Always a good idea to visually check for txv, regardless of what rating plate says. My rating plate says I have an indoor TXV and subcooling to 12F. Well, I had a tech replace evaporator coils under warranty about 10 years ago, and unbeknownst to me, he replaced my txv with a fixed metering device. I found this out a few days ago, while finally deciding to educate myself on my system. Knowledge is key, d'oh!

shouldn't be too hard. watch about 8 videos because you'll pick up some things that other videos missed. like this one has the temperature probe where some other ones do not. some use a wet-bulb test and others do not, some use that extra add-on piece you see that he has on the blue side (by the gauge and some do not). Blend all of the tricks together and you'll be able to fix your own A/C freon-low condition, .

Have an old R22 unit that does not cool well. I believe it uses a piston as the metering device, but I can't see inside. The suction side line near the outdoor unit never seems to sweat, or get cool. My low side pressure is 75 PSI, and my high side is 205 PSI on a 90 F day with high humidity. The liquid line pipe temp was about 92 F, and the suction side pipe temp was about 64 F. So, I calculate about 20 F of superheat (64 line temp - 44 sat temp on guage = 20), which is too high, right? (should be about 5-10 according to the charts). Indoor WB was about 60-62 F. Do I just need to add more refrigerant?

Exactly! I have a 17 yo. central A/c system, it has never had freon added to it, since new, but I have had it serviced every year, it now doesn't blow air that is real cold like it use to, it's still cool air but I feel that it needs a slight charge, my tech says no you must have a leak, I say but from all of those years of the system being checked some freon was probably lost when unscrewing the hoses to check the level. He refuses to charge it for me. what do you think? thanks.

It holds at 75 deg, on the stat but runs all day long about 2pm the indoor temp actually goes up to about 76 degrees until around 6pm ,it doesn't shut off till dark,please help. I have some experience but not enough. I have a good sweat back from compressor to where the insulation starts. I'm EPA universal so I'm able to hook up guages, I just dont do this for a living

@hustlerhq
@hustlerhq Жыл бұрын
blue is vapor , red is liquid. red has a tube that goes to the bottom of the tank, where the liquid is. w two valves , you don’t have to flip it upside down. you are probably talking about a recovery tank, virgin tanks only allow refrigerant out

Im an ACR student at Oklahoma University Institution of technology. My question is, how can I correctly charge a unit if I don’t have any information from the unit saying what’s it’s supposed to be set to, and if there’s a specific super heat or sub cooling, does it apply to other refrigerants?

I worked in the field for 20 years. Never used a thermometer attached to the liquid line. . I just used a temperature pressure chart that told me what range on the low pressure end I should be at. Of course if you had really high or low high pressure ( you has a chart for those ranges too) and knowing your ambient temp, you looked for reasons that would cause that. A freon tank without a fast charger device, sometimes I'd have to increase the pressure to get the system to charge due to the back pressure by putting the tank in warm water. This makes the difference on if you have to charge the system with the tank right side up or upside down. Those fast charger devices can really save time.
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 5 жыл бұрын
I believe you are referring to old capillary tube systems since they tend to maintain a more consistent pressure than pistons. You cannot use that method effectively or efficiently for systems with a piston or txv metering device for quite a range of reasons unless you are talking about package units with a manufacturer's specific table for that particular unit. Superheat and subcooling all have to do with compressor safety, energy efficiency, compressor lifespan, best possible heat removal and capacity. Yes those fast charge devices are nice and help guard the compressor. Thank you very much Divergent Droid!

If you want to bleed back the refrigerant in your hoses to the unit do you disconnect the high side first and then open the high side valve at your manifold to let it bleed through the suction side Or is it the opposite way? I can't remember.

David Williams disconnect your red(high side) Line. Open both valves. Wait for gauges to equal out in pressure (the pressures won't be the same) once the needles stop moving wait 10 sec then remove the blue line. If using low loss fittings purge the yellow line at the base of the gauges. If done correctly you should only have air pressure released and zero liquid

Refrigeration would be a different process where you would be looking for 6-8 degrees of superheat when the unit is down in temp but if the unit was off and starting for the first time you would keep the door open and charge until you had a solid column of liquid going through the sight glass. Superheat might be 30 or 40 but then you would shut the door and check for 6-8 once it was down in temp. This is all assuming you have a receiver, thanks

On a walk in cooler box, we use the sight glass to determine if there is 1 degree of subcooling with the door open with the highest load possible, so we start with bubbles and then add until there are no more bubbles. Then the doors are shut and the excess refrigerant that is not used is stored in the liquid receiver when the load is lower as the box lowers in temperature, thanks

Great video however the use of the 410a gauges drove me a little nuts, you can screw a system up pretty easily when using gauges with the wrong pressure range
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 жыл бұрын
Gauges are typically overlaid with 3 p/t saturation points. This has R-22, R-410A, and R-404a. You can't use a different refrigerant's p/t chart. I used r-22, thanks
@Mattmm83
@Mattmm83 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not talking about the pt overlay I'm talking about gauge accuracy. Typically a gauge is a 323 gauge which means if you were to divide it into 3 equal portions the lowest has 3% deviation in accuracy the middle portion has 2% deviation in accuracy and the 3rd portion is 3% deviation in accuracy. This may be fine with the old txv systems but when you get into vrf and rapid staging systems that are currently commercial but are starting to poke their heads into the residential market people are going to be seeing catastrophic system failures due to the inaccurate measuring techniques still plaguing the residential industry. In reality gauges themselves are a bit of an antiquated tool. They simply are not trustworthy enough.

You won't usually be able to tell if you are low on refrigerant unless you are severely low with no liquid refrigerant left. With the power off, check to make sure that you don't have a low pressure switch shutting off the 24v needed to power the contactor which would power the compressor. With the power off, check to make sure that you are getting good resistance readings across the compressor.

You can save money Changing your filters & flushing your drain lines.... but a service tech should still check your system once or twice a year!!!! I have seen a handyman butcher a system(s)!!! Even broke an attic access ladder at the base & stepped a hole in the ceiling!! Same house!! Quit trying to get the same Service out of inexperienced people!!! When you have an electrical problem do you call the plumber!? If a company does all in one... doesn't mean the guy in the vehicle knows plumbing!? He may be the regular tech that does electrical!? The system is hacked now.... companies are just trying to get in your house!? If the tech sent out can't fix..... they send the real(the real plumber?!) tech ! Basically if u don't pay attention to what's really going on.... it's just a person learning on your stuff at your expense!!!

Always call an HVACR company especially if they only do that specific trade and go by referrals from neighbors and friends thanks!

Or if you have a brain in your head ....study, learn , then learn some more . Purchase quality tools (Gauges, hoses, temp equip, etc) Procure yourself a tank of R22 and have it on hand if that is the refrigerant you need. Do the maintenance and upkeep yearly ...and when , not if ....you need a charge , you do it yourself for a fraction of what it would cost you to have a real HVAC trained pro do it for you . Yes it's ideal if money is not an issue to have a pro handle it, but that is not always an option for some . Learn & practice safe habits (eye wear, gloves, etc) and get to it . These skilled Pro's take the time to show you the proper way of doing things . The people who do these videos are a GOD send for most

Yes I understand and apologize. I am trying to curb that as it is my visual cue for an eye contact of understanding from my students while teaching in the shop. Thanks for letting me know!

You're going way, way too fast. You're talking to people who already know all this. Put yourself in the viewer's place.

Hey Mary, The video that I put out are generally towards those in school for HVACR, in maintenance or already technicians. Technicians need to be EPA 608 certified before handling refrigerants, thanks
