Well this might be a long one...I'm Julie, I live in Alaska, I was a group fitness instructor from 1995 until 2015 when I retired to be more available to help out with our new twin granddaughters. I taught mostly step for those 20 years, but also taught group barbell classes, yoga, old school aerobics, spin, and even dabbled in aqua aerobics. But step was always my first love. I stopped teaching step in 2008 when the network of clubs I worked for went to the Les Mills programs where we used their music, their choreography, etc. It wasn't for me. I was/am a big fan of creating my own choreo and using my own (licensed) music. I did continue teaching other group formats that didn't fall under the Les Mills brand, like yoga. So, I haven't been on a step other than to use it at a weight lifting bench since 2008. Today I found that my anxiety and depression was kicking up a bit and I knew I had to nip it straight away before I created too many neural pathways based on fear and anxiety. I used to run after GF retirement but I'm 57 now and my knees and ankles have had enough of the road pounding so I didn't want to go back to that right off, even though I know it would help and I do love the feeling of running. Anyway, I looked at my step bench and thought....wow, maybe I should look on youtube for some step workouts. I bet that will help get me out of my funk. I found you. Thank you for that short and sweet and somewhat harder than I remember it being workout! It was the perfect reintroduction to step! I even found myself smiling and thinking I may do another short step class of yours. I'm fit cardio wise, but like I said haven't been on a step in ages..it's a whole other beast. I used one set of risers. It may have been too much for the first time back in almost 10 year! But I got a good workout and felt mostly comfortable and towards the end I could feel that old muscle memory start to respond. I even started cueing the moves with you...I'm a pointer...so I would point to which side as I cued! It was funny to be honest. I didn't miss a beat! I still got it! LOL! So in closing I just want to say thanks for putting yourself and your workouts out there for those of us that can't get outside (it's 35 degrees today and raining on top of snow which means ice) or maybe we don't feel comfortable in a gym/class setting anymore. I think I found a new cardio home (I also have an iFit membership with our nordictrack studio cycle so I can cross train and mix it up a bit, I use the iFit membership for strength and yoga as well) but I see you also have other formats and I may try them out as well. Again, thanks so much and I think you found a new follower!

I never find a basic class boring. I add a riser and the slower pace give me an opportunity to really focus on form, footwork, making sure weight is over the foot, keeping a straight back, good range of motion through arms. If you are hesitating....don't....Chris is a fantastic instructor and makes the movements easy to follow.😀

I'm 55 and have been doing step workouts since my 20s. However, for some reason in my 40s I lost all coordination (maybe kids and weight gain are to blame lol). I am so lost now when I do it in a class. So last week I pulled out my old Jane Fonda step and decided to find someone on KZbin. Thank you for helping me find again the joy of step aerobics. I think I'll stick to step class in my living room.

@@CDornerFitness I have been doing this one for three weeks now and enjoyed it. One day I tried to do a faster one at 130bpm but could not take that speed and some of the more complicated L step that came with it. Lost balance and fell, but got up immediately. Do you have any more step workouts for beginner seniors at 124bpm or slower? Also, for senior beginners, how many inches high is the minimum a step needs to be? Will appreciate a response. With gratitude....

Hey Girl, your workouts never cease to amaze me. You explain everything in simple, easy-to-understand, and easy-to-follow steps. Aerobics has always been so boring for me, especially if the instructor had no personality 99% of the time. Your workouts make me feel like I am in the same room with you, having a great workout with my best friend. You have such charisma, with excitement in your voice that keeps me motivated. I would just like to mention to anyone reading my comment. Working out with Chris takes aerobics to a whole new, fun, and exciting level. I am not a person to comment on anything, anywhere. But I have to give credit where credit is due. Thank you again for being YOU. Your biggest fan in Ohio.

I kept up with you, though many times with the wrong move or other foot, but at least I was moving! 😁 I’m sure next time it will be easier as I catch on, and eventually, I can add the risers. Day 1 03/06/24: haven’t done this in maybe 20 years since I was a teenager. Starting with a basic fitness level from walking 3-4 days per week for 30 mins. It all came back immediately & I kept time/step the whole time. Out of breath in a good way didn’t feel at any point I wanted to give up but defo got the heart rate up!! Excited and smiled the whole time 🎉

In my 50s and looking to add some more cardio into my daily routine. Loved this beginner introduction class. Lost my coordination once but kept up the rest of the time. Thanks for such a fab video. I came here after Alex from My Yarny Corner mentioned that she was doing your videos 😊

I’m in my 40’s and this is my first time doing a step class not to mention I’m getting back into aerobics after a long break (think in terms of years 😂 ). I did no risers, this was simple enough for me to follow and not get too bored. I plan on doing this video for the next month to just get back into the habit of working out. I know I will get bored so I plan on adding risers and or carrying dumbbells to up the intensity if needed. But thanks for the content and the reminder to not judge myself to harshly as I go. Even though I was super active in my younger years, I have to remember to start from where I’m at now and not where I was. Thanks!

I can't thank you enough for this video. 10 years ago I was in the best shape of my life in my early 40s. Through a series of accidents and trauma I let myself go completely. I saw a picture of myself today from that era, and I decided today was the day I had to start changing things. Thank you so much for this video. It was the perfect start to get back into it... a little sore on my left hip and some vertigo, but other than that I think I have found the new channel to subscribe to for fitness. Thank you so much!🙏

I have tried a couple of other basic step for beginners/seniors. I watched this one earlier and used it today. It's my go to now as I found it fits my pace and used steps I could actually do.

I'm an ex trainer now on big journey with sickness and chemo... so this was good to do. Slower pace but needed so I don't pass out. Thank you from Kiwi Kim in NZ 🙂

Another great basic Chris, I tried your intermediate step but I could not keep up so I go back to your basic and I swear it gets me every time, I feel it in my legs and hips and I always finish drenched, amazing 😊
