My ex-husband told me while we were married he hated women with short hair and redheads. He completely screwed me over with thousands of dollars of debt and ruined my credit score after five years together. I showed up to divorce court with short red hair. It was the best petty moment of my life.

My MIL said short hair was “unfeminine”. I have naturally super curly hair, so the maintenance can be insane. I told her she was welcome to pay a hairdresser to show up at my house to do my hair, at least 2 hours before work each day while I continue to sleep, so that I don’t have to deal with it. I promptly cut it off the next day. Strange how she wasn’t willing to do that💁🏻‍♀️

My long distance boyfriend flew in for my Senior prom. So I had to pay for everything. I couldn’t afford to get new shoes, so I had to make do with what I had. He was shorter than I was and it was an issue for him. We made it through the picture line and then he threw such a fit we ended up leaving!! I never got to have my senior prom because he was mad I was taller than him. On the bright side, the photographer pulled me aside and told me I looked like Nicole Kidman…I think he knew there was an issue and tried to make my night, bless him.

My mother in law got us all shoes for Christmas one year, and my father in law, brother in law, and husband all had issues with their shoes, so she AUTOMATICALLY assumed I hated the absolutely AMAZING AND COMFORTABLE boots that she picked out for me. Thing is I genuinely loved those boots. But she insisted that I must hate them. We got into a heated argument because I had no issue with my gift. So I made it a point to wear those boots to every family gathering for the next two years. Even in the dead of summer.

Last night at work I got the best compliment. This lady is maybe in her 60's and she's having a glass of wine, everyone is jiving having a good time and I go to close her out. She says to me "you know who you remind of? Charlotte Dobre, you have her mannerisms." Ya'll the squeal I squelt, I was so excited. It made my night and when she was done she looked at me before she left and went "Subscribe!" Honestly the most wholesome moment of my life.

I was in an abusive relationship in HS n then he moved to FL but came back to “bring” me there. I finally stood up for myself and that was that. Several yrs later was just talking to my Mom about how I did that and never let anyone do that again. Anyway, she said he sent many letters from FL read them and threw them out so I wouldn’t get sucked back in! She was the best MOM! Lost her a few mths back.

The girl at the end who said her petty is being nice so they can’t say anything bad about her: it is so effective. I used to be a preschool and kindy teacher. I worked with a woman who was super difficult, would scream at me in front of our students about things she thought I should be doing but I was under no obligation to do. For example: it was my free planning time to go wherever I needed to go to plan my lessons, and her time to supervise playtime. She expected me to plan in the playroom with her to “share the responsibilities” meanwhile she never did this on her planning time, so she knew this was BS. Also have you tried typing and getting quiet time around 40 little kids under the age of 5? It is impossible to have any sort of extended concentration to type up lesson plans or create materials bc all the kids are just going to come up and want to play with the materials lol. I loved the kids but that was the truth. Anyways, I never got aggressive back with this woman. I kept everything factual and unemotional, and I even went out of my way to be “nice and helpful” during other times. I gave her absolutely NOTHING to come back at me. Partially bc I just like the kind of workplace where everyone is respectful of each others time but still makes an effort to help each other out when we can. It’s not expected, but always pleasantly surprising and grateful when help happens. I had this kind of relationship with EVERYONE else on the staff. The other part of me knew if I kept it civil, she would have a long track record of popping off at people and being demanding, and my record would be squeaky clean. So for the petty revenge: her contract came up for renewal. Now, the HR lady didn’t know about all the outbursts bc my manager handled it at the time. So she drafted up a new contract for the teacher to sign. Then, all the other teachers were upset and voiced to HR and mgmt. They all had run ins with that teacher and were pissed they’d have to work with her another year. Well I didn’t rly say much until I was asked “so what do you think?” And I just….told the truth. That I tried to be reasonable to her, and all I got back was hostility and aggression and insults. I detailed some of the things she screamed at me. The owner of the school said to HR: “take back the contract. if Val has a problem with her then there is a real problem. She is gone.” And that day, the woman was really really REALLY angry to everyone, and straight up stopped speaking to me at all. She was gone about a month later. Her replacement ended up becoming one of my best friends in the whole world. The lesson is: if you’re nice all the time and someone is being rude to you, they look like the asshole. So stay nice to spite them lol. Karma will come in the end. Or at least the court of public opinion hahaha.

When I was 13, I cut my hair "boy short" and dyed it fire engine red. My grandmother started on about how it was so ugly and people were going to think I was a *gasp* LESBIAN, etc. Looked her straight in the eye and said "Well, I didn't ask what you think, I don't care what they think. And, I'm bisexual." It was a big stink in the family for a while and was the first step to many of the reasons various family members don't speak to me anymore. Edit to add another story: When my cousin had her first child, she posted on FB and all that, and her brother left a comment that said "Ew. Unfollow." Obviously, it was a joke and THAT side of the family actually has a sense of humor.

My petty story: In the late 1980s, I worked as a receptionist at a small company, owned by a couple. The wife was a very gossipy, nosy, nose-in-the-air type. One day, I was called into her office for wearing my skirts too short. Actually, my skirts hit me at the same place other women's in the office did, but my legs are long and I'm tall, I suppose more leg was showing. She informed me I was to buy new skirts or let out the length. I went home, let out the hems, and then left the raw edges unhemmed. I wore one to work the next day, all sassy and stuff, loose threads blowing in the breeze. Her husband nearly choked on his coffee when he saw me. She never said a word. I wore them like that for the next year. Thirty years later, when I run into former coworkers, they still remember that. I could have handled it better, looking back....but I was younger and the petty gene was still fresh.

The very last vid, the one about being petty with niceness, is legit how I live. I work in customer service and my absolute favourite thing to do is be so nice to grumpy customers that they end up kinda getting more annoyed because I’m not giving them any reasons to validate their rudeness. It’s literally killing them with kindness and it’s the best 😂

I give a big smile and wave to the people who finally pass and glare at me after I was "forcing" them to drive the speed limit. The limit in my city is 35. I've lived here for over 34 years. You don't speed here because the cops are bored af and are looking to write tickets. Will you get a ticket for 1 or 2 mph over? Yep. Rolled through one of the many stop signs? You bet. They don't play. I was cited two years ago on my birthday because the tail light was out. They could have just warned me, but they playing the petty game too.

When both my daughters and I cut off our hairs to give to Cancer Society ( she was 9, then when the youngest was born, she was 3) to make wigs. I was criticized for this action. So, we did it until they started colouring their hairs. They were ok with the donations. I didn't stop until I got ill in 2016. We all knew someone that was touched by Cancer. Since those we knew then were young adults, it's specially detrimental for their mental development to not to experience doubts. And for them to develop their self worth and confidence. It may be a small thing, but for those that used our gifts, I hope that it aided them in their growth and recovery.

Oooh that last one is my favourite flavour of petty too. My ex spread stories I was the hysterical ex who can't let go (when we hadn't talked in months?) and then when there was a party of our shared group of friends for the first time in months, he brought his new girlfriend. So I was just really joyful and kind especially to her, just not showing a worry in the world. He got all mad and they left within half an hour and we never saw him again, lol. Obviously just showed up to see me get upset and got frustrated when I saw right through his plan and countered it with kindness!

One of my professors at Uni told us to put our laptops away for her class and take notes by hand. She explained that it has been proven that when you hand write your notes, you retain the info better. You usually can't write every word down so you're forced to process what is being said and summarize it in a way that makes sense for you to study later (versus typing everything that's being said).
@heatherduke7703

I take notes by hand. I think the physical process also helps to encode the information
@Amber-yq9ee
@Amber-yq9ee Жыл бұрын
That is 1 of the ways I excelled in school. I have a VERY good memory. So typically I never had to study really. There were some classes that were harder for me & required more attn than normal. & More so once I got in College but my methods stayed the same & proved time & time again that that were effective. I took notes by hand or even by laptop. But then when I'd get home regardless if it was written or typed, I would hand-write my notes into my notebook to make it look neater & not be so sloppy & to fix mistakes or edit them to make more sense to me. & Then I would re-write them (again by hand) in my notebook but this time I would color code my notes. Which typically meant that I pulled out my many colored pens & rewrote them in diff colors either corresponding to a Key like vocab is pink, facts are blue , etc. But sometimes it wasn't color coded for a reason. Just I found it more obvious & clear to see each separate point in a diff color so they didn't run together. & I could distinguish between them. Oft times I found that last step not really necessary bc it was already so ingrained in my head I didn't even need to look at my notes to rewrite them. But it helped me feel more prepared & especially when it was a subject I had more trouble w\ or rather the ones that just didn't come easy or natural. But it worked 💯% of the time!

I low key hate when people say ‘you’ve got to be careful about what you say about your partner unless you want your friends to hate them’ My ex use to say something VERY similar to this and I realise now it was only because he didn’t want me telling people all the horrible things he would do to me and realise how abusive he was to me. Maybe if I had talked about it more I would of realised how abusive he was and gotten out sooner. Let’s normalise talking about partner. If your friends hate him, chances are they have a pretty good reason too.

Time to spill some tea…I had a long-term relationship in college and we were seriously discussing marriage, to the point that he asked my parents for permission to marry me. 2 weeks later, he dumped me, but me being me I begged for us to get back together and work things out (I used to be a major doormat but I’ve gotten much better). We dated another year after that (my entire senior year of college) but just before grad in May, my parents decided they’d be moving 4 states over to Houston (from Atlanta). They knew I was really torn about leaving my bf, but they gave me an “opportunity.” They said that they would never financially support me ever again if I stayed there with him, for him, and married him. But they WOULD buy me a BRAND NEW CAR if I dumped his ass and left the state with them. What to do, what to do? He and I were already having a bit of trouble, mainly his issues, and I suspected he cheated too. Soooo, I dumped his ass and took the brand new car! The look on his face was priceless…the same confused Pikachu face I had when he broke up with me, but this time around he was the one hurt and begging and pleading. Ahhh sweet sweet redemption! Best decision I ever made! I’m now happily married 8 years now to a wonderful man that respects me and is able to provide for us and loves me just the way I am. Had I not left, we would either have broken up anyways or I would have ended up working through til retirement at 60, despite being disabled, as a HS teacher married to another lowly paid HS teacher. Thank the Lord above for saving me from that hell and for giving me such awesomely petty yet just parents. Best grad gift ever…I still have the car which is still under 100k miles, in amazing condition, and a bonus…no payments were made on my part because my parents bought it free and clear, leaving me with zero debt. Were they petty for doing it? Probably, but more so desperate. Was I bribed? Yes, but it was worth it. Was it also the best thing my parents could have possibly done for me? Also yes. Sometimes your parents do know best, but bribery, especially financial or materialistic, helps the medicine go down in the most delightful way☂️🎶 (Mary Poppins anyone?)

I told a mutual friend (her maid of honor, btw), that if that happened, I'd shave mine in solidarity. She was like "Um, no, I'm not doing that." It...absolutely changed how I saw her. Like, someone can say they'd do anything for someone else, but stuff like that tells you who really would do anything for you, you know? In regards to short hair versus long hair, I had short hair from 1st grade until 7th grade (ages 7-13), and no one ever told me I needed to have long hair. Eventually I decided to grow it, and I’ve had it long ever since, but their are times when I miss my short hair. Especially when my hair is wet and takes forever to dry since it’s so thick. Also for sibling pettiness, I once took one of my brother’s game cube games and hid it in the couch cushions so they couldn’t play it! One of my brother’s got a football video game for Christmas, and wouldn’t stop playing it. I got so sick of not being able to watch tv when I wanted, that I took the game and hid it in the couch cushions of the old couch in the basement. It took them months to find it, and I honestly think it was my mom that found it. I told her that I hid it there and she just laughed.

I LOVE it when Charlotte has her hair up 'bratty' style 😂 On a different note, As someone who had her hair boy-short -and now has healthy long hair that I'm proud of- it's SUPER comfortable and practical. My bathing/showering time, blowdrying time, product consumption etc was A TENTH of what it currently is. Especially if you have a busy life or certain jobs, it's perfect. I cut it when I was 17 and kept it short throughout college, and as someone who had to go to a different city for med school, and was living in a compact dormitory, it was not just easy, but healthy as well, with reduced risk of infection (fungus, lice etc.). And after that it became a new beginning for my hair to grow healthily with proper maintenance. if someone is stopping you from cutting your long hair, ask them if they're going to do your hair care routine for you. They won't, so don't listen to them.

@@laurastrele you're right but I'd argue that it's far easier applying shampoo directly onto your scalp when you've got short hair especially if your hair is quite thick like mine. I was in the opposite situation. I always had very long hair and I never contemplated cutting them, until I lost someone I loved and went a bit crazy because I was going through a roigh time. So I decided to change my entire look and get a bob cut. I kept it for two years or so, I was kind of searching for my style at the time, but eventually I decided that I was more confortable and myself with a classic haircut and decided to grow them back. All of ny aunts have short haircuts, !two are lesbians and the third is a hardcore feminist) and when I decided to grow my hair back they kind of shamed me for it. Like my short hair were a sign of emancipation from the patriarchy or something and letting them get longer again was like submitting back to stereotypical femininity.

1. I didn't even notice it was a tattoo! Good for you, it looks great and now you don't have to wear lipstick/stain unless you really want to, lol. Hope it heals well! 2. The lash look is amazeballs, and reminded me of something: I like saying that spite is a great motivator. Spite is a close cousin of pettiness. I had a college professor that thought all anime and manga was nothing but porno and not worth the time spent making it. I'm a huge nerd and study comics, so this pissed me off to no end. The final paper for that class (Japanese Art History) was supposed to be a maximum of 8 pages on any topic relating to the class. I wrote 26 pages on the history of Anime and Manga, carefully noting how it evolved from scrolls we had spent *more than one class* discussing, its use as a propaganda tool, how Japan technically had the first animation *ever*, etc etc. I changed his mind on the subject and am still proud of that. Fuck close-mindedness. (I still have the paper, too.)
