I paid child support for nearly 17 years. I can promise you what was really paying for was her mothers recreational expenses.

Child support when done right is fine, my father paid support for me, my mom had it reduced actually cause the courts had him paying too much and he couldn't afford to live himself , but he still helped with whatever else he could ,bought us all cars etc, shoes, clothes even with support . I don't see any issue with support only greedy baby mama's or farhers taking advantage of tbe situation ...

My biggest issue is, if one parent can't afford to care for children, you shouldn't have custody. Mothers that depend on child support to be a financially viable parent are the real bums.

I think child support calculations may vary from state to state. I received child support based on what my ex-husband's wages HOWEVER, I ALSO had to report my wages, benefits available through my employment, monthly rent, average utilities, car payment, etc. I had to basically justify where I was living (not too expensive, but was good for the kids), verify that I had a decent vehicle (but not making horrendous payments) and literally sign documentation stating that neither of us would withhold anything from the kids if it was a financial need. Thankfully those days are over for me now. We had a few bumps in the road, but eventually we both realized IT WASNT ABOUT US.

Nah. Child support should be put in an account and the mom or dad should be hd accountable for how they spend it. As in, exactly how for instance on food stamps you can't buy liquor, drugs , cigarettes.

Debtors prison is unconstitutional so they try to circumvent that by saying you violated a court order

My sons father pays nothing,.. wish he would.. but no worries, I got em😊 I'm the real dad! Met him after a year with my wife and never looked back

If I want a easy life I would pay child support and never worry about those kids. Less stress for me. Basically paying the mom to not be in my life.

I have 3 kids with 2 women my oldest 2 their mother has not put me on child support the other did after a while she wishs she didn't cause now she gets less money and help due to that I'm making her go by the court orders no more no less this is what she wanted this is what she gets

I think child support is usually a guide for what parents who are not custodial parents should owe to the other parent to give their child a quality life at the custodial parent’s home. It ensures that the child gets what they need, just in case the non custodial parent does not want to provide what is necessary financially. However, child support is not necessarily needed if both parents agree on a certain amount or if the non custodial parent wants to give more than what is required by the state. However, there should absolutely be a cap on child support per each state depending on what living expenses cost in each state. Also, child support should be raised for non custodial parents who don’t want to pay voluntarily, but are only trying to pay $200 a month.

Okay, so how do we finally get untethered from the whole system (Michigan-Detroit Friend of the Court)…my two stepsons are now in their 30’s and we have been paying arrearage since 2006…the state of Michigan has overstepped their place and are STILL taking like 40% of my husband’s paychecks! My husband is a good father but his ex with held his sons from us for 6 1/2 years and was even incarcerated because Michigan was in a deficit (he was actually doing what he needed to do to have it taken out of his paychecks)! The level of corruption is absolutely staggering!!!!! We can’t seem to find any attorneys that will help us get our case closed. What do we do?!?!! Any suggestions? This is NOT a life sentence, but it sure feels like it. My stepson’s don’t see any of that money. That’s been a vacation fund for my husband’s ex. 🤦‍♀️
