This episode is the definition of desperation. The way everyone keep on helping each other, running, trying to survive, and they get cornered every time, beaten down. It's like you're running from a huge tsunami. You know it's coming behind you, it's fast and deadly and will reach you and take you out, your heart has dropped down to your stomach, it's like someone poured cold water over you and you want to cry but everything is stuck in your throat, a sensation of thousand needles pricking at your body, and the only thing you can do is run pointlessly, feeling utter fear and desperation and worry for your loved ones. And then you are just washed with cold acceptance as you stop and stare right in death's eyes. In this case, literally, as Acno is right there xD and you cling to the last sliver of hope, giving your all to unite in a last attempt at saving yourself and your family. The music makes it even more eerie. I can literally feel the suffocating tension and desperation in my stomach. I've watched this anime tons of times and every time this episode makes me cry. Absolutely brilliant.

Zeref run down:. The more he values life, the more he cares= the more life his body snuffs out. He cares and doesn't want people to die, so his power auto-kills. So, to protect life, he exiled himself. But now he doesn't give a 🤬 about the lives of others, so he can be around people and control his power fully.

No I think it was makarov perfect moment to die, against the strongest of the world for his family, leaving his duty as a master to his grandson. That would have been the perfect end for his journey. However Mashima, who admitted he doesn’t like to make his characters die, was even forced by his editor to make the story more joyful and less dramatic, I think because of the anime censorship too (especially gray vs Lyon and Gajeel vs natsu that in the manga wee brutal af and full of stabbing and cutting) the anime got a lot of children interested in the story and so he had to hold himself back a lot even in the manga. He admitted that he never wanted to “save” Lisanna, because her death gave natsu a greater depth as a character, but his editors forced him to find a way and so he invented that bullshit anime vortex that shifted her into the other world when he was drawing Edolas saga.
