly. Neither did the missiles or Me-262 het fighter was for Nazi Germany in WW 2 - in itself, those could have been game changers and for a short and brief time, they did to some degree. In a long war like this its a continuos struggle of parties involved to gain the upper hand and also - make the sum of all parts big enough to win.

For my state most of what is covered is not in the standards or would take up more time than I can spend for what it does cover. Just playing video or even imitating the format is impractical the visuals and animations require time and experience most teachers do not have. Next administration will generally go ballistic with the idea of passive learning which is what this format is. Students need some sort of activity note taking worksheets etc. Given the general aversion to writing most students have combined with the speed of the audio, ( a huge problem when I try to play videos is that my students claim they speak too fast. ) yeah good luck. I was tempted to go on but I think this explains the major issues. I agree that history education is deeply flawed and can kill passion for the subject. I tell my students that I could make each unit last a semester, but I can’t so here is 8 hours about this cool thing plus 5 hours in class for homework and a project/paper. K&G has spent 8 hours on individual conflicts and I have to spread that around the entire history of the geo political entity All of this is to say that while the current system of teaching history is deeply flawed, current education norms are incompatible your idea is too time intensive, too technically complex and too incompatible with the present system of expectations.
@DeWellstein
@DeWellstein 10 ай бұрын
Well history is not as plain and frankly boring as human A battles with human B, using xyz. But I agree that history needs to be taught differently. In my opinion, history should be thought the following: What happened, why, what were the impacts on society et al., what do the sources say and where do they come from, looking at biases of the sources, relevance/parallels to modern times and its relevance today. That can more or less be done for every topic, improves critical thinking skills and actual understanding of what is currently going on and used to go on. Why this usually is not done? It is hard, lack of sources/school funding, difficult to efficienlty push into a unfortunately kind of narrow education plan :/

You don’t have to hit a main battle tank with this bomb to destroy it. A close hit with an artillery shell can take out a tank, at the very least disabling it. A 500 kg or a 500 lb pound hitting close (say five meters) to a tank will pretty much obliterate it and the crew. The armor penetrating capacity of this bomb is specifically for deep bunkers or installations with fortified concrete walls. It’s the same as western bombs.

What is needed for the modern day battlefield to increase combat effectiveness: 1) Localized integrated anti-drone capability on a platoon level for all armored vehicles, fully able to engage drones automatically and without endangering nearby forces. 2) Miniaturized smart munitions able to autonomously engage individual dugouts and infantry in a trench, preferably in the form of a cluster munitions. 3) Glide and guidance kits for all previous munitions, ranging from mortar shell to large scale bombs. 4) Ground-based drones able to move organically with friendly forces and engage enemy air assets or setup denial zones to prevent enemies entering a combat area. There is more but these are just what I could come up with at the top of my head.

You said the JDAM's free flight is 100 sec. What does that mean? Obviously the amount of time it spends falling/gliding will be dictated by the altitude and target distance so I'm assuming that isn't what "free flight" is referring to? Perhaps that is the amount of free fall time before it deploys its flight surfaces?

Remember seeing civilian GPS in multimillion dollar Russian fighter aircraft? The aircraft's navigation system should usually feed the pilot nav data and likely also feeds nav data to weapons packages. This would appear to be inoperable. There should be evidence if this were to be the case. Remember the bombs dropped on Belgorod? Why might this occur? Bad navigation data perhaps? One went off late, and the other never went off. Does this sound like possible timed fuse operation of a FAB-500? Add in NATO intelligence and EW, and the Russian FAB-500 is unlikely to make a real impact if it's even used much at all. The best part, what do you want to bet that Russian EW would also effect operation of the FAB-500?

The video does not point out WHY the scrap bombs are so usefull for russia. Most of the russian support fire coming from artillery are shot by heavy mortars or D30 guns. So if they spott UA infantery, the russians are able to send salvos after ~8min. Though when the first granade hits, it wont be accurate and UA infantery can easiely run away or get cover. The artillery grenades have a decent impact and spread shrapnels, but if the first hits are going to land meter away it does not affect the UA inf. This becomes different when you throw two 500kg bombs at them which detonate nearly simulatniously. Like they said in the video, in 100 meter range soft targets are highly damaged. Of course those bombs are more costly and you have the risk of losing a plane, on the other side its an effective weapon when you wanna be sure an area is "clear" now. Additionally, those bombs are way more easy to produce than JDAMs. So the russians will have a lot of them, plus north korea and china are using / producing the same kind of bomb. Also dont forget: 👇 UAs only mobile air defence, the french "Cortale" has a range of 20km. (24 pieces they have, but they were never seen yet) RU glidebombs droped at a range of 25-30km.

My jaw dropped as I learnt Native Americans population in their motherland, Continent of America before the European Colonizers arrived, was around 15 millions, while European population in their motherland, Continent of Europe was around 25 millions. Today, Native American population is 15 million, while the European population, in the Continents of America + Europe, is a staggering 'TWO BILLION'! It is a shockingly sad truth.. 😔

The usage of jdams in the 90es remind me of a story one of my Serbian roommates once told me. They wanted to go to the grocery store in a bigger town, went to the bridge they usually use: "oh, the bridge is gone, lets take a different route." Went to the next one: "Ah, this one is gone as well, ok, then I guess we will do a bit more sight seeing from the car today."

also seems while its est. the Russians have a LOT of FAB JDAMs, well it seems to to be used very much in the current war. Probably because many to most Russian aircraft are not equipped to use the FABs esp. the older numerous SU-25s Su-24s, SU-27s. also takes the Russians at great cost and time to convert older aircraft to use the FABs. Also many Russian aircraft are in poor condition due to poor maintenance overuse etc. that is why you dont see the Russian air force flying much. The Ukrs air force on the other hand with massive help from NATO is fast converting its aircraft to use JDAMs. in fact, the Ukrs have massive economic logistical and miltary backing from NATO while the Russians have a faltering economy. The combined GDP of NATO countries is 10X that of Russia. not factoring in other non NATO allied countries like Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia , New Zealand., Sweden.

Off topic but this is the first time since the war started that I have seen a video where they pronounced the Russian aircraft nomenclature in the American style, examples would be the Frogfoot and the Hip. When I was in the army we would pronounce them with the letters like, S U-25 or M I-8, whereas the Europeans pronounce them like a word such as Sue-25 or Me-8. I'm not saying either is bad but after years in the army, it felt good to hear them pronounced in a way I am comfortable with.👍
