@@fulf Probably a good idea. In the rust belt sometimes you try to remove the wheel cylinder you're replacing the brake line due to corrosion. If you're lucky you can crack the flare nut loose and spin the wheel cylinder off.

Tired Again , back in those early good old days most all vehicles not only had drum brakes on all 4 wheels, but were also stopped with a single circuit master cylinder as well. So during those good old days the brakes' hydraulics all HAD to be good to go so they could tend to last just as long as the new linings after leaving the shop.

I use Pronto brake cleaner 817201, non chlorinated, 14oz can $1.64 in 10 case quantity purchase. It has replaced my CRC brake cleaner, it is also the best carb/throtttle body cleaner I have ever found. Uses CO2 for propellant, Love the stuff. I have found it the best ever for also quicky cleaning small engine carbs. I am surprised that since that drum assembly is a top adjuster type (adjuster under the wheel cylinder) that you don't automatically replace the wheel cylinders. My shop was in Illinois for many years and although we don't use as much salt (year around) like they do in your area it has been my experience that the wheel cylinders fail 90% of the time not long after the brake job unless replaced.

@@michaelkrenzer3296 I have one of them as my 4 cyl 2002 Accord SE has rear drums. The 6 cylinder models had 4 wheel disc brakes. I have 119k miles on mine and the rear brakes are still original although I have gone through several sets of front pads and rotors. My mechanic uses factory Honda pads as he feels that aftermarket ceramic pads wear out the rotors too quickly. The car I owned before the Honda was a 1988 Toyota Camry which had front disc/rear drum brakes and that car could stop on a dime without locking up any wheels even without antilock brakes.

Drum brakes suck to work on. Having the proper brake tools is well worth the money for sure. Oddly enough, I purchased my first brake spring tool at a computer show about 30 years ago. This guy had odd non computer parts. My friend said here is the tool you need to do the brakes in your 66 Mustang. I think I paid a buck for it. I’ve since gotten better tools, but that bent piece of metal sure helped me years back. Still have it. Recently used it doing brakes on an 89 Jeep Wrangler. Thanks for sharing all the knowledge you do on KZbin.

Everyone keeps talking about the needle nose vise grips. I never had the tool doing backyard brake jobs, way back in the day. Funny thing is, I finally bought the tool and low and behold, I went back to the needle nose vise grips, so much easier to work with, I couldn't believe you were using them when the video started. They are so much easier than the brake tool, and the brake tool works well but, I like the vise grip better.
