@Asier Etxeberria Irastorza Then it’s even worse than a plot hole. It’s a literal non conflict.
@andrewshandle3 жыл бұрын
@Asier Etxeberria Irastorza this isn't exactly true. Every wish exacts a price, but the reason previous societies fell to the stone was that too many people wished for selfish things and wouldn't take them back or renounce them, thus destroying themselves and their surroundings. Honestly, all it took is just a few people at the end of this movie to say "You know what? Screw what this person is saying, I still want to nuke my enemies so no, I won't renounce my wish" and it still all falls apart and everyone dies. The entire script was a massive mess.
@AlquimistEd3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewshandle You're all missing the point made by focusing on the wrong kind of wishes like "I still want to destroy my enemies". That's not the actual problem with that scene. While wanting revenge, or money, or fame or to destroy your enemies can easily be categorized as selfish wishes, there are many wishes that in a real life scenario would happen that you can't so easily categorize that way. Imagine that some of the people that have children with diseases that give them incredible pain everyday, or people that are abused and sold to slavery(which still happens today btw), people whose family is too poor to afford enough food and are dying of hunger, or even people that are simply compassionate. If they all got their wishes to simply be able to give a decent life to themselves or others who need it how can the movie convince us that all it takes is some random lady on tv to basically say "hey stop being selfish" and they would all give up those wishes? It doesn't make any sense and you honestly couldn't blame them for not doing so.
@andrewshandle3 жыл бұрын
@@AlquimistEd No, I don't think we're missing the point because I think you are arguing a different point than anyone else is. The entire script around the wishes is just bad. It's poorly thought out and not logically consistent, because there are either people who made non-selfish wishes or there are people who made selfish wishes and wouldn't take them back. A script doctor would have changed the script to be that the second Max Lord renounced his own wish it would have automatically cancelled everyone elses (assuming they wouldn't just change the entire third act entirely). As we've learned in 2020, counting on the good will of everyone to do anything is not even remotely realistic, so the entire "resolution" of the movie makes no sense. Bad script is bad, not much reason trying to justify the unrealistic way people reacted in it.

I hadn't watched any trailers, so after Steve died in the first movie, and Diana had been living in our world for decades at this point, I was excited to see how SHE would do things this movie without Steve guiding her constantly. And then they just....instantly bring him back. And then he has to teach her how to fly. And find out where Lord was going. And fly the getaway plane. And convince her to let go instead of it being her choice. Maybe I just loved the first WW movie so badly I’m overlooking things but I actually found the sacrifice pretty deep. Yes Steve makes the decision because he’s been dead for decades now, he knows he doesn’t belong in the world but Diana has held onto him unable to get past it. When he first suggests she revokes her wish she denies it immediately but it’s only once Diana herself gets her ass handed to her it’s a quick decision, it shows that the moral from the gauntlet scene is still in her head; that getting what you want doesn’t matter if it isn’t actually real, and it serves the purpose of showing her start to finally let him go. Yes Steve is the one that mentions it, encourages it even, but she has to give her free will and say the words to kill him. It’s his encouragement of letting him go that is the same reason she fell inlove with him in the first movie, he knows the world needs her and he’s already a dead man, to keep him means she can’t defeat Cheeta or Maxwell and actual living people die. It shows Steve will always be the one strong enough to sacrifice himself but it’s to preserve Wonder Woman’s place in the world so she can contribute to saving more lives. At the end, Steve got his wish and didn’t have to revoke it. He wished they had more time, and their 84 adventure was a gift. She doesn’t even stand to watch him fade because deep down as soon as she says she revokes the wish and loves him, she takes off running to symbolize that she’s spent almost 40 years now lingering in that moment, the sprinting was finally getting past that stage of grief and back to focusing on the world that needs her.

Meh, they've gone through the whole possession stuff a lot and I think they didn't do enough with it. Sure, they did more than here, but it still felt like they dropped the ball for some conflict. I don't want to turn this into a big rant about SPN (could do that all day) but stuff like s9 (spoiler) when Dean tricks Sam into letting Gadreel possess him. Sam, who's been possessed by both the demon Meg and _Lucifer himself._ I don't feel like there was enough consequences for Dean in letting Sam, who probably has some buried issues with being possessed, be possessed by another angel. Idk, this was just one example. There's also the whole stabbing demons with Ruby's knife or angel blade and killinh the host all the time, which was brought up for a split second with Sam's powers allowing him to exorcise demons safely, which Dean doesn't even consider for a second if memory serves. Idk, just a couple examples where I think they could have pushed it further. They definitely did better than this movie, but that's not saying much, esp. considering when SPN had 15 seasons compared to this one single movie, yet still relatively (imo) dropped the ball in that department as well.

The plot could have been a story of how Diana came to term with acceptance. Accepting her loss of Steve while finally understanding that she cannot keep holding on to the pain of the past. It should have never had "villains," because the villain would be HER WISH. Her being egotistical and didn't understand at first that it's not just Steve that she saw but also someone else. She would gradually investigate who this man is because there's many clues that suggest that something is off with "Steve." It would've been still very heartbreaking too, but it would be a story of Diana. Not having any extra plot of another man seeking revelation from his child or another woman seeking validation from others. It would've been JUST her, Diana. The Wonder Woman. How much it would hurt to lose Steve for the second time, but AT LEAST they meet again. That also could help with the revelation of this actual guy whose body Steve inhabited for a few weeks perhaps. Diana could gradually build a new friendship, and possibly, a new romantic interest if they want. Anyway, I was fond of the movie. I hope that the similar bright tone will be in another movies with better plot.

The dream stone plot could still work with just her. Maybe the stone could grant as many wishes as you can ask but as she keeps wishing for more, she loses more and more too leading to her to continually lose her humanity and becoming a cat like being. She can use to the stone to grant other people's wish too resulting to chaos just like in the film. She can even be the one in the climax of the film instead of Max Lord that has to renounce her wishes before she becomes a full blown animal. Max Lord is really not interesting and unnecessary when they could have done so much with Cheetah. Two villains is just too crowded for this film and I can't believe they went for Max Lord as the main villain.

You slowly learn his ambition with power in a sensible way, not just rush it at you expecting you to understand. You see how big of a threat he is and see him as a three dimensional villain. If you check ninjago season 6 on netflix, you'll see what I mean. Its impressive how they pulled it off and how well written it is. Steve's reappearance took me and my friend completely off the track (not that we were that absorbed into the movie in the first place...). We were like, who is this guy? What's his sexuality? Does he have a girlfriend or boyfriend? Married? Family? What about his job? Did Steve go into work for him? Does he have STDs? WHAT?!!! I mean, if it's a wishing stone, then it could be within the stone's power to just give him his own body. Or maybe the screen writers just want to show that Diane would recognize Steve in whatever form...

In the film when she and Steve are flying to Egypt and she’s trying to make the plane invisible, she tells him that her dad taught her and her siblings how to do it, one she didn’t know she had any siblings and, she didn’t know who her father was, and in the first film she was raised by the Women on the Island! So good job to the genius who wrote the second film script!

Correction. That's not how the dialogue went. Diana said "My father (Zeus) hid Themyscira from the world and *I've been trying to learn how he [made things invisible]*. And in 50 years I've only done it once." She doesn't explicitly say she was taught by Zeus. Also, in Wonder Woman, Ares tells Diana that she's the "godkiller" that Zeus gave to the Amazonians, revealing that she is his daughter. I don't know how you missed this because that was a major plot point in the first film.

It's clear the "possession" thing was solely to get the emotional scene where Diana sees a stranger transform into Steve. I guess they couldn't find a compelling way to just re-introduce Steve from "thin air". The implications weren't thought about too much.

WW, a warrior from a land of women, being bisexual (as is already cannon with her comic lore), and Barbara pining for her affection but losing it to Steve upon his return and growing increasingly jealous of the both of them enough to become villainous; then WW has to give up on both Steve AND Barbara at the end... I do think there was an implied aspect of Cheetah that you didn't catch (/it was not explained well enough). It was not that Barbara was like suddenly like "I want respect and power" --> "I want power at the point to kill people". While fighting and seeing Barbara's viciousness, Diana explains that the wish takes your precious aspect from you as a price and she asks Barbara what it's taking from her and is it worth it. I think based on how we saw Barbara being sweet, like giving her food to a homeless friend, wanting to be nice and friendly with her new co-workers, I think they were going for her price being her love and compassion, which is why she was growing meaner and meaner after she got her Diana powers.
