Just a heads up for people with guide on posts....drill a small hole in the center of the top cap if you have them.This will allow air to escape when submerging and they won't float away. Also if the post's that came in the box are too short go to a plumbing or big box store and get two 10 foot sch 40 pvc pipes and cut them longer than the ones that came in the box. make sure the new one's are at least 3 ft or more above the rub rail of the boat. Each boat is different so go to the ramp at a non busy time put the new pipes on and back the boat down to see the correct length of pipe you will need. Hope this help's.
@michaelh75273 жыл бұрын
Or you could just secure the guide poles with a single bolt.
@oldjohnnyrude84043 жыл бұрын
My guide on poles are just open PVC pipe with no caps. The caps just trap air and cause them to do what happened here. Mine are also held on with a bolt and double nuts to act as a pin to keep them on the brackets. The trailer was obviously way too deep in the water, but had the guide ons been installed differently he wouldn't have ended up in this much of a pickle.

My whole life I've owned many 4wd trucks now and honestly you'd be surprised how many don't actually work. So 9 times out of 10 when you see this, 4x4 doesn't work and we never fix it because literally this is about the only time you'll ever need it in FL LOL. One of my trucks I had the same thing happen but the tide was so low the algea growth was making my truck slide in father with just the e brake . I had to hold the brakes to lock the front (only thing from keeping my truck slide in) as someone pulled me out via strap (boat wasn't powerful enough to push my one ton out). My front diff took a shit on me because GMs AAM axles SUCK and are nothing but problems. Two out of three of my GM trucks 4x4 hasnt worked. Between the actuator's, CV axle splines being stripped, the T-case chain wearing holes in the housing. My ford's have been much better to me, can't beat dana axles. Only thing ever gave me problems was the lockers which I bet was this guy's problem which is notorious on those 7.3s they had garbage vaccum lockers compared to 11+

I suggest all new boater spend one day at the boat ramp just watching, as well one day (a slow day) ...During the week just leap frogging your boat on and off the trailer and in and out of each spot. Get a system, run a check list and keep doing it. If it starts to rain keep doing it. If the wind picks up keep doing it. Just keep doing it until it becomes second nature. Do not hold people up at the ramp do this during the week on a shitty boating day. Take a friend and have them stand by on the boat to prevent scratches but try to do as much as much as you can by yourself. If and when the doc master approaches you explain yourself. Tell him you want be as efficient as you can that's why you picked a slow day. He will most likely direct traffic away from you and appreciate your effort
@stevewilliamson85263 жыл бұрын
Yea that is a good idea but most people are not going to take your advice but what I did was take my boat down a deserted road and practice backing it/turning it around/but the real reason was my back brakes needed adjusting and if you back up while pushing the park brake peddle up and down while backing it it will adjust your parking brake and you wont role into the water when you are unhooking the boat with a standard trans. @Antonio Montana weirdly most of the trucks in the South and Texas are 2wd bc they don’t have to drive in snow or anywhere you’d need 4wd- as opposed to the PNW or Midwest where it’s basically essential… we deal with snow a lot and do a lot of off-roading lmao
@paulhunter96132 жыл бұрын
@@Ccccc5558 I’ve lived in the Midwest driving a truck for 42 yrs where we get a good amount of snow and never had a real need for a 4x4. A limited slip differential, good tires and some weight in the bed will get you thru an 8” snow easily. And in my area they will have the road plowed down to pavement within 8 hrs even in my last 14” snowstorm . Most times the county will enact a level 3 warning, if you are out driving in that they will give you a healthy ticket. I never felt the need to drive my trucks off road in the mud or snow I guess, especially with a truck that costs $60K now
