They made the comics and cartoons at the same time they imported the original toys from Japan (Takara's Microchange and Diaclone lines). Marvel came up with the concept working with Hasbro (Through marvel's Sunbow, the production company that did the original cartoon). It was the top selling toy in 1984, the year it came out, because of the strong cartoon and to some degree the comic. Blatant advertising, yes. But all the Transformers media has always been TO SELL TOYS. Yeah, sometimes it sucks (Bay movies), sometimes its awesome (the current More Than Meets the Eye comic series).

+Leonardo Pizzolotto Obviously, by failing to, oh, I don't know...GIVE US OPTIMUS PRIME RIDING A FIRE-BREATHING TYRANNOSAURUS until the last leg of the movie. Grimlock isn't even a character. They could have had a plot where the Autobots discover Dinobot Island or something. They could have given Grimlock his canon personality of being a warrior first and Autobot second, giving us some extra conflict. Megatron upgraded into Galvatron, which in every other continuity means that Unicron is involved somehow--ALSO a much better damn plot, even if they saved the confrontation with Unicron in person for future movies, because Unicron is a damn good long-term threat. For all Lockdown talks about the creators, we don't actually get to see them either. (Fighting invading Quintessons would also have been a much better plot.)

I tried counting cause I remembered that, and I actually couldn’t. They go in and out of shots and can be interchangeable bad guys to beat up which makes them hard to count. There are a couple varieties: the Junkheap ones, which there are only three of, the two-headed guys that are purple, and the sentries which come in blue, white, black, and red. There could honestly be fifty, I lost track around forty and they were gone from the movie like a few moments after, but it does seem like an error/oversight they’d make.

What I thought of as the biggest sin in this movie is the fact that that large alien magnetic sucking weapon is destroyed after optimus fires three shots in it without even looking!! First of all, why then didn't he do that earlier and second: worst alien ship ever.

And can we please not forget the numerous times that one of the protagonists is holding on to a car which is being sucked or lifted in the air by the alien spaceship, where in the first shot from the side he is more than 20 meters in the air and in the next shot he lets go and lands as if he dropped from less then 2 meters. When he was hanging in the air I was all like: "Ow boy, looks like he is in quite a pickle, wonder how he can get out of this nasty situation, maybe one of the autobots will help...ow nevermind."

In the 2nd movie the government decided "hey we don't need you anymore" and followed by Megatron blowing a hole in his chest. Then in the 3rd movie the humans decide to "banish" them from Earth followed by the decepticons trying to blow them all up, later that movie they fought for earth sacrificing their own planet to save ours, and the thanks??? We make it to this movie and the government decides to kill them off 1 by 1, knowing that Earth would have been doomed if it weren't for the autobots. I don't blame him 1 bit. Drama queen?? He's gone through a bunch of crap, and he is at his breaking point
