I love the concept of skills helping the curated format, if Konami was to make emulators similar to duel links in the future it would be fascinating to see a deck-master esque take on that idea and how it could impact a meta with a shallower card pool. But I am just spitballing, the odds of Konami making a duel-links esque game without it being exactly duel links 2.0 is nigh impossible.

I think they attempted that with Cross Duels and the failure of that was catastrophic for the idea

I liked your insight into a game I've never played, but I had interest in getting into it from time to time. Also, the jokes were good, voice was smooth as usual, but none of the compares to your visual gags and choices of what to put on screen. (Seems I'm going to be saying this on every video at this point, but it's still worth pointing out) I like how even when you didn't have a card to put on screen, you didn't just leave an ambient background or a static avatar in 1 place, were moving it around the screen. You weren't moving too fast or junky, just nice little pop ins and poo outs. Your passion for video making has given you a dedicated fan! Keep up the good work.

Duel Links sounds fun until you realize the only good decks are ever whatever anime deck the devs want to push at the time. I occasionally look at the tier list and soon after the introduction of links the entire thing is nothing but anime decks with skills that are longer than most card text.

It's more that way now than it used to be after generic skills went a little too far and they felt the need to curb them, but it's still good for what it is.

Skills can be annoying but there's been a lot of top decks in Vrains that didn't rely on a character: Orcust and Mekk-Knight ran their formats for months. Salamangreat and Gouki have perks from their characters having level-up cards but were not exclusive.

Not in the community no, honestly it's one of my regrets in Yu-Gi-Oh that I didn't step up in dlm more, obviously I used the site aggressively like we all did but I haven't been like a TPC member or anything.

Duel links is probably the game I’ve played the most in my life, the game is good and has had many of cool formats, even when there are clearly superior strategies I still almost got Kog with spirit monsters which was an absolute blast, however the game isn’t very balanced in both cardpool and skills, there are some archetypes that literally launched without their main gimmick, madolches came out YEARS before XYZ was a thing in duel links or monarchs being separated into several boxes and high rarity though several years. Skills also can be frustrating, onomats and galaxy eyes had some ridiculous skills that encouraged bad deck building “just run every name and spam the skill to always fix your hand”. Duel links has always been playable but konami has made MASSIVE errors in balancing and too slow too fix the meta despite this being a digital card game.

Yeah some of the formats (Shirinui, Amazoness) definitely stick out as black eyes but the game was such a leap forward for Yu-Gi-Oh video games. I don't know if I'd say that the skills that require you to be playing an absurd amount of in archtypes cards encourage "bad" deck building per say, more that it's a trade off to prevent them from being splashable. The generic skills early on were nightmares.

@@QuestLogFaker the generic skills were trouble some but some archetypes like onomat only needed any name to fulfill the condition, rather than running a consisten build they could just add 16 names and always get zubababancho and onomatopoeia or sister. This was way worse in galaxy eyes and blue eyes because it encouraged running a deck of mostly bricks and few playable cards as you could just fix the hand in a jiffy. Also talking about formats harpies took AGES to get hit at all despite they were powerful soon after launch despite people underselled the box.

1:50 the game has gotten considerably worse for the f2p player. Master duel completely replaced duel links as my main yugioh outlet simply due to how much more fair the game is to f2p players, despite liking duel links considerably more from a conceptual and presentation standpoint.

I can see that, but you can't really expect Konami to cater too much to F2P, it doesn't make much sense for them too.

@@QuestLogFaker There's a degree of inconvenience I'm willing to put up with when it comes to f2p titles. In Master Duel I can earn gems and use said gems on anything related to the actual cards as I please, even if I can't afford everything I want right out of the gate I can earn it with enough time and patience. In Duel Links, the first selection pack in tandem with the release of the elemental heroes structure deck signaled the end for f2p players playing on an equal playing field to spenders. With the selection box being a limited purchase for gems while having key meta defining cards in the box coupled with the E-HERO structure deck only being purchasable for gems once while only coming with x1 copy of Elemental Hero Blazeman, which was at the time seen as a must-have card for HERO decks, Konomi basically told us f2p players to scram. Master duel has shown they can still run a profitable yugioh game while still allowing players full access to the card pool, they're just greedy with DL

@@QuestLogFakersome cards like tri gate wizard can’t actually fully meet their conditions and sometimes link climbing can be weird, still I wouldn’t go as far as to say that the mechanic shouldn’t be in the game.
