We just bought a 24 Ranger XLT 2.3 added to our fleet. We liked it so much I was contemplating trading in another Super Duty but at 45k difference I decided to keep it and picked up a Ranger XLT 4wd 2.7 for about the same coin. I use it as my daily driver to jobsites and will use the SD for the front end loaders and heavy equipment. I love the power and it feels like Im driving a G0-Cart.

Great comparison! I think Ford investing on the 2.7L Ecoboost V6 early on is now paying off. Having this as an option on the Ranger is a perfect match imho it's "Nano" for the full size segment but not so much on the midsize. It's also an underrated engine

Evaluating similar displacements, I will always choose the engine with more cylinders. It’s always going to be “smoother”, because you are dividing the engine rotations by 50% more cylinders. Think of how smooth a 4 cylinder motorcycle is compared to a v-twin Harley with the same displacement. For the same reason, you will usually get less engine wear and tear and thus greater longevity. DROP THE TURBOS!!

This was my experience with the Colorado ZR2 I drove earlier this year. The engine just doesnt seem to make the power/torque that they claim. And there are countless videos out there now that seem to back this up. Towing tests and acceleration tests where the Colorado just doesnt do what it should based on its numbers. I personally owned a 2014 steel body F150 Supercrew 6.5' bed with the 3.5L Ecoboost and it was MUCH stronger down low than the ZR2. I also had a 2018 F150 XLT Supercrew with the 2.7L as a rental for a week and remember being pretty impressed with it and thinking it felt at least as strong as my 2014.

@@somanyroads1229no replacement for displacement and the in-line will have more torque naturally, both are boosted. Many compare the 5.0 Coyote to pushrod Ls/Lt’s when the Lt6 is more of a competitor but so was the ZR-1’s of the early 90’s that produced Coyote numbers. Naturally the coyotes are going to scream and put down great numbers while taking full advantage of the 10 speed with its high revving power at a cost of efficiency. So in short it will produce more out the box for a shorter period. Honda’s make faster engines than Toyota but not as durable.

Another thing that I don’t understand on the Colorado is there is no 4Low on the Colorado LT. You need the Trailboss or higher to get 4Low on to the Colorado. On the Ford Ranger XL Trim does have the 4Low which is Ford’s starter trim for the new generation Ranger.

My buddy bought one of those heated seat pads for his driver seat and it burned his Tundra to the ground at the top of a mountain pass in the middle of Winter while he was out taking photos. I wasn't there, but from what I gather, by the time he realized his truck was on fire, there was nothing he could do. He had to hike miles out through the snow.

Hi Ben, not sure if you have tested the two but I have a 2019 Ford Ranger that I've had a lot of problems with. The early rangers have well documented transmission issues and mine certainly falls in that category. I've never had issues with the 2.3 v4 but the combination of the engine and transmission has made power delivery and drivability less than ideal. So I guess my question is, do you have any opinions on if the new rangers which saw an overhaul to the transmission in mid 2023 are a big improvement over the older generation? I love my Ranger and despite all its problems, am hesitant to sell. Especially knowing that the price of them has gone up over 10K since 2019. I paid 30K for mine and mid 40's seems like a lot to consider, but if the v6 and new trans are that much better, I'm open to it. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks, -Nick

Should I mention this world class 4 cylinder GM engine has more torque than even a 5.0, 2.7, 5.3, 5.7, and even a 6.4L HEMI. Cant deny the facts, sure you could get a raptor but then your feeding it premium and getting challenged by Honda civics on city streets. How will the 4 banger hold up you ask? 5 year history in the full size Silverado and Sierra and has proven to be undeniably reliable, moreso than GM V8 offerings.. As far as mileage I acheive 25mpg daily, on occasion over 30mpg.

I think they are very close to each other. Both drive trains seem superior in the mid- size truck market, though I would give the edge to the Ranger. The little convenience feature of the push button start lacking on the Ranger to me is a negative. You get used to leaving your key in your pocket. I think both of these trucks should be taking market share from Toyota, especially since they cost significantly less and there are deals to be had with the dealership.

The biggest thing is that a XLT 2.7L doesn't make sense. A loaded up Colorado Trailboss 24 with every package on it is going to cost you in the neighborhood of 41-43k out the door if not less depending on your dealership pricing (with the towing/tech/safety) since those are being moved fast to make room for the upcoming 25 models that will have more amenities on the interior (heated seats/heated steering wheel/etc. that will cannibalize Z71 sales probably). An XLT with a 2.7L is going to be like 48-49 similarly packaged out with towing/tech BEFORE tax title license. At that point you're talking about basically a 10k difference in most states. Not to mention it's probably impossible to find the 2.7Ls on the lots of dealerships right now, so you're pretty much stuck with just ordering them. That's not even to mention that the damn truck apparently doesn't come with a trailer hitch control, which is asinine on a 50k midsize Truck. At that point you might as well just see if you can get a Raptor for MSRP.
@DirkDiggler-p5qАй бұрын
I am currently able to find many For Rangers locally 4X4 XLT 2.7L with an MSRP of $45K marked down to $43K. The 2.7 Lariat MSRP $53K marked down to $51K. The Ford 2.7L and 10 spd is better.
@namtran512Ай бұрын
@@DirkDiggler-p5q I'm going to call shenanigans. These JUST hit the market. I'm in prime Truck land (dealers local to me basically are some of the largest Ford/Chevy/etc. truck dealers nation wide) and there are literally 19 near me within a 100 mile radius, and each one is 47k+ or more on the XLT.
