I find Demo realy fun. Always has, and now, even tho i no longer has Metamorph, it's still realy fun. It has the cooler artifact weapon, lot's of demons, and atop of that, good dps.

Enh shaman is serious fun atm. I'm not sure if i'll be able to give up the 2 classes i've alternated between since vanilla as mains, but god the sound and effects when you crash lightning 20+ gathered mobs is like a thunderbolt from zeus himself hitting your speakers.

It was him talking about how he's such a reliable player, always making sure to be ready if anyone needs him to step up, which he subverts immediately with his reason for picking mage boiling down to not wanting to tank or heal at all.

But the thing that he's explained over the years is that he has a compulsion to step up and be the tank and healer even if he doesn't like it. That's what he's trying to say. If he was to chose the shadow priest, he would still try his hardest to be really good at holy and disc as well and step up and be the healer when they need it even though he wont enjoy it. Picking a mage means he can only dps and focus only on dps which is what he's enjoying at the moment, and he'll still work hard to make sure he at the top of his game with all 3 specs

I think that's the point though. He enjoys things about other specs like shadow more but no longer wants to feel compelled to keep up with a healing spec or two for that matter. If you have something available to you in your class choice, you don't want to be the guy who refuses to do it.

It was a matter of *self*-given duty. If he takes multiple specs, he'll have to gear up and be practice all of those specs, not because anyone's necessarily expecting it of him, but because HE can't not do it. That's HIS compulsion, and one he finds annoying to sate especially now that he has less time to play.

I think one of the things Preach, just like everyone else, is looking forward to is to see all the cinematics implemented because most of them especially the important / longer ones aren't on the beta. Same thing with several scenarios so that's definitely something to look forward to since we know Blizzard is generally awesome when it comes to cinematics.

I personally find it makes it better. I went into WoD blind and I kept getting disoriented and lost and it was very unenjoyable for me. I just prefer to know what I'm doing and to do it well

This video actually helped me a lot by really breaking down the potential classes I was deciding on maining. In the end it came down to Warlock and Warrior, with the Lock winning out. Demonology just looks like my style of play and I'm going to give Affliction a go as well, although most people seem to be split on it.

Your videos have really helped me out to choose a priest as my probable main for Legion. Thank you for this series. When I first got to try out surrender to madness I was laughing maniacally I was having so much fun just trying to stay alive during the void form. Disc has brought me back to healing as I used to main a holy paladin back in WotLK and holy priests although they are more boring than the disc priest are still fun and good in my opinion. I like being able to switch my healing spec dependent on what the group needs. Lastly the lore of the shadow priest and the void really draws me to it. The Old Gods and Void Lords in my opinion are darker and more menacing than Sargeras and the Burning Legion. Wielding the power of the void is super badass. Thanks for this series preach.

I'm happy to see someone else put so much stock into the race (for reasons beyond 1.3% DPS differences in Racial Abilities) and cosmetics for his character. People thought I was crazy for really hating on orc warlocks even back when it was "the best race for the class." The hunched over and huge shoulders just didn't sit right with me. Female orc isn't bad at all, proportion-wise (everything looks great on them), but I didn't want my "main" to be a female, haha. That said, I've chosen Blood Elf Demon Hunter for Legion. Reason 1. Warlock was my first love in WoW, but since Cataclysm I've found a calling in tanking. There was a brief time in 5.0 where Warlocks could "tank" with a Glyph and it was loads of fun, and this is as close as I can get to that. 2. I've been watching other videos about Vengeance and how it has a high skill ceiling: "When you have a shitty DH tank, you'll know it; when you have a good one, you'll know it." That was me with DKs early on in their existence, Monks early on as well. It was so awesome to get a whisper at the end of a Heroic that said "Best [class] tank I've ever had, props." So there it is :)

Preach, as a long-time fan of your work, I'm warning you now: You're gonna have a bad time. You didn't pick a class that inspires you, one that grabs you by the balls when you first play it. You picked the "least bad" option. Several months in (if it takes that long), you're going to to find yourself bored with your class, and you'll start looking around the raid and wondering if you made the wrong decision. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the mage. But have the guts to go with the thing that moves you, instead of the safe choice.

I'm really enjoying the new mage specs, having mained one since Cata I've always enjoyed Fire. The only thing I really REALLY dislike as a mage (especially for the more mobile Fire spec) is Rune of Power, I've hated that spell since it's implementation and it's always been frustrating how it's consistently been the best choice out of every talent in it's tier.

Lol, I don't know much about raiding dude, I'm like the second to last person you would want to ask if you want to go hardcore raiding. If you just want like normal and heroic and stuff, pretty much any server is fine - just make sure you join a dedicated guild. From what I hear, for alliance Sargeras and Stormrage are supposed to be pretty good.

Great video and looking back at my process ahead of Legion it's by and large very similar: - Which roles do I prefer, which ones do I try to avoid as much as possible? - Do I want to play a class that fits multiple roles and if so how many? - Which classes/specs do appeal from a gameplay, aesthetics (artifacts) and class fantasy perspective? - Which class/role are most needed in my guild? 1) Healer >>>>>>Ranged>>Melee>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Tank 2) Yeah but having the changes in Legion in mind I would probably try to spec out all of the roles the class brings to the table, in order to keep myself in check and not burn out trying to rush everything in parallel I would prefer a class that fits 2 roles preferably without tanking being one of them 3) I love holy spell animations (played Holy Paladin for my most die hard time), however which dress to wear is not really the first thing I think of in the morning, really dig the class fantasy changes they made to shamans (boy how great do the elemental shaman effects sound and look) 4) As in most guilds tanks and to a lesser extend healer are highly asked for, no one needs additional melees Following this approach I was able to narrow it down to priest and shaman. From a pure healing perspective I tend to prefer priest. Holy improvements being noticeable and I am in the camp that loves the changes they did to Disc - only concern being that the Disc concept just might not be there yet to be really valid to be a valid choice in higher level Mythic dungeons and Holy being too much of an jack of all trades that gets pushed to the background in raids in comparison to the more specialized healer specs. So basically 3 weeks left for me to decide in between priest and shaman - in worst case I will toss a coin :)

Yeah. Earlier in the year when I joined my current guild there were NO melees whatsoever in there. I was the first one to join and as a warrior it was more than easy. Now, as time went on we lived through some drama, a failed guild merge and lacking players for mythic. I became an offier in that guild and together with a lot of new and awesome people I decided I'd reroll mage. One, for the good of the raid of course as our hunters just want to reroll and two of them chose melee classes. Two, I tested mages together with boomkins on the Beta after I maxed my warrior there and it was just so much fun. Every mage spec has its problems but the extreme viability of the class and their playstyle are just such a big factor for me to reroll. I'm happy I am going to reroll a mage :)

Orc Mage master race. underrepresented combo with solid racial, great casting animations, and badass transmog (kirin tor T8 with horde T9 helm and brutal glad shoulders). PORTALS! period. Mage is the one class that i really feel like quick single target/cleave/aoe decisions have a real impact. And seriously, shimmer + displacement + ice floes/endless instant crit pyros are infinitely satisfying and moving out of fire without having to stop casting is amazing. and free food. I was almost goign hunter/dk but always come back to arcane/fire

Honestly I'm pretty close to dropping Shaman as my main for the same reason as you. I want to make my main look cool, and every shaman-available Horde race has a major problem. Male Orcs have such a hunch that you can't see their chestpiece, Trolls lose their boots and the male's tusks clip through everything, Tauren's horns clip through everything, their heads are gigantic, and their backs clip through everything, Goblins are so outdated they just look terrible and they're too short, Male pandas are too fat, and Fem pandas have weird casting animations and their heads look weird in helmets, and both lose their boots. The only Shaman class I don't have a problem with the appearance of is Female Orcs, but their voices are super annoying so I couldn't stand a single encounter as one. If I end up enjoying my Demon Hunter once I finally get a chance to play one I'm probably going to go with it.

If it was just the error messages I would be fine with it, it's the yelling and grunting during combat that bugs me so much with female orcs. I can't really describe why it's bad but it is really bad, I could never stand listening to it for an extended period of time every time I go melee.

From someone who's been a crazy altoholic for 3 years and finally in late mist found my main I can say that this method works pretty well for finding your main. Instead of thinking "What do I like?" Think "What do I not like?" That way you start to eliminate classes and specs pretty swiftly. What finally did it for me though was realizing I needed to mix my favorite race with my favorite class. I'd always been playing a class I liked, but at the same time I didn't particularly love the race I was playing or visa versa. When I came to the realisation: Why don't you pick the class you love and mix it with the race you love, I was bound to a main. I am for one a more casual player who connects emotionally with my character/s a lot, and that emotional connection had to be just right.

He is not wrong i have been screaming from the rooftops to make frost the go to mage spec. But assuming numbers dont change much it will be fire 1st tier. It does a lot more dmg in comparison to the other specs. The play style is .. ok with fire but still my least fav of the 3

i was a hunter for 5 years, before that a mage. i stuck with my hunter through all of it cuz i loved the class and with what they changed i didn't like it anymore. i have every class maxed so i had every option to choose from. i am also in the beta for a few months now so i got to test everything to make my decision based around the artifact. the artifact really makes the gameplay for the new classes. after deciding between 3 classes, dh, boomkin, and holy pally. i ended up choosing holy pally. its really hard for people to pick a class right now because they dont have the artifact weapon which really makes a huge difference. if my opinion will help your decision, go with death knight. they are in a very good place

Only been a shaman since Cata but I have no intention of changing mains either, before Shaman for BC and LK I was a druid which I really enjoyed then at the end of LK they took Tree form away which angered me thus the change to Shaman havn't looked back since. Main spec for me is restoration as it was for the druid. Elemental is okay if its needed for some reason. Don't really care that much for melee.

What if I want a class where you should consistently change between specs to play at a high level ?? (that was my favorite bit w my rogue main in wod where sub was single target and combat sustained aoe and you constantly had to switch between them to fit the fight)->Is there a class like that in legion?

Hi Preach, My issue is and always has been my legacy character, my shaman, he was my first 60 and so they had done all the quests in vanilla, so when BC rolled around they were the obvious choice to do. End of BC I had more alts but again the shaman had done the lions share all reps, quests etc. And so on so I feel almost trapped on the shaman at this point. Obviously there is nothing stopping me playing other characters which I have and do, and a lot of the changes blizzard have made have made switching easier, but there will always be, the quests, the reps, the gear. My question is, and I know they are my hang ups so I don't know if you will have an answer but, is there a way to combat this? do you know anyone else who has dealt with it and swapped, how did they do it? Shaman is not a bad class, I have mostly healed in raids and i still enjoy them but I almost feel like I am missing out not giving the other classes I like a fair shout. Thanks

After reluctantly giving up on maining my mage due to playstyle reasons il be maining link in legion baring major changes to my plans or guild. The Wind Waker feel engaging and while I kiss old fistweaving i love healing with the reworked spec in a more traditional light.

I am actually leaving the Monk for Priest. Playing Monk would mean I would have to switch to tank sometime (I was MT1 our 9/12 Mythic clean), and I just can't stand what they did to the brewmaster or the tanking in general. I will still up my monk as a crafting alt, and for the sheer background of the class, however I can't wait to surrender to madness.

No one is "shitting" on the rogue, its his opinion, and he's entitles too it. His main in WoD was a rogue, and he hates what they've done too it, so therefore, why would he play something for a whole expansion, if he's going to dread logging in? You enjoy playing the class, Perfect....own it. Make people know the fury that is the rogue. But like he said, he wants a challenge, and its not there for him with that class. If you made videos for people to enjoy, Im guessing you'd have chosen the rogue as your Top pick for Legion, but he is insanely fair in his discussions, and doesn't want to lie to people, to appease his audience. He wants to put out pure, honest content, for people to make up their own minds. He's not trying to choose a class for you, he's doing it sole cause its his $15 a month, and wants that money to be spent on what he enjoys. Don't nock his decision. He is a very respectable player, that isn't going to BS anyone, cause its what "they want to hear", which gives his content more credibility, if you ask me. So just take that into consideration

I'm fairly certain he did mention his concerns with the play of it when he made the first look videos for legion alpha. Basically in losing the original shadow dance mechanic sub has lost its 'moment of glory' and was instead replaced with a very repetitive rotation without any significant breaks and no options to increase complexity or enough options to alter the general play through the talents. He also felt Sub, as well as all rogue specs, had a very lacking talent system as they do very little to improve upon the skeleton base of the rogues play Personally I would have to say rogues are a far cry from a lot of other classes in legion, it's clear far less work was put into them than other classes. This doesn't mean anyone is 'shitting on' them, it just means that if i compare it against other things, it's come up lacking.

I am very happy you talked about choosing which class/spec works for you on your own level. The fact you didn't want to play a class cause of animations of a race seems silly....but you will be playing it for many hours each week. Go with something that will make you smile! I have chosen to pick BM hunter because of how easy it is. I have a few chronic issues that requires me to take medication that really slows down my timing. My guild raids mythic and having a challenging spec along with mythic would mean I may not be able to play. But with a simple class like a hunter, I can focus just on the bosses without worrying about missing something important. I am very excited about Legion, and love your videos!

Seems like it's time to remove race restrictions for the old races.. Someone not wanting to play a class because race choice is problematic I think.. The races have been around now to have cross race classes.. I don't see it a stretch for a Blood elf orphan raised by Orcs as a Shaman etc.

I love the thought process that you put into choosing your spec, and laughed out loud at the fact that you don't want to play a troll because of the melee animations, that is just so funny to me. But it also pointed out why I will be maining my Druid. I am an altoholic, so I LOVE to change around my specs/class, so having the ability to do WHATEVER role that I want to now gives me more drive to focus on my one character, and make it a beast (pun intentional) is fantastic in thought to me. I look forward to the challenge that keeping 4 specs up to date, as well as working a job, and attending my senior year of college, will grant me, because I will feel much more accomplished when we all reach that end game! I can't understand why 'max 2 specs' requirement. Who the fukc makes you manage all four specs as druid?? Why don't u discard mage at once, doen't it have only dps specs? Didn't u say u have to have at least 2 roles? Your points are so counter-logical. You claim that in cutting edge pve you have to choose the best spec and look only at stats because those 3% will matter, but at the same time you discard shaman because you don't like racial combos.

Preach is the king of counter-logic. Look at ranged dps comparison. BM hunter is lowest cause its so "dumb" according to preach, then elemental is nr 1? Oo elemental is stupidly easy just as much as BM is.

The point was actually "max 2 roles," not at least. He won't main something like druid or monk because he doesn't want to manage all three roles. And lol at the guy saying elemental is as simple as the new BM. They are objectively different in complexity - and that's okay. Blizzard might want less experienced players to have an easy spec. Welcome to team Mage! When I finally went Mage in MoP I didn't look back. I get so much enjoyment from Frost. I haven't played much in WoD but having beta tested the Mage and DH I thoroughly enjoyed all three specs for the Mage with the changes, and I've never been interested in healing or tanking all that much. Perfect choice for myself. Grats!

Was a bit nervous at the start when you started eliminating classes quickly and thought people would get the wrong idea. But the final minute of the vid where you explained the process, and asked people to apply their own similar thinking for picking their own, rather than telling people what to play, really came out strong. Do you want to relearn how to heal? Shaman. Do you want to alternate between Ranged and melee? Shaman. Want to only do ranged? Mage. Want to melee and sometimes tank? DK.

What tier of content are you aiming for? If you're more for casual raiding then not healing as a shaman should be fine. Honestly though, you may want to try healing again at some point in legion. The resto shaman has a surprisingly nice toolkit depending on the situation. Assuming some of the tuning issues have been sorted.

Volrag I really want to shoot back up to Heroic raiding (or normal as the old days), I dropped down in tiers to take a break but want to get back into it and maybe go for Mythic if I can. XD I am not against picking up healing again, but Idk if I would enjoy it like i used too anymore. :/

Okay, in yours and others opinions should I try Shaman again? I've tried to play Shaman every expansion since vanilla but it was just never enjoyable to me, making it one of two classes that I've never played past level 70 (the other is priest but I personally dislike healing specs) and I've just never quite found it enjoyable. However since patch 7.0 I've yet to play it again and was wondering what others are thinking about the shaman.

After debating between hunter, warlock and Mage for about 3 months, and finally getting the feel for the three from PTR/ the updates finally going live, I decided to play Mage. Funnily enough, it had come down to Mage or Priest (Shadow) as my main in Legion aswell. I couldn't decide, both classes are super fun. It's nice to have another perspective on this and helping me decide but when it comes down to it.. FIRE MAGE, YESSSS. I hoped & tried with every new raid tier throughout WoD to make fire mage work, but damn frost and arcane always trumped, now I can just go fire mage and play it through Legion. I joined in TBC and here has been my main pathway: TBC: Shaman WOTLK: Shaman CATA: Paladin MoP: Paladin WoD: Warrior Legion: Rogue Outlaw in particular and going all passive talent points makes it so RNG-based and that is super fun and exciting for me.

My choices were between Death Knight and Demon Hunter since both have good dps with rotations that won't distract me from boss fights that have a bit of self healing to make up for minor mistakes that cause me to take too much damage, but after deciding to level up a Demon Hunter on the beta instead of waiting to avoid spoilers, I decided on the Demon Hunter. Its so much more fun to play, and being able to double jump, run faster with mastery, and glide is just too good to pass up since it makes navigating the maps so much better. It also kind of rewards my twitchy play style, which is a huge bonus as well. Normally while doing quests I am jumping and running around the mobs like an idiot just out of boredom, but now doing that is something you need to do a bit of so you can collect soul fragments for self healing and more fury.

I've been leaning toward Frost/Unholy DK, but I also have a resto druid and assassination rogue I'm pretty fond of, with this latest patch. Even after the suggestions in this video, I'm having a hard time deciding. Frost and Unholy (mainly frost) are the most fun for me... but- I think a lot of people will be going DK, which means it will likely be easier to get a raid slot if I'm a rogue or cat DPS. People like to diversify, even if it means bringing in something like a rogue which basically brings nothing (in terms of utility) to the raid. I like healing, and resto has been my favorite for a while now. However, like the DK, I think it will be a very popular choice. The frost DK artifact interests me the most out of every other in the expansion, speaking strictly in terms of lore. Assassin rogue (latest patch version) just makes sense to me, and I picked it up perfectly right out of the gate. Not sure why I'm sharing. I guess just to point out some different ways of looking at things. Still no fucking clue what I'm going to main. I've never had this many max level alts before (one for every class but monk, hunter, and shaman), and never had to face this question before.

Need help, im planing to play Horde in Legion but atm im on Ravencrest(eu) which is mainly an alliance server. So im wondering is it better to lvl as Alliance to 110 and then switch or will Horde have alot of different quest chains which wont cross with alliance, and it would be better to play Horde as i wont have as mutch competition on mobs etc.

In your Basic Vid you talked about classes having things that only they can do. Since i have no idea about what classes do nowadays, i'd like some info about that. I played in the times of Ragnaros and Alakir in a guild that did Server firsts. I want to come back again and battle for that. What is most important to me now is finding a new guild once i get back from my job overseas. What are the classes that will be needed in Mythics? What classes tend to have oversaturation in those guilds?

I picked wind walker monk. My thought process was a bit different however. My guild currently has a DK, Pally with core tank spots as well as a Demon Hunter and Druid who are second spec tanking through Mythic and they would not choose me to go brew master as i have never tanked. So, I have no problem pretending the tanking specs do not exist. Wind walker having similar feel as you have with shadow priest (it being the most fun spec in the game) makes it very easy to make my choice. Mist weaver is my favorite healing spec and usually healers are dropped thru the expansion so having to switch would be no issue as well as most likely not necessary. This video further strengthened my decision on WW Monk, thanks Preach.

I was planning on going enhancement shaman but I'm not sure I will like the melee playstyle in raids. It seems so hectic and a lot harder. What's your opinion on melees in raids?

Hey I am kinda stuck between my Warrior and maining a SPriest (offspec Disc because it looka fun.. have to play it a little though).. dont know if maining one character is the way to go because they both fill different niches... Warrior being a Tank/DPS and I low playing pvp with him and Priest with RDPS/Heal seems very appealing after all the praise it gets... at first I wanted to main a Paladin but the new Ret really turned me off :D Maybe I should play both of them? But I am not 100% sure..these decisions are always hard for me and I dont want to look at another class in the middle of the expansion and be like "hmm.. the grass looks greener over there" What do you guys think? Is maining Warrior/Priest a good idea?

I love this series. Following rules. What kind of gamer am I? Causal PVP, normal/heroic raids, and lots of solo and professions. What do I find fun? I love range dps/melee dps, and healing. I hate tanking though. What specs did I find fun preppatch melee and range? Well Shadow, Enhancement, Outlaw, both DK specs. Which healing did I like? Holy, Restro shaman, restro druid. Given guild considerations what should it be well there were a lot of shamans in my main guild so I choose a Priest. Shadow was fun, didn't mind Disc for 3rd spec, and loved holy. Then like a lot of things guild died. Now scrambling, but found another guild that fit me. Now Shaman is open as not as many. Never really did much melee. New challenge plus trying a different heal! So Enhancement shaman for leveling, with restro for alt. Only 2 classes I liked all 3 specs were shaman, and priest. I feel like I made the right choice. Plan on raising level on all 3. Good times. How did you guys come to your decisions?

I was stuck beteeen shaman , focusing on ele, and mage and I chose the former because I worry that having to keep up to date on AP will smean I'll have to play so much more than anyone else, and I just dont have the time for that

Way to go Preach :D Glad you choose the Mage as your Main for Legion as well. After playing almost all the time a Melee or Tank in WoW History I´ve changed to a Mage while WoD and I couldn´t be happier with a Class ever again. It was a though challenge going into Range DPS but it feels after adapting all those changes I couldn´t go into Mythic raiding with any other classes again , it just feels right. So much ways to handle certain mechanics , so much survivebility , so many "special snowflake" moments and a shitton of DPS. And finally a reliable Fire Single Target specc without having insane Crit value (Started playing fire again in Mythic after hitting around 45 % Crit from Offgear). And tbh I´m glad that there´s no PoF crazyness going on as well at this point anymore , even it was fun starting Archi Mythic with like 700k dps Burst it´s not how this Specc should work. It´s funny though that Arcane feels like a Melee specc atm because of the insane Arcane Explosion value in AoE fights x´D I dislike frost a bit after testing all 3 speccs in Beta for a good amount of time but 2 value Speccs are perfectly fine to cope with almost all Mythic Mechanics while Raiding.
