well i suppose it depends what you mean by "safe". if you mean that one of them leads to strong addiction, which is almost unshakable once you got there and will ruin your life and most likely tear your family apart, alcohol is the way to go. if you mean a "mellow recreational drug" that mostly just makes people chill a bit, but then every now and then it just randomly blows out a fuse and makes you insane, probably pot is the choice. i know many people whos families got ruined by alcohol and i have three childhood friends that are still living in care-homes or with their parents as guardians, because smoking pot suddenly triggered heavy schizophrenia. its really sad to watch, all of it. that being said, im my opinion all drugs should be sold legally at the supermarket. just lay out all the possible consequences and people should be free to decide what to do with their lives. I know this is totally nuts, but i am sure the world would be a much safer and calmer place after a while. in addition, evolution always does its thing anyway...

Oh man. Stephen, as others have said here, did a great job of staying professional while you could still tell how much he was not enjoying dealing with Christie... Established place right off the start for the tone of the interview... the way he “welcomed” him onto the stage when he walked out, interrupted Christie with his book name Let Me Finish, refused bluntly but with politeness to socially drink with him, et cetera. By end did take a drink but was leaning back with that drawn mouth like I’ve never seen him before and then the flash and thunk of the book... When he doesn’t love or even like a guest you can generally tell but he keeps things a bit warmer even when debating or pressing points, for the vast majority of cases, but you could so tell he didn’t care a damn beyond holding his professional requirement here.

Sometimes, I amuse myself imagining how the phone call from President Obama to Christie went when the Governor put that nurse, who spent her vacation in Africa nursing Ebola patients, in a tent at the airport under armed guards. The brave woman was released immediately and driven home in a limousine. Remember that?

Sometimes Stephen Colbert, Seth Myers, Bill Maher, etc interview someone who I generally don’t agree with their political views. But you come away with a bit of respect for them as a person, and respect for those different opinions. This wasn’t one of those moments.
