See this guy... The guy explaining about how he used a soldiering gun to trigger the magnetic pick up and ECU? THIS is what a TRUE mechanic looks and thinks like. He uses methods that only SOME mechanics know. Methods that he learned from being around a shop. There are SO many tips and tricks you could only learn from being around cars and garages for YEARS, before the internet came around. Excellent video!

The reason the V16T looks so much like a slightly different Diablo is because it was actually Gandini's original intent for how the Diablo should look. When Chrysler bought Lamborghini, design was one of the departments that was affected, which lead to a dissatisfied Gandini going rogue and working on this project to see his design through.

I love both, but I think the Cizetta is slightly better looking. I do like the door cut lines on the Diablo more, but the V16T looks better otherwise imo.

Comments: At first, it was not my intention to make any comment on Canepa Cizeta video, but then my instinct push me to clarify some of what was being said in the relation to the “Cizeta prototype. As “the Cizeta reborn” and “ Re-engineered.” The Cizeta never “kick the bucket” and I don’t believe that prototype was or needed to be re-engineered! I assume, the work that has been done it should be label as “COSMETICALLY REVIVED.” Considering, that after 30+ years seating in a storage facility is nothing unusual to have some paint and “COSMETIC” deteriorations. Also, don’t forget that I Drove-Tested for about 58,000 miles, and besides driving, the many, many hours on the Dynamiter as well…not Cruising, but instead harsh driving. This was for the purpose to test if the 16-cylinder block and gearing, among other devices with most positive results! The 16 cylinder engine, Transaxle, Suspensions, Brakes, Exhaust system, Body style Gas tanks, Fuel pumps, wheel & tires, Interior & dashboard, and so on, all it seems to me that has not been RE-ENGINEERED! The technician Chris, explanation on what he did to make the engine running on all 16 cylinders is a little bit dubious for a professional like him and here is why! Cleaning the injector replacing all filters and spark plugs, oil service and general check it will be a regular maintains, but he also pointed out that he rebuild the distributors. That engine is equipped with electronic ECU and the distributor as nothing in there but a rotor and not moving parts! The gas-tank insulation blanket is also part of being deteriorated after 30+ years, and severe test -driving. The water pump leakage was because of many years of not running, and they claim that it took two months to find the seal when I do have plenty in stock? Instead, they should have followed my advice…I still being “THE FATHER” after all! Of this piece of art!!! Now, some illumination on our communications with Chris or Casper calls. The first call they inform me that they have a problem matching the “pearl color” to paint the rear bumper and other touch-ups. So I replay that I would send them the formula, which I did without hesitations, and apparently, the painter did a great job, very well done! Then, in sequence, ask for the instrument gauges, and then the water seal, which I do have in stock, but I told them to put me in touch with Giorgio Moroder, which they never did. I was willing to help them with technical and parts assistance since this prototype is my first love! Joys and plenty of satisfaction… Chris, also call attention to the engine backfire, but this again is caused by the length of time that the car is been sitting, and here is why. The BOSCH injection system needs to be pressurized in order to compose all cylinder firing, and in this case, the fuel loses pressure. To pressurize the system by doing a simple operation…turn the ignition key on & of for a few times until the pressure is build up. In addition to the backfire is that also the ignition spark system it calls “ lose-spark double system ” which indicates that in the same time generate twice the spark to feed two cylinders, but one of them is in a phase of an exhaust. So we call “ lost-spark “ and if some gasoline from the previous cylinder phase did not burn out completely may cause a premature fire in the exhaust. I do contest the Ferrari instruments. What happens to the originals? If there were some malfunctions I do have parts for it or a complete unit for the prototype. The rear bonnet scripts are been done so cheap by a laser cutting on ¼” of aluminum and attached with double tape. They had a good opportunity to do it professionally fashion by making in black letters in plastic foil or similar compound, and spray clear on top of it. The wheel caps are done without knowing the fact that these caps also have the functions to hold the wheel nut in case it comes loose. Also, it doesn’t match up to the great Cizeta styling. Thanks to Bruce Meyer, to put me, along with the Italian Group VIA Modena luxury motoring events. to see the prototype that sits in Rodeo Drive storage right below his car collection. Bearing in mind that for 30 + years I never had the opportunity to see my first love, and it was an emotional encounter that thrilled me very much! Casper emphasize that they spend 1000 hrs (one thousand) to do the “ COSMETIC IMPROVEMENTS “ this is the equal times that it take me to build two Cizeta cars from zero! But I do very much appreciate that Bruce Canepa recognized the quality of the workmanship and weigh against the Diablo! Grazie Signor Canepa!

The distributors may use electronic advance, but the base timing must still be set, and one can botch that up. Chris was explaining that he struggled the most with the ignition system more than likely because he did not have base numbers to work with, and the distributor on one bank had crossed wires, and was timed incorrectly. He mentioned not having spark at two cylinders and he chased the pick-up coil. Not sure if he misspoke, or if it was lost in translation during editing. Not having spark on some cylinders is a fault on the secondary side of the system. I.E. spark plugs, wires, or the distributor cap itself. That was the only erroneous part of his diagnosis. Outside of that, appears they did a fine job.

My question is, why did you hold the parts hostage when they called you? If you loved the car so much and knew they were doing a restoration then why did you try to force their hand and make them get in touch with Giorio in order for them to get the parts? Even if it wasn't Giorgio needing the restoration its not right to withhold parts from someone trying to resurrect a legendary machine.

Thanks for this video! It gives me a nice memory! At that time I was working at the Bugatti EB110 project, in Modena. And in Modena these cars were built. And we were looking at the Cizeta Moroder as a potential competitor. I remember mr.Claudio Zampolli the day he came at the Bugatti Company driving a red V16T to meet mr.Romano Artioli: great!

i have italian magazines with this very car on the cover from when i was a kid. Separately I've been a Giorgio Moroder music fan for years. I went to see this car at Canepa when it still had the prototype dash, and had to sit down after seeing this car in the flesh after 30 years.. one of the moments you can't forget as a gearhead. i came back to Canepa a few times to check on the progress, and caught a Giorgio Moroder concert in San Francisco recently.. it all came full circle.

My favorite book as a kid was called something like Future Classics. I'll never forget it. It was probably published in something like 1995. This and the Porsche 959 stood out to me more than any other in the book. I've always wanted to see one run and drive. This is probably as close as I'll ever get. Thank you for the video. It's great to see the old 16 cylinder that I had so lusted after actually moving.

Back in 1983 to 1990 these Great Designs were off the Chart Exotic and complicated. Bruce was excellent in Porsche Racing as I recall. Whale Tail 935 Slantnose Henry Heywood and ALL that amazing history. Highly Intelligent people are always with Bruce. A Big Success!

I got very excited seeing this car in car magazines when it was new. The Cizeta is what the Diablo should have looked like before Chrysler redesigned the car rounding the lines of the Diablo. I read in a magazine that the V16 engine is two Lamborghini Urraco engines mated together. This came out around the same time the MCA Centenaire came out. Thanks.

I remember seeing by photos of this beast in the UK in auto car and motor. It was at a time when I was waiting for the replacement for the Lamborghini Countach. Not sure where it went in the end but the front end of it definitely influenced the shape of the diabolo when it arrived.

I remember having seen this car at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show; I was so impressed by the double Ferrari V8 motor. Seemed so crazy for me that I put my finger in the exhaust pipes to make sure that the beast could be alive ! My dirty finger made me serene and proud of such an engineering.

Cizeta Moroder V16T is probably the most beautiful car design by Gandini. It looks much better than the Diablo. Lamborghini should have adopted Gandini's original design. It was way head of its time. We see some design cue appears on the new Aventador. The V16T is my all time favorite.

Wasn't sure what to think before finding out more about its development history. I prefer this Cizeta over the 'Diablo now; appearing slightly less rounded & with the doubled headlights- certain details in the design seem to suggest a special creation with possibly more than the expected 12 cylinders. Especially love the mechanic's description of its refined driving dynamics compared to similar supercars. It's a Sid Mead concept painting brought to life!

Please tell me how you arrive at the erroneous conclusion that Cizeta's are neither quality nor value. They are both. Porsche's are good quality - I've owned two high end models, so I'm very aware of that, yet the Cizeta's quality is good too. The only confusion is by yourself.

The man responsible for the design of this V16 engine was the famous ex-Lamborghini designer Oliviero Pedrazzi who also designed the amazing quad turbo V12 engine of the Bugatti EB110 with it's integrated gearbox /4WD system/limited slip center diff. That engine is redlined at 9700 RPM. At Lamborghini he designed the amazing conversion of the traditional front engine-rear drive V12 to the Miura transverse engine with integrated gearbox and differential in same engine block. They got the idea from the British Mini. You can see some of the the similarities of the Miura integrated powerplant in the EB110 engine package. Pedrazzi also designed the V8 for the Lamborghini Uracco. The V16 he designed for the Cizeta uses basically 2 Uracco V8 engines in one new block. The engine block has 2 modified Uracco crankshafts in tandem driving the output shaft in the center between them. This is the unique 'T' configuration and is referred to in the car badge ' V16T'. The engine used 4 modified Uracco V8 heads and therefore has 8 camshafts and 64 valves.

In 1988 the Lotus Esprit Turbo was Anniversary Edition. I owned one of 88 built. IT was Pearl White and I always felt that it could compete with he the Cizeta. Both cars were Top Of The Automotive Industry Technogy. At that time.

Yeah, and was faster than any car you probably have ever owned. When I sold it, I got $70K and a 1974 V12 Jaguar E Roadster in Trade. I also own the 1979 Lotus Esprit JPS Edition that the Factory gave to Mario Andretti. It too had the pitiful standard transmission you mentioned. So disappointing, eh?
