I have a 2018 High Country with 23,000 and it had a shake that started a few weeks ago and was getting worse. Some days it wouldn't do it and others it would do it all the time. On cruise control at different speeds is when it started shaking. I took it to a dealer and they referenced Service Bulletin 18-NA-355 and said it was my torque converter and the fix was to drain, flush and fill the transmission with an updated fluid. After leaving the dealership I drove 50+ miles and not only did it not shake once but the whole ride felt better. Before the shake and at freeway speed if I looked at the empty passenger seat it would be vibrating a little. Now it doesn't do that either!

I adjusted the working degree of each u joint on the driveshaft. 2 degrees is about 1/4". 1/16" can make a difference in high speed 50 mph and over. The closer to zero they are the better. Toyota tundras are within .7 degree and lower on each joint. Trust me it makes a huge difference! Especially on a split driveshaft where there are 3 total joints to adjust. They all have to be the same. Any Shake or vibration is from rotation 99% of the time. Which is a lot of verifying. I used a klein digital magnetic gauge and straight edges and tapes. Vibration reduced by 15+% easy!!

'14 CC/SB 5.3L 4x4 with 3.42 ratio truck here. I had the chevy shakes above 74mph with stock 18" wheels and tires. I replaced the rear axle wheel bearings and axle shafts with Yukon's. I measured my driveshaft for run-out per the GM TSB, well within spec. Had a local driveshaft shop balance the stock shaft, which was out. Installed new ACDelco police rotors (supposed to be very balanced units). Those things fixed almost all of the shakes. The cherry on top was new (witnessed ) RF balanced Nitto G2's, the truck is fixed and I can drive 77 or 78 mph with the rest of the world. Frustrating and costly, but I won dang it.

I bet its the Torque Converter. In the GM Transmission calibration, there is a desired slippage rpm for when the TCC is locked up. This is there to allow the ECM to detect if there is any misfires for emissions purposes and It's usually configured for about 10-20rpm during cruzing speeds. If you try and have your transmission recalibrated with something like HP Tuners and have the desired slippage all set to 0, I bet the issue will go away. Or possible a different tranmission fluid as its the desired TCC slippage that is cauing these vibrations.

I'll add mine to the list. 2002 Chevy Tahoe that shakes between 70-75mph. Not all the time, but mostly. I didn't even try to solve it, but bought it a couple of years ago to build it as a fast beater. It had 220K miles on it with a 5.3 and 4L60E and already had performance wheels and tires. Put all new suspension on it because it was dry rotted from the AZ heat. Blew the 5.3 up and changed the engine to 6.0L with a performance 4L60E and 3000 stall converter with a Procharger. That was a big upgrade so I replaced the drive shaft with aftermarket and replaced things like the a/c compressor, alternator, etc. Replaced the wheels and tires as well. Broke 3 pistons (ring lands) and replaced the pistons with forged ones. So now I finally have it running good and thought I would go after the shake. The only time I thought it was less was after I put new upper and lower control arms on and the bushings were tight. After they wore in the shake got worse, so I am thinking it is the wheel hubs. Not sure if you tried that.

2017, same issue. Shakes at 70+. I've taken it to the dealer service dept. a few times. 1st time they claimed a little bit of cupping in 3 tires after running road force test. I bought new tires...same issue with the shaking just not as severe as before...took it back to service department asked them if the transmission fluid flush would alleviate the shake (found on different forums) but their response was that it's a solution for the 8 speed shake not 6 speed. Is there a difference in in factory transmission oil from the 6 to 8 speed? They felt the shake again and said it is gonna be the tires, which are brand new. Asked me to take it back to tire shop to get road force balance done which I just did today....still shaking. I did mention that there has been a clunking and light rattle noise when driving slow speeds, over uneven surfaces, slow turns, or reversing...asked then to take a look as it could be part of the problem but they said suspension looks fine. Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

check the tires might be unbalanced or BAD aka flat spot or tread separation... i had a bad vibration at 70mph turned out the rear passenger tire had a bubble and was lopsided or VERY dangerous, pending blow out cupping can be caused by Suspension issues,Vehicle misalignment, Wheel imbalance or bubble in the tire

I bought a 2017 2500hd Silverado Duramax and have been fighting this for over 4 years now. I’ve done everything that has been recommended - custom built driveshaft Bilstein shocks with the remote reservoirs all the way around, even have centramatic balancers all the way around. Been through 3 sets of rims and tires. Flushed all the fluids, rear ended and transmission. Nothing has worked at all!!! Trucks paid off, hard to let it go but I can’t do this anymore. I can’t find anyone to help GM just blames it on tires…. All I have done has been a result of my researching and trying to fix it on my own. I see with no change but wasted money. Truck shakes at any speed but 65-75 is ridiculous. I will never buy a Chevy again…

Guys. Listen up! I’ve worked in GM service for 20 years. I own a 2016. I’ve fixed everyone that has ever come into the shop. Updated rack bushings and technical road force fixes them all. Very few people understand how to use a road force balancer to its full extent. Road force has to be under 15lbs. Or forget it. Good luck.

Also, the 20’s and 22in wheels/tires MUST be done hot. (Drive for 10-15 min and road force hot. You might have to split up 2 and 2 to do this) there is enough belt expansion in the tires when hot that will ruin your road force day if done cold. Hope this helps ya’ll

It is likely frame beaming whereas the frame is slightly flexing at certain speeds and the vibration is felt through the vehicle. Don't know what GM has to say but most likely the frame would have to be strengthened.

2001 silverado 2500hd 4x4 extended cab (6.0 lq4 - 4l80e - 261hd ) first timer experience with the Chevy shake and it just started on mine recently, I feel when it happens it is closest to me the driver. Steering lightly vibrates as well as the accelerator pedal along with the entire truck. I started with a rebalance of all my new (3000 mile mb4) cheap all terrains and found a rear u-joint coming apart, replaced both u-joints and still experiencing the shake. My front driveshaft is currently disconnected from the 4l80e - 261hd tranfer case to the front differential trying to diagnose an issue from before... (low growling on deceleration under 35) could still be from the transfer or transmission. Sounds like a bearing noise somewhere along with the vibration. The vibration starts in stages around 30, 40, 55, 60, 65 and worse at 70+ and phases out after 80 + noise lessons on deceleration but is significant. Just starting in on the convo and trying to help get this thing figured out!

Mine's a 96 S10 with a V8 attached to an nv3500 5 speed. I recently was moving and was hauling ass a few times whilst loaded, it started vibrating a month after. It cracked my passenger side collector by the y pipe. Every time I had it welded it would crack in less than a couple weeks of driving. It vibrates after 90 mph in 4th and 5th gears sometimes violently sometimes mild enough to recognize. I replaced both motor mounts, transmission mount, clutch, flywheel resurfaced, bell housing transmission was inspected drive shaft was balanced. I've balanced all four tires. Can a harmonic balancer being damaged cause problems like that? Break a bellhousing? The bell housing broke months after I moved while driving with the vibration.

My 2002 Avalanche 2wd was in need of attention regarding road feel and shake issues. So it needed an upper ball joint on the drivers side and we put 4 new Goodyear LT 265 70 17 tires with balancing. I was told I needed new U-joints which I knew, but was putting off for better weather. I decided waiting wasn't a great idea and replaced the front and rear u-joints and it made a tremendous difference in the ride as far as shaking as well as the reverse to forward CLUNK! Now at first it seemed smooth as silk on my test rides but after a little bit, I realized the shake (which feels like you're running over the rumble strips on the shoulder) was still there around 50-60 MPH. Then I remembered my wife's 2010 Mazda CX-9 AWD which had a similar "rumble" which felt like it was in the transmission that ended up being a stuck brake caliper. I barely caressed the brake pedal on the Avalanche when the shake started at 50 MPH and it went away immediately! Could my "Chevy shake" be in my brakes? We will find out soon....

17 GMC Sierra 1500 with "Chevy Shake". Very helpful video. I had thought maybe something to do with rear springs but you no longer have them so that rules that out. Dealer had this truck for 110 days. They changed rear rotors, rebuilt rear end, followed by changing whole axle assembly, new shocks, all 4 corners new springs, new driveshaft, multiple alignments, multiple RFB followed by two new tires and more RFB. All this and it was only slightly better. When I got it back replaced the wheels and tires with aftermarket wheels and Cooper tires and showed no change. I then shimmed the rear axle 2 degrees which took about 80% of the shake away for a few thousand miles. Now it is back as bad as day one. Fresh out of ideas myself. Also noticed front right tire is cupping after only a few thousand miles. Thinking about trying Centramatic 300-356 dynamic wheel balancers. Anyone try them yet?

Changed shocks to Bilstein 5100s, upped the spring rate of the front with Eibach lift springs, turned off DOD, changed to poly trans mount, exhaust mounts have been changed with aftermarket exhaust (didn't think that would be the issue but someone below mentioned that), tires balanced twice, putting a bunch of weight in the bed deosn't change anything, torqued u-bolts... Going to check runout on rear axle shafts and get driveshaft balanced. Will eventually do TC before it dies and destroys my transmission... Fun times.

As an OEM chevy installs aluminum lower control arms and they degrade really quickly and even come off the line defective. The problem presents itself right at that milage markers. I would upgrade to cast iron or high performance. You can replace the upper too but the lower is what absorbs road vibration and impact. There are test you can do and video on you tube to test them. I have done pretty much everything you have done. Instead of swapping my factory 2 piece driveshaft I had it balanced and its true. Also torque converter locked unlocked. I really believe it could be either the tail shaft of the transmission or its in the electronics. Either tuning, with something pulsing or its in the ABS system. I really think something is turning on electronically at these speeds and making the brakes pulse or something like that. I do know that this 1500 is the only one I've had were I needed to change the brake pads at 40k miles. All my past silverados lasted much longer. Just my thought.

I have noticed after a wheel balance and newer tires it runs smooth but not perfect..also maybe something to consider with bed fully loaded and trailering a small trailer it runs almost vibration free.. is it an aerodynamic issue? just my 2 cents....would love an answer on it but its doubtful because GM knows and its probably not good to fix it for them.

Lifted my truck at a shop to get brakes rotors replaced, the mechanic asked me if I had the “chevy shake” told him yes, he asked if it was cool to raise the truck and have his helper accelerate while tires were off the floor, we were able to see the drive shaft vibrate as we felt the shaking thru the entire truck... mind you, all tires brand new and road forced... 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom.

There was a silver bullet for mine. It was pinion angle. My rear u joint angle was about 5 degrees nose high When I first started to lower the truck I started with putting lowering shackles on it, it cut the vibration down and I knew then I was on the right path. I’ve had multiple sets of wheels and tires, brakes and rotors, transmission, driveshaft etc. Lowered the nose of the rear end and it’s gone, put it 2-3 degrees nose down to account for axle wrap that stands the nose of the rear end up under acceleration. When I lowered my truck I also raised the tail of the transmission with the supplied spacer to straighten out the front u joint Truck is perfect now, even on 24’s it’s 100% perfect

I retorqued all the mounts, tried about 8 different combinations over 500 miles. It definitely makes a difference, in more than just ride but the way it handles/ agility. I've also adjusted the sway bar link nut Torque ( first ). I wish Chevy would have put ball joints on one end of each of the sway links, the end where it connects to the lower control arm. It would allow more /smoother control arm movement on bumps without affecting sway. The Chevy sway links allow for little movement with squeezing two bushings together against the controls arm. Especially when you jack one side of the truck up to change a tire etc, notice the stock sway link bushings ( on the control arm ) next time you jack one side of the truck up.

It still wobbles excessively at 65-72 and other speeds not as bad. Even hitting bumps in the road cause shaking, but you don't really see it in the steering wheel. I have experienced to 31-34 & 62-68 shakes too. First is TIRES. First too many guys want mud tires with aggressive tread, 2nd goes to Chevy with the CHEAP balls (upper control arms, ties rod ends, etc), 3rd goes to Chevy RIMS, 4th goes to Chevy SHOCKS. But RIMS that are out of round or bent are a key factor (especially when two or more line up their out of round at the same time). You can BANK on replacing the entire front end of your Chevy every 180,000. But I suspect it has something to do with filling the frame with hell like BMW does to help deaden road noise and stability.

My 2019 only does it whenever one of the tires comes into a state of freefall for a split second aka hits a bump hard enough or something similar. When the tire makes contact with the ground again it will be wobbling violently for a few seconds until I slow down. If it's on the back wheels whenever this condition happens it causes the differential to be put in a bind and pops two or three times.

I understand completely. I swear it didn’t happen with my stock wheels. Got aftermarket wheels and tires, and it was horrible. Discount tire put 3 sets of different tires on. Still not satisfied, I had Penske Chevrolet road force balance, which helped tremendously. Still there though. Installed a custom $1000 driveshaft, and it seemed perfect. Then headed to the C10 Nationals. 30 miles from home in downtown Indy, I thought the truck was coming apart. Pulled over and torqued all lugnuts and inspected underneath truck. Was lucky I wasn’t killed. The remedy to it was not do 70mph and do 65 or 80 plus. Being ProCharged with a/c on, at 80mph still got 26mpg lol. So 80 it was lol. I figure my true test for the new torque converter is when I go back to the C10 Nationals. If you read up on the converter stuff, you will figure out that if you don’t do it soon, your transmission will be fubar. If you’re keeping the truck, do it for good insurance. Good luck.

I have a GMC Savana 2500 has the shaking problem, it will happen at speed of around 80 KM/h. When you try to brake, that makes the highway downhill drive very scary, because you need to brake to cap the speed from going too fast. I went to the auto shop they changed rotors and brake pads, it didn't solve the problem. So I try to slow down to 60 km or under before entering the slop and keep it driving under 60 km. I have an engineering background, I think this is resonating, somehow the front drive system has a resonating frequency which is equal to the vibration when you brake at around 80 km speed, so what you experienced is the resonating effect of the front driving system. It will escalate to reach a peak because of the frequency of the vibration caused by the braking equal to the frequency of the front driving system. It could cause failure or damage to the driving systems. To make it short, it is a design flaw, when they design the driving system, the frequency is similar to the frequency of the frequency caused by the braking action at around 80 km/h. I had a 1999 Vandura 2500 which does not have this vibrating problem, doesn't matter you are going down hill on highway and try to brake. Next time I buying a van I will check the issue by driving down a slop at higher speed and brake to test the resonating effect.

It doesn't bode well. I think I'll do a torque converter soon, but after that, I'm not sure.

I suggested to the dealership to change the torque converter but Chevy wont let them because they say the vibration is in the rear end. They have replaced everything in the rear end and it didn't help at all.

Their own report states it comes from the front end, they are very good at playing stupid.
