Meowth maybe could have an actual chance to lose against him without freezing hax because Hitmonlee and Machamp could do severe damage with Hi Jump Kick and Submission while the latter would probably be 3HKO'd by Slash at best without significant over-levelling. Rhyhorn too could face similar issues while also having the chance to be Fissure'd by Machamp as it's one of the few pokemon that can actually be outsped by it at typical endgame levels. But then you can just Mimic Harden from the first Onix and do it six times, where then you have your Defense quadrupled and have your other stats boosted by X2.26, making your only chance to lose is the very unlikely scenario that you can't OHKO the Machamp and are hit by crit Submission. Just being able to Mimic Harden and use it six times for free off the starting Onix means any pokemon that maybe might be threatened by him is still going to have a free win.

14:41 ~ 16:55 I think this is my favourite example of the differences in the "intended play style" of the Nidoran. Female plays more defensively, lowering her opponent's power, and stalling the enemy out. Male plays more aggressively, using moves that will increase his damage output or using attacks that just have a higher damage output in general, brute forcing his way through the enemy.

i kinda feel like the battles with Erika somewhat show something relatively interesting. in particular where the extra hp and overall defensiveness, if the pokemon can actually take hit's well, while it might be slower due to their lower attack, more defensive pokemon even in solo situation are overall less vulnerable to rng based things like crits and sleep in paticular for gen 1. which is why i bring up the Erkia battles, because if Nidoran Male had gotten the longer sleep like Female did it likely would have been a failed attempt since Nidoran female has more hp (same special so hp is the only thing in play). I realize that prior to the E4 your not super concerned with consistency in these runs but it's a relatively important point that you seem to discount a lot. while i understand why you do. i just feel it needs to be said and recognized that even in solo situations there is some merit to defense. feel like this type of run putting all the major battles to your level of consistency that you give the E4 might be a bit more telling of the merits. but you don't and it's just fine. anyways sorry to have wasted your time with this pointless novella. great video as always.
@OmegaTyrant4 жыл бұрын
But then having the better Speed and Attack means the pokemon needs less levels to hit important benchmarks to outspeed and/or KO in less hits, where they then take less attacks and less chances to get statused, nullifying any advantage of being able to take an extra hit or two. Plus if you're dealing with the opponent having Sleep moves, if you're outsped they become a ton more dangerous with how Gen 1 Sleep works, making it vital to outspeed Erika's Victrebel and Vileplume. So if you want to argue about consistency with earlier fights like Erika. Nidoran Male still mostly had the advantage as it would require less levelling to hit the necessary benchmarks to win those fights with reasonable consistency.

@OmegaTyrant4 жыл бұрын
@@cubedmelons876 Blue's Blastoise still having Withdraw and his Zard still having Rage in the final fight is a big reason why his Venusaur team is usually his best team when you're neutral against all the starters, besides Blue getting a Gyarados with reasonably competent moves as soon as Pokemon Tower, his Venusaur isn't susceptible to getting screwed by random AI making it use useless moves (you might get a free turn with Solarbeam, but then if you can't KO or incapacitate it next turn you're taking a big 180 power attack that won't miss). With Gastly though Zard would have actually been the best for Blue since his AI would prevent him from using Rage and thus Zard can't waste turns like Blastoise does with Withdraw, but Gastly still stomps all the starters so it doesn't matter that much.

I wasn’t the only one to comment on Twitter that the upcoming “double feature” video was probably the two Nidorans, but yes, I was right! I haven’t commented much on these before - hard to find a lot to add to what JRose11 does and says in the videos - but they’re great stuff, and like many here, I tune in as soon as I see one, and remain gripped the whole way (though I do often have them as background listening, checking the video if I detect I’m missing information by not seeing it - just a byproduct of the length, but well worth the quality). Most impressive is how JRose11 keeps challenging himself. Not just to do more difficult challenges, though there is that. It’s how he, though committed to a 53-part Gen I Solo Challenges Series, keeps trying new things both here and in other gens. Whether to keep the channel fresh and not in danger of going stale, to take breaks from Gen I runs to prevent them moulding together for him, it’s impressive, his level of commitment and variety. But yes, great video here (my favourite part today was probably seeing the Female perform better then the Male in more areas then expected, and the time gap between the two at the end was not as bad as it might have been - defence does matter, kids!), and I’m as pumped as ever for the next one. Or whatever alternative challenge comes instead. Might I suggest Oddish and Bellsprout be done back-to-back, to compare the two version exclusives Grass-Poison weeds to one another? That could be quite interesting!

My god, I really hope you're doing something else privat aswell. I can only imagine who tired you are, of Pokemon (especially Gen 1 and 3) I hope you have a way to balance all the Pokemon in your life out, but anyway, I appreciate the content flow the past few months

I just cleared the weedle run, speaking of unscientific runs. It took about a week on and off with double speed. Theres literally 2 fights that are so ridiculously RNG-based that it's so unreasonable to attempt in a normal run. Add onto that you literally cannot KO Lorelei's Dewgong before it rests without 3 crit poison stings (you can also struggle three times to KO Dewgong but you're not getting through the other 4 mons on struggle alone)

I know that Weedle could not beat Blaine and Giovanni, but i'm sure he would destroy Bruno.

Well actually, Agatha is the hardest for Weedle, Jake McCaulay has beaten gen 1-5 with Weedle.

I notice that I always end up watching these right as I wake up and fall back asleep and on multiple occasions have had to watch these four or five times from start to begining because your voice lulls me back to sleep in that weird phase between being awake and asleep. I am not watching it while fully awake so I can absorb the content and enjoy it.

This is my favorite KZbin series at the moment. I've always taken my time playing Pokemon, catching 6 Pokemon as quickly as possible and always raising as many Pokemon as possible, but this got me to open back up my 3DS and try to do a quick run through Pokemon Yellow using just my Pikachu and Mankey (which I did let evolve into a Primeape)

I like this way of doing the challenge, seeing and evaluating the subtle differences instead of using them in the same run really showcases how even very similar pokemon can have a sense of uniqueness

I clicked the bell after last upload to get immediately notified at next upload. Did not get notified.... Clicked the bell again, and it says it's on 'personalised'... So apparently KZbin thinks that even after watching all the videos as they've come out lately, I still wouldn't be interested in knowing about this upload...? Well great, now it's on 'always' anyways, so now it will hopefully do the thing it's supposed to...

I don’t think I’ve met any KZbin challenge runner who is as masochistic as you. Love this series to death. Would love to see a Shellder run next, since Cloyster’s one of my favorite competitive Pokemon of all time

0:35 Nidoran-F also gets an exclusive move that Nidoran-M doesn’t learn, Growl! It’s definitely a game-changer and not at all mostly useless. Same with Focus Energy for Nidoran-M, which is even _more_ not mostly useless! Who even cares about Horn Attack when such an alluring choice like Focus Energy exists?
@petelee24774 жыл бұрын
Honestly growl did help against the self destructing hiker at rock tunnel. Granted reflect does the same thing but better as you saw with koga but he didn't have access to that move yet.

You say you don't get lucky but I kept shaking my head and saying, "wow, that was so lucky". To the point where I calculated the probability of that exact Agatha battle in which you didn't get a single confusion hit or Blizzard miss and the opponent used the best possible moves in all but one case as about 0.003310 (or 0.3% likelihood). Of course, that doesn't account for all the other possible good cases (I couldn't keep track of all the 1-p inversions) or the super-advanced comparative cases of, say, "how much worse is a Hypnosis than a Night Shade on arbitrary turn t?" (which would require algorithmically constructing a minmax or equivalent game/decision tree) _or_ the quasi-continuous maths of ranges etc. But it still makes a point. I think you should probably show at least a few of the many failures _before_ the lucky victories on all your runs: maybe one or two from any particularly hard gym leader and two or three from each Elite Four member (or more if it's an insanely difficult fight). That'd made it more obviously reasonable. I understand it's more editing work but in terms of actual raw video playtime, you could zip through most of the failures at 600% speed, adding only ~5 minutes to the total. I think most people would much prefer that. This video was the first time I actively thought to myself that you weren't showing enough losses: you usually do. Particularly at the E4, I was wondering, "why aren't we seeing a single one of these pre-level-up/pre-Rare Candy attempts?". Your videos are typically fantastic but this one wasn't up to that usual standard, despite the solid conceit of comparing the Nidorans H2H. Of course, I've seen videos in your solo run collection since this was published in 2020 that _don't_ have the same problem, so I'm probably bitching about something that isn't even an issue anymore.
