Tip from mycology: modify the lids of the PP deli containers with a 1/4" hole then cover with 3M micropore tape before sterilising them to create a sterile ventilation port. This will help with condensation in your jars.

I would love if you could talk about how to get rid of plant viruses though tissue culture. I know that it is possible but I´m not sure how exactly it is done. I´m interested to know if it would be possible to get rid of the cactus x virus

Good suggestion! I believe that when Pelargonium was first being virus indexed they would be placed in growth chambers where the plants could be pushed into super fast growth. The idea being that the fast apical growth would outpace the advancement of the virused tissue, and that tip could then be excised for TC. It maybe had to be done more than once? I'm sketchy on the details

I've been collecting corps flowers for the past 4 years now. I have bulbifer, vulgaris, paeoniifolius, and konjac. Vulgaris is the only one that's been blooming every year. The other one's just keep getting bigger and bigger (vegetatively) every year and have pupped across their beds, but no flowers from them. I'm looking forward to purchasing Titan Arum next, hopefully I can get it from you when it's available on your shop? Also, can you see about TCing the rarer/endgangered plants in the wild like spiritus sancti or even peyote? I think they're also interesting enough that you wouldn't have a problem selling them either. Thank you so much to you and your channel for lifting the veil and sharing these techniques.

I wonder if you ever plan on doing cultures of freshwater aquarium plants, they are high value plants especially the rare ones. Also, aquatic mosses would be interesting to do tissue culture on.

All I can say is thank you so much for this video. I’m going to give it a shot with my shattered glass. And my titan hybrids. I'm starting to think I need to try tissue culture for the first time using my first try at Sunrise Bumblebee tomato plant. I think I might bring in a cutting as well and leave under 24hr LED cool white I'm thinking, though I've not grown in so long I need to double check optimal cost effective light color range in the blue.

Going back to my chemistry days and working under a flow hood, my professor always told us to close the hood as much as possible and to work looking through the window with only the arms through the opening as it made the hood "more efficient" not sure if that's true, just what he used to tell us?!

Hi Laur, your question got me thinking than I thought about the question: Can coral plants be tissue-cultured, even exposed to air? I've heard it's possible! Now, I'm curious if we can mix plants somehow during tissue culture to make hybrids? I am 181cm... do I win? 😛😝😄 🙂🤯😉

Not sure of the significance of tissue culture vs cuttings but there is a bloke in SA Australia that has successfully grown cuttings from an A.Titanum all the way through to flowering. So definitely possibly

@@plantsinjars definitely worth a try. If it’s the same guy, he has over 100 successful cuttings, generally using healthy “leaf and stem” tissue along with rooting hormone to promote a bulb to form. Either way a very cool process to try out!

I really didn’t know tc was a thing until finding your channel a couple off hours ago. I’m kind of confused about why this is like a thing? Why not plant seeds or use a clipping? I know it’s good for house plants and tropical plants but I see people talking about vegetables and other plants. Idk I’m a bit confused about what the benefits are to tc. And where it is mostly used these days. Like could you tc a type of beneficial fungi that could create a healthy soil? I feel very dumb I’m a product design student this is a whole different world.😅

It may seem boring but what about grasses like Karl Forrester or Purple flame(not fountain) grass that have sterile seeds and slow to grow and divide. For someone that wants to plant 20' drift a grass this could be quite valuable.

Lol, it takes between 3 and 6 months to do a nodal tissue culture to raising the plant sterile to culture from. It takes longer if the plant has a virus. If it has a virus and you must go from meristem it can take 6 months to a year. Some plants and some viruses it is better off throwing the plant away and destroying it because of the risk, even cleaning it of the viroid coming back at a future date and reinfecting the rest of your plants. Testing should be done on the plant before the tissue culture process even starts. To remediate HLVd for example can take a year , sometimes more with even constant testing after the plant is cultured clean to make sure it does not come back. This process cost at least 8000 normally and more sometimes.

Yes you can grow and plant but you really shouldn't you would never really do this in a real application, the time it would take to properly grow a clone, or even keep a growing sample size for research your better off outsourcing then growing a deathbloom from tiny cultures. kuttos for hitting 20k though
