I'm not a hypocrite of a fake. I proudly I admit I have many Rolex fakes. For $700 on average for high end fake, how can you go wrong. The guy in the video has trouble telling them apart with both there and him looking hard; for less than 3k I own 4-5 awesome watches and no one knows they are fake but me. They tell the time so who cares. If one gets stolen, broken, who cares? While you laugh at me, I laugh harder at owner of real Rolex. Not really. There are other things that he didn't hit on too. Such as the date window or cyclops as its properly called is 2.5x mag on a genuine rolex. Forever and always. On fakes they certainly CAN be, but often they will be 1.5x or simply half again as large. Even some of the really good fakes have this flaw and it's a dead giveaway when you look to see how small the date indicator actually is by looking at a angle under the cyclops. Its pretty small. The laser etching as he mentioned is actually a much more pronounced and noticable flaw, and can really be detected without a loupe, if you ever happen to have seen the genuine article, there's no way to miss it. If you haven't actually just gone and looked at real watchesto see what they look like and are buying at street level or private sale, then you arent really trying to buy a watch you are trying to buy the prideful feeling or having bought something way below its market value. You dont care about the watch itself so much as you do about being able to say, yeah I got this at like 10% of the cost. And or just the feeling of having gotten over on someone either by their ignorance or desperation. So if that's how you are buying you deserve what you get. It's totally cool to buy preowned, though it's not really how I would do it except in cases where it can literally not happen any other way, but if you dont care enough to actually be able to tell, you shouldn't really be that upset when it turns outit's fake, because, of course it's fake, rolexes ain't cheap. I mean really why would someone with 3 rolexes that they can literally pawn for 8 to 1500 each if they are the most entry level model and kinda dinged up be selling them on the corner of main and 5th for 300 each? Makes no sense. They can easily go to a shop and make 6 to 10x or more? 900 vs 4500? Even if they were selling them for 1/5 the cost of a 5k watch they could easily make 1.5 more selling at a shop. You have a pristine 5k watch you can flip that on predatory terms at a shop for 1.5. because someone will absolutely drunk buy a 5k watch for 3k and the shop makes double their money back. It's real simple economics. People who tell stories of selling a 7k watch for 500 to a shop are either lying because it didn't happen or they sold a 50 dollar fake to a chump for 10x the cost. Or they had a 7k watch that their dad bought in the army 50 or so years ago for 1k because that what it cost then, and he wore the heck out of it. Replaced the band, face and crystal, which usually destroys the resale especially for people who want collectible watches, then, then passed it down and the guy selling the watch also worked the heck out of if and hasn't kept it serviced and the cyclops is all dinged up now and the shop keeper is looking at a watch of a model that today new sells for 7k, but this one with no box or papers or anything, while actually genuine, due to its year and differences in production today vs original, at best in optimal circumstances sells for about 4k. And this will never be optimal because it's not and likely CANNOT be made original because the original parts are lost or discarded. As it sits before he can even sell it at his standard, he has to order a crystal, a new bracelet or band, the have someone refurb and clean then service the movement and probably put a new crown on. So after spending 500 on it, hes gonna be real lucky to get it set right for less than 500 more. And his max blue sky hope for resale is gonna be 2k. So yeah go look at a few real watches and see what they look like. Put on a nice pair of shoes that look like you shined them and wear a suit and go to a zales or Jared or other 'fine jewler' and ask to look at a few nice pieces. Pick them up. Examine the clasp. See how it works. I bet the fakes dont feel as smooth when they operate. Note the finish on the edges of surfaces and corners. Listen to the watch, notice if you can still feel the movement working even if you eyes are closed. This costs nothing but will save you buying a fake. Which will save you if you ever do have to walk into a pawn shop and sell something so you can make rent. There's probably few feelings worse than being desperate enough to sell something like that and then being told by someone who knows that it isnt real and that not only is it not worth much but that they cant even legally sell it so they obviously cant buy it.

I work on devices and part of my job is to determine if the parts being repaired have been previously tampered with or are third party parts all together. I was able to tell which Rolex one was the fake in most side by side comparisons due to the craftsmanship, but wow, this would be hard to determine if you ONLY had the fake. Awesome video!

He really didn't do his usual good job of demonstrating the advantages of the real so it made the fake look much better than it really is. Plus he played a little loose with how close the fake is to the real. This was geared more toward the novice who might be tempted to buy a 'good deal' because he thinks hes getting over on someone or is getting something really nice. They ARE very close IF you dont look close, or dont know enough about the real ones to be able to tell the real thing. For instance for a long time the secret service never studied fake money for their training. They did do it to forensically determine how something was made or if it was similar to other examples and might help determine who made it or if two examples were made by the same person. But for training in identifying fake money, they only studied REAL money. And they studied it. They made copious notes about every little feature. Weight, average dimensions, texture, little tiny details that are hard to notice and therefore hard to duplicate or easy to omit, the smell even of real money and its durability. They know what the margins of error in the production of money is. So its variance in any one particular feature. In this way, they don't have to ever worry about confusing the properties of fake and real money. They only know what real money is like. If an example is RIGHT, it's wrong by default. For instance if the ink easily smears, it's wrong. Because real money doesnt do at. It DOES smear when rubbed, but only when vigorously so, if it smears easy, it's fake. Smearing correctly doesnt meanit's real, because it can be duplicated, but failing the test makes it fake. And they use multi factor authentication for this not just two or three. Thet dont use the detector pens at all other than to write cute little notes to each other. The pens work off a reagent that reacts with starch that's in paper. Money is made of cotton and other fibers. It contains the starch but not in a reactive form. Both are cellulose, but differently processed. But you can get paper treated to where the starch content is so low as to not turn the reagent. And you can apply starch to real money to get a false positive. It useless. But now like here, they do have to study in training some of the more high quality fake money because it's so good and so close that if you give it a even multi factor authentication it will pass. The test has to be very high resolution. Some of the stuff that comes out of China is actually higher quality money than the real thing. Imagine declaring something counterfeit because it's better than the original! This is also one of the reasons we only have a 100$ bill and nothing higher commonly produced after a certain year. It's too much money in one note if it were to be mass produced as a fake. The rolexes arent quite to this point yet though, you can do certain thing for the most part worn just your natural 5 senses to avoid being taken I and so far for the majority of casesremove removing the back will tell the real story

I found they are priced to high for what they are offering, which at the same time makes it profitable to produce fake ones. So actually it is the same story as with the rolex watches.

I hate to say this but at $400 it does rather show up how crazy Rolex pricing has become! Of course I would never condone a fake and don't see the point, much rather have a watch from a proper brand as I know the fake is a fake and it would feel weird wearing it but truthfully this video to me shows up more how crazy Swiss luxury pricing has become for what you get than how good fakes have become. I have a Sea-Gull with one of those automatic movements ( probably the same movement the faker has purchased from Sea-Gull) the ruddy thing runs at chronometer time and is very very reliable. The days of knocking the Chinese watch industry are I think over as this fake shows!

Rolex changes the dial spacing/kerning all the time. It's not a very good way to determine authenticity. My 114060 (no date) has spacing as seen on the original in this video. A friend of mine has an 116610 (date) that has the spacing as well, but his Father's 116610 has no spacing - both bought at the same AD. Font type and 'boldness' also changes quite regularly. They're all over the place, so take that into consideration if you're buying second-hand.

I see a lot of people here saying Rolex is overpriced or Why not just buy the fake, they're virtually the same. Here's why both of those opinions are wrong. First off this is a tool watch, meant for diving, try to take the fake diving, I guarantee you it is not properly sealed and if it is I guarantee it won't make it close to the depth of a Rolex. It is true that rolex have appreciated and become more expensive and have out-matched inflation, that is because they have rebranded, to survive the 1970 quartz watch revolution they had to rebrand, that obviously doesn't account for all of it but they have also continually upgraded materials as well I.E. Ceramic bezel and 904L Steel the volatility of these materials has changed throughout the years and is also in direct correlation with price increases, the fake would get scratched to oblivion compared to 904L steel btw. What makes a rolex is the movement, thats the heart of the watch as us watch lovers would say, this movement will outlast you, the same can't be said about the fake, I doubt it would last more than 5-10 years. Here are the two kickers that show the real value of fine timepieces to me, in this example, Rolex. 1. You can buy a Rolex Submariner for full price today and get damn close to that back if you wanted to sell it tomorrow, they are great investments in that they keep their value more than even most cars. 2. This one is most important to me, being such fine timepieces made with such precision they will outlive you, you can wear this watch everyday and beat it to pieces and still give this watch to your children and one day with proper maintenance and care they could very likely give it to your grandchildren, it becomes a family heirloom. There is no way in hell you could say the same about the fake, and thats the true value behind fine watches, not the brand name.

lol i bought a fake from china for $80. its MUCH better than this fake, the one i got is a GMT2 and i put it next to a genuine from a friend, and he was shocked and pissed off (he paid 8k euro for the real one) only problem we found with the fake one i have, the mechanic is much louder!!! but all other things are same or almost the same, you really need a frikking microscope, and about the paint and the dials etc, the one i got, is even under a microscope good, so not like the one shown in this video that is badly painted. anyway, i bought mine for fun, i can easily buy a genuine one, but to be honest i wont, because 99% of the rolexes are fake, even if you buy a genuine one, people will still say its fake, or is it fake, i dont believe you etc.

Off switch, stop talking shit.... GMT master II is cal.3186, its much harder to replicate than the cal.3135 from the submariners. Chinese factories are trying to replicate it but its a timebomb. You just think it is much better because you dont know anything about watches, but i can guarantee you it is garbage. Just to make sure your watch is trash, check out its hand stack, the genuine GMT hand stack order from bottom to top is: Hour hand, GMT hand, minute hand and second hands. If the hour hand is above the GMT hand than its wrong and 99% of the replicas are wrong unless they changed the movt with a modified YUKI.

I read a couple hundred comments and didn't run across the one reason I still have to buy genuine. Rolex created that brand. That styling is their invention and buy a fake is like stealing someone's product and reputation. It's like running pirated software. Yeah, it doesn't do direct harm, but if everyone did it, those companies would go out of business. There are companies that make beautiful, wonderful watches that work great at a reasonable price. Want a really nice automatic movement? A Powermatic 80 in a Tissot will cost you very little but looks and works great. And it's genuine. Want a nice thin watch? How about a Skagen or a Citizen Stiletto? Something that keeps great time? I have two Casios that keep better time than many Swiss watches I've seen. You can be genuine and honest and stylish and frugal all at the same time. What is the point of being fake? I like watches. I'm a collector with about a dozen watches I wear in rotation. But I'm not made of money so my collection leans more toward Citizen (6) and Casio (2) than Piaget (0). I'd love an Altiplano skeleton but I can't afford it, so there are much cheaper alternatives that are quite nice. Genuine alternatives, not fakes. I think the most compelling reason not to buy a fake is that makers of fakes are tarnishing the reputation and brand of someone who worked hard to create something that you want.

It's luxury and it will always be overpriced in a way because its aim is not to deliver good value for money. That is also the reason why these fakes are made and bought. The Rolex brand is so synonymous with luxury, exclusivity and high prices many less wealthy people are prepared to pay a lesser price to obtain a fake and steal a bit of that image. And that brand image would not exist if you could buy a real Rolex for 100$.

Now you can get the SH3835 movement which replicates the Rolex movement, and is compatible with genuine parts! People usually stick with the A2824 movement in the fake as they are more reliable and cheaper to service.

@Genes but the waiting lists and higher and higher prices are the reason why fakes are getting so good. Rolex shot themselves with "hard to get" game. Just fake 114060 and 116610 business is in hundreds of millions of dollars. Chinese are very smart. Their is some serious money in those fakes.

@benvolio mozart as long as AT remains available and priced fairy there will be no market to make clones. Apple figured it out as well, when they started to make iPhone "unavailable" "hard to get" people were so tired they couldn't get the iPhone they just went and bought Samsung or Huawei. This idea that you control the supply to make higher demand was good, 20 years ago, but today, it is an insult to the buyer, and buyers don't like to be insulted. So Rolex caused all the damage to itself, better for Omega. Omega will win in the end.

I just picked up a 114060 from a AD last week. No regrets. It's nice knowing I have a genuine Rolex watch that will last years and I can eventually pass it down to someone.

Ehm on my rolex submariner 116610, the numbers on the bezel look painted on, but everything else checkes out. Should i be worried?

The fake breaks in a year or less. It's all about showing off, no quality whatsoever. You lose hundreds of euros to lie to yourself and pretend to be someone else to others. You absolutely don't understand the value of things and how a watch like a rolex can be wear for life and given to your kids. It's also a jewelry which should translate labor and savoir faire.

4 years ago I bought a real rolex and also bought the exact same model in fake, both at around the same time, now I still have both of them working just fine, the real one was £7,750. the replica was £250

The issue with the fake ones is if they can convince a buyer they are looking at a genuine one is BUT OFFERED AT THE PRICE OF A GENUINE ONE. Where possibly even the seller thinks they are selling a genuine one.
